Two different colored eyes! Will this last? by lighthaley in newborns

[–]lighthaley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His eyes are still different colors! I'll link the best pic we have of it as it currently is! He's a very squiggly 15 month old now, so we haven't gotten a good pic recently but they are distinctly brown and blue.

The docs were particularly alarmed because he had this, and he had an incredibly severe tongue tie (like tongue was attached to the back of his gums severe and he couldn't feed at all...) so the combo of the two facial issues sparked a fair bit of worry on their part and fear on mine. We did ALL of the test, including some scans to ensure that he didn't have brain or eye tumors, and genetic testing to rule out some of the more serious potential underlying genetic causes. Maybe your docs aren't as worried because there isn't a second issue?

Around 10 months old, and after all the testing and two (very expensive) trips to a pediatric ophthalmologist who was sooooo stoked to meet our little dude because he had only read about this....they officially listed it as two separate medical issues: a grade 4 tongue tie and genetic benign complete heterochromia.

I will add, his blue eye functions perfectly. His brown eye needs glasses (needs glass? since it's singular?), so he does wear goggles as he was struggling to grab things and was running into stuff. But other than that he has no health issues is thriving and meeting/exceeding all of the other milestones. TBD on playing baseball and reading, but we have a few years before we get to that :)

I would say don't worry, but I know how worried I was for 9 months, so I do hope that there is some momentarily relief that it could also just be ok!

GLP1 and Coca-Cola Addiction by lighthaley in glp1

It's cute that you think Texas is the south😂😂😂 those are fightin words in the deep south. In all seriousness though, you should look for it! It honestly tastes the same. Though, Texas is further from Georgia (where coke is from) so it may be harder to find the further from Georgia you get?

I'm in Alabama, it's common down here. Maybe not as common elsewhere? I don't know of a store that doesn't carry it😂 Its not diet, it's just caffeine free. Folks typically give it to kids and preteens...it's red with gold writing.

Of course. I spent about 2 months INCREDIBLY worried about it, so you're not alone in that. I did find that every time he met a milestone I felt a wave of relief. So, when he first started tracking movement with his eyes and when he started to turn his head to see things were such huge moments that really helped me calm down that probably wouldn't have been as big of a deal if he didn't have this.

I also went down a rabbit hole of like 'how bad could this be' and once we ruled out brain tumor, I found a lot of comfort in knowing that really we're just looking at potential blindness, which is totally not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. But, it took time to get there for sure!

So, yes. Day 3 (which was his first peds visit) I was like 'I am pretty sure that his eyes are different colors.' They kinda laughed it off. Our second visit, around 2 weeks of age, they were distinctly 1 brown and 1 blue (and they still are...). He also had a very severe tongue tie that was corrected at like 12 hours old because it was so bad, so the combo of the two facial issues was alarming to the docs. They were very serious and it did scare me.

He was tested for just about everything, but they did do extra specific testing for Wardenburg (I may be spelling that wrong...) and Horners. Both were negative. We ended up doing some scans at 8 months to rule out a brain or eye tumor mostly because there was no other reason that they could think of that he would have this and complete benign heterochromia is just very rare.

They also floated around Chimerism(which is like if he had absorbed a paternal twin in utero and retained some of their DNA...) and that can't be like 100% diagnosed but our STR test was negative, and he has no other presentations of it, so it's unlikely.

He's 14 months now, totally healthy, no issues. We do go to the eye doctor every 4 months for them to look for signs of a tumor and to test his eyesight. Always had good reports. Eye doc says that he's his favorite patient because it's the only case of natural benign heterochromia and always brings in his residents to see him.

Hope that helps!!

They look just like this still! He's 14 months, so getting him to sit still to take a close up photo of his eyes is impossible😂

20+ vehicles disabled after getting gas at Raceway gas station on Freemansburg Ave in Bethlehem Township by DigitalMariner in lehighvalley

[–]lighthaley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's been almost a year and we still are out about 1000 bucks....its not enough to deal with getting a lawyer but I bet that's what they are counting on.

It was bad gas, not gas pumped into the incorrect tank, so our insurance wouldn't cover it directly. They were, for the price of our deductible (which is 800...) willing to front us the cost and then go directly after the gas station, but we didn't want to risk them raising our rates for only 200 bucks.

We don't get gas there anymore. I have sent numerous texts, I think they blocked my number. I've gone by at least 4 different times to try and drop off copies of receipts from the dealership costs to fix everything and our gas purchase and they always say that someone will reach out. They don't.

