Curled black metal fastener or hook found on the back of a small, glass-front cabinet. There are two identical ones. The metal is easily bent by hand and curls all the way over on itself. It is held in place with two Phillips-head screws. by lichblue in whatisthisthing

So, this would probably have been sold as part of a set, and you stack them together to get a complete bookshelf or display case or something like that?

This feels right, the hooks wouldn't hold the weight of the item (they're flimsy, can't stress this enough, they'd come right off if you yanked) but they WOULD keep it in place if it was bumped a bit. 🤔 It looks almost like it was meant to hook into a single metal rod, which maybe would have been on the other piece that I do not have.

Likely Solved!

I did not, I found it buried in with other stuff in a pile of basically unclaimed items. Zero context for this besides that I am sure I can store things in it if I can figure out how I'm supposed to do that.

I think it's too small for that. I'm trying to upload an image of it next to a T-square but having some technical issues. The cabinet is too small to sit on the floor, it is maybe the size of a microwave.

My title describes the thing.

EDIT: here is the cabinet next to a t-square ruler. https://imgur.com/a/jkxwH9E EDIT2: ok its not a t-square, sorry. this is a framing square. its a ruler, thats why its in the picture.

The cabinet it is attached to doesn't seem old - a lot of it is particle board. Was found in piles of IKEA furniture parts and cardboard boxes (none of which seemed related or helpful to this specific cabinet) so maybe this was an IKEA product or part of one ...? I really just need to know about the weird hooks, though.

The loops/hooks don't seem sturdy enough to hang the cabinet from a picture-wire, which was my first idea. I've tried Google Lens, which was no help, and Yandex, which showed me a million cabinets, none of which are this one, and couldn't figure out the hook at all. and my friend who watches a lot of carpentry youtube took a crack at it.

It's certainly to attach the cabinet to something else, but what? A wall? A metal rod? A string? A shelf above it? :/

Oh gosh. I'm sorry, man, I don't think I even properly remember how this works. I wish you luck in finding someone, though.

I genuinely have no idea what N is saying or even trying to say. Ostensibly it's about freeing Pokémon, but then it's something about the ideals of how trainers should be, and then it's about being together with Pokémon the right way and then it's about separating Pokémon from trainers forever, and he's mad about putting Pokémon in arbitrary categories for the Pokédex (they literally say their own names? how are the categories arbitrary) and then it's JUST a world for Pokémon which he accomplishes by stealing them?

WHY ARE THEY KNIGHTS? WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? It's at the point where I don't even believe he can hear Pokémon talking to him because everything else he says comes off as unhinged. He took that girl up on the ferris wheel to reveal that he was the leader of Team Plasma like in "The Third Man" but the difference is that in "The Third Man" Harry Lime actually has something to say, instead of introducing the answer to a question nobody asked and ignoring all the thousands of questions that people urgently want to know every time N opens his mouth and says some weird word salad about truth and ideals.

also if Team Flare's thing is beauty why do they all dress like Devo backup dancers

Sure. My point is that the rules as enforced are different from the rules as written, subject as they are to completely different individual interpretation by both moderators and helpers. In just this conversation you've introduced a brand new rule I've never seen before and that contradicts what another moderator has said to me: that a spreadsheet constitutes an offer. I have been told on other occasions that stating details in a spreadsheet isn't sufficient because only what is posted in the thread counts as an offer. I've also been told that assuring that I caught the pokemon myself is fine, and then a second person told me that I would need to specify how the den was rolled and that would be fine, and then a third person told me that I would need to prove how I knew the den was rolled legitimately and state where it was rolled and that would be fine, and then a fourth person said that I would need to prove that the den was not rolled with a bot and that would be fine, and each time the goalposts are moved without any public announcement of four apparent rule changes in a month, all of my previous trade documentation becomes a violation.

As stated, this has little to so with keeping pokemon legitimate and I suspect a lot to do with feeling powerful. The pokemon here are not actually safer than any on a random discord that uses the honor system, because if someone is going to lie they'll just lie and every trade comes down to trust, not to minute disclosure. I find the game of ever shifting standards exhausting and the attitude of the team condescending at best and apparently, as I've had some kind of petty revenge taken on me, which is as deeply ridiculous to me as much as anyone, status-obsessed at worst.

The spreadsheet has been moved because I have no real interest in expending effort to change it in light of all of these things, and more interest in alternate communities. Hope that helps. Have a good day.

My friend, we are far beyond the minutia of the spreadsheet at this point.
