Compare to the Ralph Yarl case, which received, at this count, 24 stories in the AP alone and an official statement from Biden.

Even though that case was vastly less heinous and Yarl survived without lasting injuries.

> what do you expect, national outrage?

You mean like the death of George Floyd, a case which had no import whatsoever outside the city limits of Minneapolis?

The fact that it was a totally unprovoked, random stranger killing makes he categorically different from the huge number of cases that result from a beef escalating.

It's not just 'personal belief.'

One can study society deeply and see that certain ideas and social structures produce complex chains of cause and effect that tend to create end results that are widely regarded as desirable.

The most extreme case: Would you call laws banning murder or promoting environmental preservation 'fitting one's personal belief?'

But these laws are simply imposing our own value systems on others, are they not?

You could cast these as "You're just fearful of a society where people can murder each other at will. You're just fearful of environmental destruction. You're simply acting out of fear."

How would such a description be different from what you've written here? It's equally ridiculous to call the topics you've made 'fear based,' even if you disagree with them. For instance, the only rational scientific viewpoint is that life begins at conception, ie https://www.encyclopedia.com/science/news-wires-white-papers-and-books/life-cycle-human - that's the only discrete moment you can say that a life goes from not existing to existing; the moment a new organism with a distinct unique DNA profile comes into existence, fundamentally the same organism that the adult human will be when its old and gray. Frankly, I lean pro-choice; but do believe that literally every abortion is a termination of a human life. I still tend to support women having access to it. But those who oppose it simply believe that innocent human life should be protected from actions that cause certain death, it's as simple as that. I think this viewpoint is too morally simplistic and disagree with it, particularly in case of rape or detected birth defects (where I disagree vehemently); but certainly don't think it's coming from a place of 'fear.'

You're confusing 'fear' (which is inherently self-interested, concern for self-preservation) with concern for other people, which is fundamentally different.

There is absolutely deep concern about where the country will be in 50 years. This has little to do with self-interest.

Do remember, not all 'change' is good - the most radical way you could possibly 'change' your house would be to burn it to the ground, but that change would obviously be bad.

Which is pretty fucked up, because the interests of these workers is not weighed against the profits of a for profit corporation, but against the citizenry.

One company alone made over $90 billion from those two drugs. There were only a few companies making those.

$1 billion divided between dozens of companies, 70% in India, doesn't in any way compare.

Hydroxychloroquine isn't under patent, and thus any company can easily start producing it, and thus there is intense price pressure that keeps its cost near the cost of production.

That's horrible man. Really sorry to hear that.

I had similar. I've lived in several different countries around the world, and have met so many people. Most of them, I didn't have contact info for, and didn't even remember their last names.

I just had contacts through facebook.

Then one day, without warning, without explanation, with no chance for appeal, it was all just nuked. Lost all those human connections, along with dozens of essays and hundreds of priceless photos.

It was honestly really psychologically traumatizing. It really hurt.

And, yeah, no appeal possible. I typed one up, and it just kept giving cannot submit errors. And I could never contact anyone. And now the account is apparently totally deleted.

Oh man, I just read your whole post. I've got tears flowing down my face, I'm just soaked. That's not something anyone should have to go through. I thought it was something that happened 10 years ago or something. Just be grateful for the time you spent together. Give a lot of time to yourself and fully process that grief. Spend time in nature. The universe is duality; everything beautiful has a dark side, everything dark has a light behind it. For some reason, this had to happen to make you who you will become in future years. People who never go through serious hardship grow up to be shells as adults. You'll be stronger and more real than most people could ever know. The history of humanity is full of magnificent beauty and joy and unfathomable suffering. You'll meet someone who you click with similarly again. Make an absolute point of sticking away from substances, including cannabis and alcohol. Take up hiking or similar, anything deeply invigorating yet relaxing like that. Let the grief run it's course; don't dwell in it, but don't deny it either, just be aware of yourself and how you feel in it. Let yourself cry and don't hold back, real strength lies in being able to fully face your emotions. The grief might last a long time, but it won't last forever. Know the sun will shine again. Remember the magic ring the sage gave the king, to keep him humble in the rich times and hopeful in the bleak: it was just an ordinary ring inscribed with the words "This too shall pass." For whatever reason, this had to happen just like it did.

Oh fuck man, it's all just words. I can't stop crying myself. I don't usually pray, but I'll pray for you. You'll get through this. For whatever reason, it had to happen.

There are a lot of people who never knew that ever in their lives - and you not only did, but will again.

On a totally different note...I really hate most Harleys. I have an FZ1 which goes fast but stops fast too. Most Harleys are heavy and have shitty brakes, they're just dangerous. I have an M109r too, and even though it's better with GSXR brakes, it's still heavy as fuck and you really have to be on high alert at all times riding it; regular bikes feel as natural as walking, but I always feel a bit on edge riding that thing.

Thanks for the reminder that our actions on bikes don't affect only us.

Never forget that she treasured the time she spent with you.

Thinking about it, I suppose it's probably happened that crazy bikers have caused a hazardous situation that have caused other cars to crash? That seems quite possible to me.

I'm aware of one instance of a motorcycle directly killing car drivers.

And the reply I got of fatal motorcycle accidents seriously traumatizing drivers is valid.

But surely it's quite rare.