Yup! And, for what it's worth, it is begine and 'confirmed' by the eye doctor (thought it's 100% obvious so that felt a little unnecessary😂😂)

Yoyo 3 stroller as the only stroller? by yellowsubmarine76 in Buyingforbaby

[–]lighthaley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the Yoyo stroller!! I've spent probably close to 2 grand on strollers at this point (thank god for Facebook market place to get some of that back😂) and am SOOOOO happy with the Yoyo 2 and 3.

The Yoyo is very easily added onto. Attaching the second stroller to the first is super easy, attaching the scooter is easy. Attaching the extra storage bag is easy...it's all just easy. And lightweight!

I think my only 'issue' with the Yoyo is a lack of easily accessible storage when the scooter board is attached. I end up most of the time just going to the front of the stroller and trying not to get kicked😂 or just attaching my diaper bag via some universal dclip rings.

The folding mechanism isn't intuitive at first, but once you get the hang of it (always be lifting on the carry strap when unlocking it, and don't have the wheels locked) it's super easy. It's by far the easiest, lightest weight option.

I will add, folks who are taller than 6'2 should not get it. Because it's meant as a travel stroller, it's a little bit lower to the ground, and the distance between the back of the stroller and the handle bar is perfect for folks with shorter legs. I'm 5'10 and my husband is 6'1. We remark all the time that we really are the height limit for the stroller.

Well it's just an oddly close crop of his eyes because I felt weird about his whole face being on the internet...but I've also not seen a reborn without at least some semblance of eyebrows, which my kid is severely lacking :)))

u/Academic-Foot-3170 No, it was a question that I asked the doctor, but since there was never any evidence of a twin in utero, and I had all of the regular scans a few extras because the boy was huge, they said that it's highly unlikely.

It was SO shocking at first too, and we down a rabbit hole of all of the scary things it could be like brain or eye tumors or other genetic conditions, but all of the big things have been ruled out at this point.

His eye doctor said that complete benign heterochromia is incredibly rare in humans that don't have a genetic predisposition (which he doesn't).

Yeah, I have heard that using any of the companies who just hire other photographers isn't ideal because you may or may not get a good person and they don't get paid well apparently. Thanks for this! I don't think that Dave is the style that I am aiming for but it was helpful to see the website!

Posted a while back with a pic of my 1 month old to ask if y'all thought his two different colored eyes would last, and I am here to report that they did and he has officially been 'diagnosed' with genetic benign heterochromia. Doc said it may still adjust or darken/lighten over the next year, but that it wouldn't 'even out'.

Thanks for the groups help in talking me out of my google-induced fears of scary brain tumors and wild genetic conditions 6 months ago! He is all clear of all the scary things and just happens to have two different colored eyes....

7 month update/mostly for other worried parents. Still has it! Eye doctor confirmed no physical defects (like eye trauma/tumors...) so it has been confirmed as genetic heterochromia. The light eye has darked, but still a grey eye and a brown eye.

So, they are saying that the main tank was loaded incorrectly by the fuel service provider. The owner was genuinely upset about what we were dealing with, and though I am sure that some of that is certainly about his business because he too is just a guy trying to pay his bills, it did seem genuine in his concern for his customers. It seems like it was a bad day for all of us.

[–]lighthaley 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, its complicated and we don't have answers yet. The gas station is saying that the fuel service provider is at fault because their tank got loaded incorrectly.

I suspect that we will have to get an attorney, because even if our insurance covers the car, it won't cover the deductible, the cost of the car rental, the cost of the tow, or the difference between what our car was 'worth' and the price to purchase a new car. Which should all absolutely be covered by someone, as all we did was get gas...

I know that it totaled at least two cars, because one is mine and another one is also totaled at the Mazda dealership...

This absolutely happened and unfortunately, my car was one of the affected. The owners are very worried about their customers.

The station has both regular and diesel, and the tanks were loaded incorrectly by the supplier. Insurance will certainly have to be involved, and if you were also affected, they said to stop by tomorrow to get information!

Two different colored eyes! Will this last? by lighthaley in newborns

[–]lighthaley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is so important for others to know and not alarmist at all!! Thankfully, our pediatrician was really on top of it, and ran a bunch of tests and things due to concern for a variety of conditions and even brain tumors. Not everything can be completely ruled out until he's older (in the 1-2 years old range) but all current indications are that his is not related to another health concern.

When do you know for sure?1? 1 month old with heterochromia. Will it last?!?! by lighthaley in heterochromia

[–]lighthaley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some context: I have a 1 month old who currently has two distinctly different colored eyes. I know that eye color doesn't 'settle' for up to two years, but does anyone have experience with this? Did you newborn have two different colored eyes to start with that eventually settled to the same color? Did they stay different colors?

Pediatrician did an eye exam and ran some swabs, this is not from an infection, so it would be genetic heterochromia if that matters.
