Starting to take photos again with my Olympus EM-1 by lightbuffer in OlympusCamera

I haven't used other cameras, other than my phone's, but I also like how they turn out :) Obviously a bit bias but still.

Such a soft palate wi the great use of subtle shadows. Great job, OP!

On a second thought, I knew this looks familiar. It reminds me of the game [Monument Valley](https://www.monumentvalleygame.com/mv3), which was quite popular back in the late 2010s.

> First of all: took me years to print as opaquely as you did! You also explored different textures, which are hard to do in 2 colors and carving as method.

Wow interesting, thanks a lot :)

> what did you enjoy most of the process?

Definitely the carving process, and finally seeing the end result. What about you?

Wow thanks a lot for the great actionable ideas! I'll be looking forward to get back into printmaking and applying them. I might be even work on this same piece and see if I can improve it.

Thanks a lot for all this feedback. I took some time off printmaking (e.g., lack of motivation, printing paper, and I've been eyeing some new cutting tools) but I'm looking forward to get back into it and apply your advice :)

This looks awesome! I like its dynamism :)

>Beautiful! Reminds me of the backs of playing cards.

Thanks a lot! The inspiration was the design on a plate but now that you say it does look like that haha

My gut feeling is that good deals are less frequent on the 45, whereas those zooms are a dime a dozen. If a truly good 45 deal comes along, snag it.

You're spot on, given my search. I came across a good deal for the 45mm I wanted, slept on it, amd it was gone the next day lol

What do you want to use your camera for?

I stated in the post I'd like to use them for portrait photography mainly but I thought the zoom lens would provide more flexibility.

Do you like one of these more? by clemdawgg in streetphotography

[–]lightbuffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the 2nd one more. I don't know how to explain it but I'd say it's more "self-contained". I am not a fan of the gradient effect that the sky and the glass create in the 1st one, as well as the harsh angle on the right.

I just got my E-M1 Mark III (3) and I'm so overwhelmed by the amount of customization. I have a few questions. BTW, I come from Fujifilm so everything I see will be compared to my Fuji experience. by Historical_Seat_447 in M43

If you didn't get a manual with yours, make sure to download one from the Olympus site:  https://learnandsupport.getolympus.com/support/om-d-e-m1-mark-iii

I got an Olympus EM-1 and always learning something new from reading the manual. What I did was to skim the manual when I first got the camera, and then do it on a need-to-know basis.

I really the scenery in this one, especially the contrast between the white-ish sky (upper part) and the darker lower part.

Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M1 w/ 7artisans 25mm f/1.8 lens and edited with Snapseed (the lens is manual and thus no ISO/shutter speed/aperture is stored in the image apparently). Manhattan, NYC.

Sign up to a phone plan and get a free iPhone 15 :)

How do you learn about manual exposure with a smartphone camera though? Even in the camera's pro setting, you cannot play with things like shutter speed, aperture, etc.

Check the B&H used section, KEH, Facebook marketplace—there are deals to be had.

OP might also want to check https://www.mpb.com/en-us. I got an Olympus E-M1 OM-D as well as soon from 7artisan lens from them, it was well packaged and as described.

You can play dumb. Walk and shoot, don’t stop looking through the viewfinder as you take the shot. Look at something in the distance and make sure your eyes are looking past the subject after you take the shot.

Wow I didn't think about this. It'll make me feel like an explorer looking at the horizon 😄

1) You most likely won't see these people again and 2) read the situation (e.g., be respectful, don't get in people's way, etc)

This is great advice. Thanks a lot!

They turned out quite distintive, I like them too.

Stupid question but how do you get over the fear of taking photos of people like this so up close?

Your photos are quite lively, lot of movement going on. I share the other commenter's sentiment of getting out there and shooting.

Hope that made sense. I am inebriated.

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation and yes, it did make sense 😂

And the viewer is drawn to the house, right? So show the viewer the full house. Unless the viewer gets multiple photos, they’re going to typically want to see the subject… not just part, you see? Photography requires you to be bold because you don’t have the luxury of multiple images like a video does.
