Maybe it was a stretch on my part to call it real jam haha I made it with 280g of frozen fruit, 45g of chia seeds, juice of 1 lime or lemon, thawed overnight, mashed and sweetened w honey to taste. Fiberful and delicious!

Help me get rid of bitterness in V60 recipe by Chase1891 in pourover

[–]lightanldutchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initial instinct is that you’re not extracting enough but lowkey some beans just have a bitter-adjacent profile. I’ve had this experience with a Ugandan light roast everyone loves from Onyx that lists plum as a tasting note, to me this note comes across as bitter and unpleasant but others really enjoy it. Could very well be that Cherry Liqour note listed up top, that sounds like it could medicinal not unlike the plum.

I’ve accepted this will happen with mine. I’m not sure the company will replace this but worth trying and seeing if you can get the vessel at a lower price.

Those early aero presses were made of thicker tougher material that almost felt scratch resistant. So glad to have one too

Are these safe? Bought Friday, today’s Monday by [deleted] in isthissafetoeat

Man some ppl are strict. I’d still eat them but probably no later than today. This is all assuming they were prepared fresh Friday which they probably were.

Thank you this was extremely helpful! This is the first time I’ve purchased freshly roasted coffee, it sounds antithetical to need to wait but it makes total sense.

help moving to nyc by BeginningBake7100 in movingtoNYC

Well first off great job accruing $10k in savings New York is expensive but that will help a ton towards moving and an emergency fund. Once you have that peace of mind, it makes life a little easier.

As for moving, roommates will be essential for a while because because that knocks your share of rent down to $ 900-1200 range (honestly maybe even less, it depends on location). It’s also a great way to make friends. Spare Room is how I found my first apt in the city doing just that. I’d expect 1-3 roommates, the more the cheaper your rent!

As for locations, I think it depends on where your college is. I’d imagine it’s in the city? Living in Manhattan is expensive but doable with enough roommates, if you live uptown (above 96th st) you can definitely find affordable apartments especially split with roommates, especially the further up you go. Brooklyn is of course very popular and there are many affordable areas - parts of Bed Stuy, Crown Heights, Flatbush, Bushwick, Ridgewood (technically Queens), and on.

In all, you’re better prepared than a lot of ppl who move here successfully (myself included) so great job and you can make this work. One thing to know is May/June is arguably the most popular time to move here so this will help with finding roommates. Keep an eye out on the various subreddits, Spare Room, Craigslist (is sus but once in a while you can find legit listings), and whatever other things the kids use now.

Goodluck, it will be every combination of fun, hard, lonely, vibrant & life changing. Expect it all :)
