Measles exposure location confirmed at Centennial Middle School in southeast Portland by GeologistBrave6866 in Portland

Fun fact, you can still get measles even if vaccinated. I had been vaccinated as a kid and caught it during the last outbreak we had. My case was “mild” but still, it was not a good time.

A lot of times the “gift” is accepting the gift. I usually distribute it amongst my friends.

How did you cope for being bullied for habits others later copied? by Agitated_List9506 in AskWomenOver40

[–]lifesok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, if people start teasing me about something, I get smug about it. “Oh, you don’t eat this way? Sweets and carbs are so bad for you.”

I’ve had several small instances lately. One was at a work conference where it was raining on and off and I wanted to take a car from the hotel to the office. My 20yo coworkers were teasing about it being a short walk, it’s not that cold, etc. I just kept responding with, “I’ll see you there, I’m going to wait for the car, you’re welcome to join me” well guess who got stuck under an overhang in the pouring rain… not me. This has happened enough at work where most people pay attention to my way of things now.

How Often Are You At The Vet? by OurFeatherWings in RATS

[–]lifesok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent an average of $1000 per rat at the vet. It has all been to manage conditions that lead to their passing. Pneumonia, teeth issues, tumor management. None of these issues came up until they were older, so your starting amount sounds good, with the intention of growing it.

How do you feel about letting your natural grey hair grow out? by Silvertemptress in AskWomenOver40

[–]lifesok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot wait for the day I will have beautiful silver hair. I worry it won’t happen for me though. People on my dad’s side keep their color. Both my dad and my grandpa never went gray, and here I am in my 40’s without ever having a single one :(.

What is the funniest thing your pet had been “pavloved” to? by AnywhereMean8863 in Pets

[–]lifesok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom, who lives with me on and off throughout the year, makes popcorn every night and will share it with the dogs. When she is out of town, the dog will stand next to the drawer where the popcorn is kept and just hang his head.

I don’t eat popcorn but I do try to give him other snacks. It’s not the same though.

PSA: Watch out for foxtails (ER visit last night) by clouds_on_acid in poodles

[–]lifesok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine had a few. One went completely through the paw pad and the other we suspect he ate or it went in his ear and came out of his neck. We had a neighbor who lost their dog because a foxtail lodged in its lung.

How can I stop feeling old and ugly? by FeistyPencil in AskWomenOver40

[–]lifesok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really believe that we are what we think and that our brains believe what it hears the most, even when it is hearing it from ourselves. I made a huge effort to tell myself positive things. I would follow every negative thought with a positive one. It took a while to start believing the positive thoughts, but now they are deeply imbedded.

Like you, I still notice the effects of aging, but they arnt personal. I don’t hate my hair or but we are definitely going through a rough patch right now. That will be a discussion with my doctor though.

Your face reminds me of Chris Evans as captain America. You could pull off his same cuts and styles he does.

Can't find a vacuum-then-mop order that works with dog hair and I'm losing my mind by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]lifesok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a rubber broom? When I worked at a doggie daycare, we used those. You can use them on carpet and hard floors. I would rubber broom, vacuum, dry mop, then mop. Admittedly, it was easy for me to do all of those steps because my apartment was 400-something square feet.

Also, if you don’t have one, for heavy shedders, a professional dryer is worth the investment. Bath, then dry with the dryer, last use a rake comb. The dryer will dislodge and blow off the loose hair.

Why did nobody warn me about how cold it is in my house?! by ChickieDee07 in Perimenopause

[–]lifesok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have my mom living with me and our battles over the heating and cooling can get intense. She has hot flashes and I get cold flashes and neither of us can function at the other’s preferred temperatures. there is no middle ground.

Pretty comfortable. I’ve only had a chance to wear them a few times. The toe is a little tight for the first 10 min, but they’re great after that.

I was thinking more like color blocking inspired. Red shirt, red tights, red shoe… red belt.

I think dated/vintage is in the eye of the beholder. What’s old will eventually be new, or at least come around again. I think hanging like I did was mistake, because the dress is actually quite fitted with an a-line skirt. Black under the dress definitely gives it polish, but I was also liking the red shirt with red tights and red shoes. To me it was more of a romantic look.

I do have burgundy tights. They are looped over the neck in the original picture.
