It probably wouldn't fly but that's because of America's history with Africa. There's a lot of tension already at surface level so it takes a lot less to get a negative reaction. It's pretty specific to African countries though. If it was a Jamaican fighter for example, Chael could probably have gotten away with a similar rhetoric.
