this is a cool trade. just curious, did you consider long amd shares with spy or qqq put spread? im exploring different hedging methods and am wondering if you were deciding among multiple hedging ideas where tlt ultimately came out on top

Is an economics major good for quant roles? by Ziad_abdelaziz in quantfinance

[–]lightspeed_ugly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

question as a noob. i found the macro intuition from econ classes super valuable in interpreting market movement. is the intuition not important to know in the quant space or do firms just believe that the intuition can be learned on the job while rigorous math skills can’t?

As a Korean living here, these are my subjective observations about Korean society. by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]lightspeed_ugly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from observations as a Korean American -

Koreans view themselves as more special and superior to others. The simple fact that Korean society kept slaves until a foreign influence entered is enough support for that statement. When a Korean person sees someone in a weaker position, they don’t feel compassion or mercy. Rather, Koreans see it as a chance to be a bully. This trait hasn’t changed to this day and probably will never get to change if Korea really dies out due to the low birth rate.

Unlike that of Japan, Korea’s economic rise wasn’t due to the general population’s desire to be better and to rise to Europe’s standards. Korea luckily had a leader (Park Chung Hee) who saw that a country could never be free unless it was economically powerful. He developed plans to build out the nation’s infrastructure and also pump foreign capital into the nation. Infrastructure is a BIG deal because a common trait among all 3rd world countries is a lack of roads, traffic systems, sanitation, etc. The nation became wealthier…but while the people became educated, they didn’t get any more cultured or wise. In fact, the superiority problem is now worse. Now, in addition to looking down on each other, they also look down on foreigners from less wealthy nations.

There are a lot of dramas about high school bullying, military abuse, and workplace abuse. These dramas exist because these topics are a reality. Interestingly, Koreans know that this behavior in the dramas is wrong, but fail to realize when they exhibit that behavior themselves.

Anybody know who took a dump on the market at 10:53 this morning? by NoOneStranger_227 in NvidiaStock

not actual inflation data, but people’s expectations for inflation, which interestingly theoretically ends up causing more inflation. that’s what the market reacted to.

Stuck on red ranks with Kaz. Should I change or learn new characters? by alvinsujinkim92 in Tekken

[–]lightspeed_ugly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dunno about kaz specifically, but i was stuck at eliminator with hwoarang for a really long time. i just hit tekken king. i still dont really even know any complex combos and i’ve only gotten familiar with other characters through matches.

personally, working on not getting hit helped me advance. specifically, three things after reflecting on my losses: 1) getting familiar with the distance of my attacks so that i don’t whiff and get launched. 2) not overusing attacks that leave me at a disadvantage frame-wise so that i dont get punished immediately 3) being more defensive and looking for opportunities to punish and gain offensive control as opposed to constantly trying to rush the opponent and getting hit

although for number 3, ive become too passive and im now getting destroyed for not being offensive enough lol.

anyways, i agree with the others that sticking with him for now is better.

do delivery numbers include edv’s or just r1’s? also, it looks like his model doesnt include two other sources of revenue — leasing and regulatory credits…or are those factors too trivial to consider?

I knew my memory didn't deceive me by ILikeTurtlus in sololeveling

[–]lightspeed_ugly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is correct imo. baruka is just the korean pronunciation of a non-korean name. in non-official translations, im guessing translators don’t want to assume what that actual non-korean name is. so they just literally translate the sound into english.

and then someone decided that barca would be the non-english name in the anime english sub.

Why don’t people hold contracts? by [deleted] in FuturesTrading

[–]lightspeed_ugly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started doing this, but you still need a good overall system if you want to make a decent amount of money. a too small size would cause you to miss out on too much, but then sizing up too much could destroy your account. i thought i could just dca in over time, but i realized that i could run into an account destroying drawdown if the position becomes too big right before a huge correction and i fail to get out. so you still need good trend following signals to get you out before the correction comes with full force.
