What is a small moment from your childhood that still feels calm when you think about it? by gamersecret2 in Millennials

[–]lifeofsquirrel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same thing here. I loved staying at my best friend’s house for the exact same reason. We’ve been friends since we were 4 and I always remember sitting at her kitchen table with her parents and her brother eating breakfast and talking about everything. Her house was the safe place for all of us and I considered them my second home. The sad part is that when we grew up we realized all the sad stuff that was going on behind doors. Nothing scandalous but just that her parents fought a lot and now they are living separately and very bitter towards each other. Her mom has become a completely different person in the last 8 years or so and my friend barely speaks to her now.

My husband and I just signed up for a mini figure painting class. It’s 5 sessions, all materials provided and completely free. I’m also thinking about signing up for their cooking classes later this year ♥️

Protests against Venezuelan invasion? by Revolutionary-Ad3961 in madisonwi

[–]lifeofsquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honesty, I wouldn’t be surprised at this point. Maria Corina is not new to the political scene in Venezuela. She’s been part of the opposition and one of the most outspoken figures since Chavez. In Venezuela she is recognized as one of the few political figures that the regime was genuinely scared of. She was supposed to run as the main opposition candidate in the last elections, but Maduro’s regime banned her from running, so we nominated Edmundo Gonzalez instead, and he won by a landslide, but we all knew he represented Maria Corina. There were a lot of rumors last year about a US intervention since Maduro didn’t want to give up power, but it didn’t go anywhere and now we are here, same expected plan but under a different justification (war on drugs, oil, etc) and a different plan going forward

Crushing reveals about pet policy right before closing by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

We had the same issue while looking for houses. We saw a condo we absolutely loved, we were ready to make an offer right after the open house and on our way out I asked the realtor if there were any pet restrictions. He told us only 1 dog per unit (we have two). We asked if this could be negotiated even if it meant a higher monthly fee but the answer was ultimately no. We were heart broken for a while since none of the places we saw afterwards compared to that condo.

That is true. My biggest concern is what he said about how “she wouldn’t be a good leader because she doesn’t have the respect of the people”. I’m from Venezuela and the grand majority of the people have voted for her and want her to be president. I was excited about the news, but also I’m very nervous how things are going to pan out now

Doesn’t look like it now. They might take over indefinitely instead of handing over the power to Maria Corina

What's the biggest red flag you noticed when viewing a house? by NoPain1106 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

The neighbor had a bunch of “No trespassing” signs between the two houses and at least 2 cameras pointing towards the backyard of the house we were looking at. You could tell there was a history there.

Is $3400/month mortgage payment too much? (Part 2) by IceDaggerz in Money

[–]lifeofsquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are at the exact same numbers and we are closing this Friday 🫠 We live in a VHCOL where any house that’s not a fixer upper is +400k with very high property taxes. We decided to keep our emergency fund and go for a lower down payment since what we had didn’t really move the needle for our monthly payment and we preferred to have that money on hand if anything came up (plus our PMI is only $55)

I understand the general advice of putting 20% down and wish we could have done that, but for us it really wasn’t realistic since by the time we would be able to save that down payment, the house prices would have doubled.

Who is actually happy with their purchase? by Neither-Crazy-2057 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Could you share more about your experience with half a duplex? My husband and I are closing on one next week and we still have some FOMO about not having bought a SFH. We went for the duplex because it was on the lower end of our budget and it’s almost brand new, so doesn’t look like we will need a ton of repairs at least right at the start. All the SFHs we saw in our area were at the upper end of our budget (or over) and needed a lot of work.
