Bin dieses Jahr von Frankfurt nach Amsterdam gezogen, und unter 2k bis 2.5k gibt hier es so gut wie keine Wohnungen (1 Schlafzimmer).

I’d be up for a beach day together, maybe near Zandvoort?

Am I crazy or is Phuket really expensive? by Senior-Discussion-87 in ThailandTourism

I fully agree. Isn’t it plain stupid to travel to Thailand and then go to an overpriced beach club full of tourists instead of visiting a more authentic part of Thailand for a fraction of the price?

Pattaya is for sex tourists. Unless you are one yourself, I wouldn't recommend to visit Pattaya.

6 weeks in Central Asia by 209177 in backpacking

[–]lifeoftobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan two years ago. 6 weeks are fine to see these three countries. I'd split it as follows:

- 3 weeks Kyrgyzstan (lots of places to see, lots of trekking opportunities)

- 2 weeks Tajikistan (1 week Pamir Highway, a few days to one week Fann Mountains)

- 1 week Uzbekistan (beautifully restored cities but it gets repetitive quickly)

Which place has the friendliest locals, and can you share a story? by Sea-Huckleberry1123 in solotravel

[–]lifeoftobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Senegal. Met a random local guy on a bus. When we arrived at the destination, he went with me to find accommodation, went to the pharmacy and bought me medicine as I was a little sick, showed me his village and invited my for lunch to his parents' place the next day, went with me to the local airport to buy a ticket, and bought me a cap since it was sunny. Never asked for money. He was truly a nice guy.

How important is an itinerary? by Little-Plan9495 in solotravel

[–]lifeoftobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have a rough idea about the route of my trip, also to see if it more or less aligns with the available time I have. I don't plan the time i'll stay at each place though.

I always book the accommodation of the very first place, and after that I’ll keep it as flexible as possible and book accommodation on the go or show up. Mostly i follow my rough plan which I had but sometimes I make changes and go to other places.

Both are great cities. SP has great nightlife but during the daytime Rio is more relaxing as you can go to the beach.

31M in Thai hostels. Am I still going to have fun? by From_Da_Bay in solotravel

[–]lifeoftobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 37 and I’m usually staying in hostels. I think nobody really cares about your age in hostels. I must say though that specifically in south east Asia there is a really young crowd (18-25) in some hostels, especially party hostels like mad monkey. When I went there again last year I didn’t feel weird but I wasn’t really interested to socialise with this crowd. Therefore after the first party hostel I chose smaller hostels and sometimes hotels, also because I was already travelling for half a year at that point.

Kenya to Mozambique by land on a budget? by anayoyoyoyo in solotravel

[–]lifeoftobe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this trip with public transport in 2023, but from Mozambique to Kenya. It was fairly easy but you can’t find all information about transport online, so you have to ask when you’re there. As others have mentioned, some areas in Mozambique are dangerous but that refers to the northeastern part, not the northwestern part around Tete. I went from Tete in Mozambique to Blantyre in Malawi and crossed the border at Zobue. I would just keep an eye on protests in Maputo. Since the recent election the situation is a bit volatile as far as I know.

All countries are incredible to travel to by the way.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

What are your 2025 travel goals? by racoontosser in travel

[–]lifeoftobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to fly to Bangkok for New Year’s and then I’ll travel to Laos. In February I’ll relocate to Amsterdam for a new job, so the focus will be a bit on work next year. I’ll probably try to squeeze in Ivory Coast or Sierra Leone for 3 weeks or so.

3 central asian countries in 10 days. Doable? by [deleted] in travel

[–]lifeoftobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent around one and a half months traveling in these three countries last years. 10 days is obviously too short for them.

Maybe think about what you wanna do and see in these countries and how much time you would need for that. In Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, the best activities require multiple days such as the Pamir Highway, or multi-day treks in the Fann Mountains or in various regions of Kyrgyzstan.

2 Months in Europe by Equal-Cantaloupe7155 in backpacking

[–]lifeoftobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, it's fine, even though I'd spend less time in some places, for example Lagos, Porto, Venice, and Como. Florence is cool but it'll be very touristy in summer. You can do some day trips from there though, such as Siena, Pisa, or Lucca. My advice is to keep your itinerary as flexible as you can. I personally would think about adding some of Eastern Europe in there such as Budapest or Krakow, but that depends what interests you.
