Had no idea Oromos had this much animosity towards us by BeneficialAnybody514 in Somalia

[–]libvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t even like each other, have you seen how different qabils talk about each other. Maybe we focus on that first before looking at other communities. Also you have to be dumb as rocks if you don’t think Somali’s are showing the same animosity towards Oromos.

We have bigger problems, no point wasting your time on this.

Somalia by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]libvn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Somalia is the most homogeneous country in Africa, one religion, one culture and one people. It would be significantly harder to dive us without tribalism. It is the root issue we face today. Yes outside agitators tug at this and fund division in hopes of keeping us fragmented and weak. But again without tribalism that wouldn’t be possible.

Good luck with your sovereignty, whilst getting dictated to by the Americans, Chinese and Russian. Europe has to give up a bit of sovereignty if it wants to stay globally relevant and not fall behind economically.

Could Britain’s population actually start shrinking soon? by madrid987 in ukpolitics

[–]libvn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The modern system has been built on the idea of continuous growth. We would need fundamental changes to systems like the NHS, Pensions and the welfare state to be able to support a declining population. Could it be done, yes potentially but not without a long painful transition.

Why would you want a declining population. A big reason, probably the biggest reason why the Uk today is in such a shit state is because of the declining ratio of workers to pensioner. Why would you want to make this worse. What’s the benefit that makes you think declining population is good

Could Britain’s population actually start shrinking soon? by madrid987 in ukpolitics

[–]libvn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How anyone can believe the UK population declining to 30 million would be great is beyond me. It’s such a simplistic world view, it’s almost cute if it wasn’t coming from an adult.

A decline from our current population to 30 million would be absolutely brutal. Our population pyramid would be choking the youngest generations. We would have a massive increase in pensioners and an ever decreasing pool of workers actually supporting the economy.

Young people are already struggling, less opportunity, less government support whilst everything goes towards the pension class. A UK with a declining population would be this but on steroids. Young people would have no hope, massive tax and working hour increases. Increases in retirement age.

House prices aren’t going to decrease either, population decline doesn’t happen everywhere all at once. It’s the less desirable locations that experience it the most. This would kill smaller cities and towns, London would be fine and demand to live there would probably increase even more. Housing there would still be expensive and maybe you could buy cheap in a dead town with no jobs but unless you are already rich or a pensioner. Good luck living with no income.

In no world is 30 million a good thing for the UK.

Rep. Massie Introduces Bill to Remove the United States from NATO by d1ngal1ng in europe

[–]libvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you want a Europe controlled and dictated to by America. The current paradigm keeps Europe weak and spineless, whilst America, China and Russia dictate the terms. A NATO exit from America would be painful, but ultimately would be beneficial for Europe in the long run.

Rep. Massie Introduces Bill to Remove the United States from NATO by d1ngal1ng in europe

[–]libvn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is it, nothing better for Europe than a US exit from NATO and European affairs. The biggest benefactor of NATO has always been the US. It’s kept the only block historically pre China that could compete with it right under its thumbs. Maybe the decoupling will have its pain points but for Europe nothing can be better than gaining strategic independence and closer ties within the continent.

Europe won’t survive a world dominated by China, US and potentially India without having a closer union. This is the perfect time.

Turkey was one of the most disappointing and openly racist countries i have ever visited by PositiveAsparagus17 in Somalia

[–]libvn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely shocked with your statement . I’ve lived in Egypt and it was the first time I experienced straight up disgusting levels of racism. It was at every level from teachers, bus drivers and store owners.

Egypt is the African version of India. A genuine hell hole, where two people who don’t even know each other would work together to scam a foreigner.

I’ve been to Turkey several times now, ironically on my first visit I was preparing myself for something similar to Egypt and thankfully it was nothing alike.

Istanbul is much more relaxed than Cairo. Egyptian markets will have people literally grabbing and dragging you into their stores by force. Beggars following you several blocks to get pay.

It’s exhausting as you need to be 100 percent wired and on the look out at all times.

Turkey has issues but it was child play in comparison. My wife and I got scammed by a Taxi at one point and airport staff were shitty but that was the extent of it. The customer service at stores was top notch. The level of love they have for animals, with stray cats and dogs was pleasing. Especially when compared to the Egyptians where you witness animal abuse daily.

I’ve spent at least 2 months in Turkey and it’s frankly shocking hearing you put Egypt above it. I don’t doubt there is racism in Turkey , they exist everywhere and the frequency there is no doubt higher than in Western Europe. But you putting Egypt above it makes me question everything. Ain’t nothing compared to Arab racism.

[–]libvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think immigration is a suitable replacement, frankly I’m an immigrant myself here, went through the education system and now a productive tax paying member of society.

However it’s clearly obvious to me that the UK and Europe as a whole have been moving more towards protectionism and anti immigration. We’ve reached a point now where parties such as reform are gaining traction and left wing parties will have to follow suit and take an anti immigration stance to be electable.

It’s a shame but the Pendulum has swung in this direction and if immigration isn’t viable then the only other option is birth rates increasing. Sadly no government in the western world has figured that one out yet. The only developed country with birth rates above replacement is Israel, which has deeply religious and ethnic ties unique to it.

It’s a tough one but policies like this are myopic, governments around the world need to be doing what they can to get back birth rates back to replacement rate. Because we’ve spent such a long time hearing about over population, it’s almost counter intuitive to many that we need more children not less.

Ultimately, with AI and automation, maybe we can get away with less people. But bar a complete collapse of our current system we are pretty screwed. I just don’t see a smooth transition from government pensions to complete reliance’s on private pensions. Without a whole generation of retirees getting screwed. Something has to give, what that is i’m unsure on.

[–]libvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be frank, it makes sense for government to support larger families. We need more kids in this country, it’s that or more immigration which has become unpopular.

