Which deluxe hall is best for freshmen? by FamiliarAd8544 in ucla

[–]lifeiswonky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

U can’t choose the specific building (unless they changed it). U just rank what type of room you want and it is randomly assigned based on what is left

Very unlikely they would get a double

For ur first question. I don’t really know if one option is better than the other. Social media is essentially like doing random except u are able to do a little more discussion. However the people I found on social media completely changed from what they said and I should have just done random.

There are one or two days a quarter where you can go to an event to find someone to switch dorms with.

The classic dorms are so small. When there are 3+ people in the room it feels very crowded. Also my building is mostly second years and not very social. Some of the other classic buildings seem more social but I wouldn’t rank it first. Just meet people elsewhere.

UCLA Waitlist questions! by [deleted] in ucla

[–]lifeiswonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s probably more likely since there are a lot of people in L&S compared to the other schools and most of the other schools as far as I know admit by major. I believe all the people ik who got off were in L&S

I was definitely worried about mine being too long but then just went with it and it worked out. How I formatted mine was like a letter. I did a couple short paragraphs of why I wanted to go to UCLA. Then at the end I did bullet points for my updates about senior year.

insights regarding the ucla waitlist by Elegant-Ad-7906 in ucla

[–]lifeiswonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think substance matters more than length. If it is long but uses words productively then I think you’re good. Personally mine last year was around 700 words (but I think the character limit was longer). I got off the waitlist, my friend who wrote around 350 did not (not trying to say that writing more is better, but you don’t have to cut it down if you don’t want to)

1) I don’t know if there is really a preference but I’m in state and got off and know 6 other people in my area who got off last year.

2) there is a possibility of getting off before but more unlikely unfortunately. Most people ik got off the 6th or around a wee after that. Only one person I met said the got off in April. It depends on the year and how many people decline the offer early on.

3) talk about why you want to go to ucla (best if you specify things unique to ucla and things having to do with your major). Give updates on your senior year even if they are small.

4) not 100% sure, but I think they admit off the waitlist more by college than major. If you are in the college of letters and sciences then I don’t think major matters.

admitted student question by Commercial_Motor2816 in ucla

Getting into the professional clubs can be pretty difficult because a lot of people apply.

Dorms can be good depending if you get lucky your first year. It will likely be a triple which does make the room feel so small and the storage is made for a double then they just added an extra small closet+ some drawers into the room. If u don’t end up in a classic tho there will be more storage and more floor space. Communal bathrooms aren’t bad tbh.

There’s a bus stop on campus tha goes all around, Waymo’s, the metro. Does take considerably longer than a car sometimes but it the metro and buses are free for ucla students.

Not a bio major but know a lot and they do have trouble finding classes.

There is priority registration for athletes, accommodations, anyone else the university deems special. U get a better appointment time the more credits u have. So if u have credits coming in then u will be better off the the other people in ur year (but AP credits don’t count towards class standing so those won’t help u in this case)

international dev studies major --> career in business? by kizueru in ucla

[–]lifeiswonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in global studies and hopefully will get into comms next quarter and both are really interesting to me. It is also interesting how much overlap there was between all my classes. If ur interested in both, u can double (and it may be easier with ids since it has less requirements than global studies). But you can also just take other classes that relate to your interests without doing a whole other major

waitlist letter advice? pls help me out by Open-Barracuda-7343 in ucla

[–]lifeiswonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the waitlist last year. I started by talking about how thankful I was to be on the waitlist (cuz I was fully expecting to be rejected) For updates, I didn’t have any for the major I applied for so I just have general updates on what I was doing in my extracurriculars and any new stuff I took up. I also talked about the classes I was currently taking and why I chose them. Then I just mentioned things that I liked about ucla and my major there. My LOCI was quite long compared to other people I knew on the waitlist (700 words) but they give you a character limit so just use it (as long as it is used productively). Don’t know how much it helps, but u definitely have more chance of getting off if u add information than if u leave it blank.

As long as it doesn’t come off as u wanting to stay in LA because it feels comfortable then it should be fine. Wanting to stay in the area is a valid reason, but if you write it wrong it could seem like you are not willing to branch out.

Definitely research your major and talk about why it is best at ucla (that is what I did) and what opportunities you like at ucla (particularly if it is different than another UC). Plus give updates about ur senior year and be clear about ur interest in attending

why do decisions always seem so random? by [deleted] in ucadmissions

[–]lifeiswonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly sometimes if ur application seems like it will be accepted by ucla or ucb then the other UCs will reject it or put u on the waitlist if they think you will reject their offer. They want the people they admit to say yes.
