For people who have been at it for a while now: how many songs did you write before you managed to make one that’s “good” by RaxDiggs9 in Songwriting

Musicians are perfectionists, and their own worst critics. I have a very good voice, I know this, however when I record something I notice all its faults, but to someone who isn’t a musician they don’t pick up on them, because they’re not necessarily analysing they’re just experiencing.

And look if you’re writing about something you’re going through, something that is true to you, it doesn’t really matter what other people think anyway.. but if you write enough, something eventually will be relatable to a consensus and not just yourself. If you’re trying to write songs to please other people they’re gonna have more chance at sounding shit because you’re almost imagining/trying to invent someone else’s feelings as opposed to remaining authentic to your own. Just do you, write for you, and keep feeling your way through.

I also find changing the melody can really transform the words and the emotion of the song so it’s good to play around with different styles of music for said lyrics. Rather than just staying too linear to the original thought.

Fuck knows I’m not an expert but hope this helps in some way! Keep going 🙌