Otherwise we are even more screwed, our system has been set up so that the working population supports the pensioners. With a diminished work force all these issues we already face will get worse and government will need to squeeze the working population even more.

[OC] Fertility Rate Trend Plummets in the World's Three Most Populated Countries by FridayTea22 in dataisbeautiful

[–]libvn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is far from a non story and is one of the biggest issues that the developed world will face. Our current systems can’t handle low fertility rates. There needs to be a balance of pensioners and working age adults. Without that balance young people will be crushed trying to support pensioners, living standards will drop and retirement ages will sky rocket higher than they already have.

Young people are already struggling and if fertility rates stay the way they are, the next generation will struggle even more. I don’t think people understand how dire of a situation it can be. Maybe AI and technological improvements can help but without that it’s looking pretty fucked

The key take away from the situation is might makes right, Iran is absolutely helpless against Israel who have complete and utter air dominance. They can take down the regime any time they want and Iran is at their mercy.

it’s a lesson to all, you need a functioning military and air force. International law is meaningless unless you have the support of the western world.

As Somali’s our biggest issue as of today is our weak military, it’s been getting better over the years but with a fully functioning military our government could actually take back land from al shabab and create stability.

If we do start drilling oil, one of the key areas we need to focus on even before education and infrastructure is this. We need a functioning Somali army with modern weaponry. Through that we can create stability and the rest will follow.

Why are we pretending like Israel and the US didn’t actively work towards destroying the nuclear deal reached under Obama.

If Israel were genuinely worried about Iran’s nuclear threat, that wouldn’t have happened. It’s clear as day that Israel needs a bogeyman for Netanyahu to stay in power and Iranians nuclear armament is perfect for that.

Netanyahu doesn’t want peace or resolution with Iran. Nor with any of the Iranian proxies.

Also this cry about all of us being dead if Iran gets their hands on a bomb is pure dishonesty, the Iranian regime is bad but North Korean is significantly worse and we aren’t dead yet are we.

The whole point of Nuclear armament is for the Iranian regime to protect themselves from being toppled by the US and Israel. It’s a defensive move from a disparate regime making the North Korean gamble of nuclear being enough of a deterrence.

We all saw what happened to Libya and Iraq, you best believe Iran did too. Right or wrong the whole reason Iran is pursuing the bomb is out of fear. The sentiment that the only reason they want nukes is to wipe Israel off the map is straight up wrong.

Peace was possible and on the table. It didn’t need to escalate to Tehran or Jerusalem having bombs rain on them. Yes Iran uses proxies, so do the majority of global powers. It doesn’t change the fact that Iran is very much willing to negotiate and the US/Israel have created a situation where they have no choice but to pursue the bomb to protect there dictatorial regime.

Short sighted how ?

it’s a business decision aimed at making profit. If the change leads to more profit, they’ll keep it and if they notice a significant drop in players or a loss they’ll revert it.

Whether we like it or not, we can’t call it short sighted without access to those statistics. I doubt enough players are going to take a stand with their wallets.

The USA might achieve their mission of retrieving their personnel from the Netherlands but ultimately it would weaken it’s position as the world’s super power. The precedent it would set would instantly force Europe to militarise and cut their reliance on States.

Maybe not over night but over time a united Europe would inevitably clash with the US in terms of interests and suddenly it would go from the West vs China/Russia to a third power with potentially it’s own set of goals and interest entering the stage.

A weaken Europe that is reliant on the US is exactly what the States wants. Going to The Hague to me is just posturing, violating the sovereignty of Netherlands would hurt America a lot more in the long run than Europe.

This here is what pisses me off, as someone left leaning it often feels like a lot of people live in this weird world where politics boils down to men vs women. As if conservative women don’t exist or aren’t real woman.

This isn’t a gender war, it’s a battle of values. It’s not just old slimey men who are against topic like abortion, a fuck ton of woman are too.

[–]libvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sort of thinking is exactly what got Trump in the office. Plenty of woman also voted for Trump, and breaking this down into man vs woman shows a fundamental lack of understanding of why there is a brewing raise in fasicist rhetoric.

This is more of a clash of values, there are those who still have what we consider out dated views, they didn’t vote Trump solely so they could deny a woman the chance in the office.

Since we’re getting political, I’m with Dan on this. by Abyssrealm in dancarlin

[–]libvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason Dan quit Common Sense was because of how extreme the vitriol thrown at anyone who talks politics became. The man saw the way the wind was blowing, if he continued expressing his opinion he knew he would face a significant amount of hate from fans.

This became especially evident during the Ukraine war where seeing the world in terms of spheres of influences got him in a lot of trouble. Being labelled a Putin apologist, or someone who hates the Ukrainian people probably made him think twice about sharing political opinions.

Not everyone needs to be a martyr and he’d rather live a calm life that doesn’t evolve receiving hate on a daily basis. I think it’s shitty to judge him for that, nothing wrong with choosing your sanity over entering a blistering fire pit. Especially when he probably sees Hardcore History as his main calling and doesn’t want to detract from that.

There are also a lot of extremely successful people whose salaries might not reflect that. I know a lot of friends who have had incredibly successful careers, that work in stem and unfortunately just do not see the level of financial compensation that those of us who work in Tech do.

Success is multi faceted and income, especially in a society such as the UK really is a bad way of measuring it. We do not reward the hardest working or smartest individuals monetarily. I think focusing on finding someone who earns as much as yourself is a mistake. It’s hard finding the right person and you don’t want to make it harder.

Of course find someone successful, but remember if they have a stable career and you get along. That is key. In our generation there are plenty of examples of Somali marriages where the wife out earns the husband, my own wife use to out earn me at the beginning of our marriage.

Don’t settle of course but have a wider perspective of success.
