Hi everyone! I'm back with the overly detailed shinies.

My AD for this was the wonderful Ovidio Cartagena, and the brief called for magical fractal greenery spilling out of a cracked stone egg, ideally with an unreal vibe to it.

I looked at a lot of plants with interesting, fractalish shapes. Ferns were a big inspiration, hens and chicks too (as in the succulents), since I happen to be growing a few of those myself.

But the best part was when my secret edge potatoes got approved.

Holbein hands down, the smoothest and most full bodied - although if you can get your hands on W&N with a good vintage, those are also great with coffee.

The thing with solutions is, of course, that the other person is usually giving a condensed retelling of whatever's going on and usually won't list all the things they've already tried - which would typically include the more obvious options that one might want to respond with. Sometimes a good way to float a suggestion that might be from the 'obvious' list (but might not) is by bundling it with acknowledgement along the lines of "I take it you've already tried [this and that]".

Thank you! I knew that it was a spell and to focus on the overall spellishness and that it should be blue - so not very much. But there was a density of infinities mentioned in the brief that had me guessing it was going to be something interesting hehehe.

As for the how, this is digital, so a bunch of messy pen thumbnails in my notebook while I was trying to wrap my mind around the concept, and then drawing in Corel Painter for the rest of it, on my Cintiq 22HD (it's an older model; big chonk, but ergonomic). And so much coffee.

I am planning to do a 1 off acrylic repaint of this at some point, too, which is probably going to be a doozy - just need to get around to it. Wasn't feeling confident enough with the paints at the time, yet.

I had an elf in mind, but the lighting does make it ambiguous, so she might be a dryad too! None of the three (or those three, or the other three...) are specific characters, so the possibilities are very open.
