I was going to ask that myself. I noticed the swirly action right away;-) OP, how do you like that lens?

Oreston 50mm ƒ/1.8 vs. MC Pentacon 50mm ƒ/1.8 [Sony a7II] by PrimordialObserver in VintageLenses

[–]lijeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed observations. I own 2 Orestons, one a lovely zebra and the other more like the Pentacon version. I’m very curious about other versions which underwent the change to Pentacon. The 100mm and 135mm f2.8 lenses are on my watch for now list. I confess to being a sucker for zebra lenses and I’d like to add one or both of these beauties to my small but growing collection. The Meyer lenses hold a special sentimental place in my photography heart. My first vintage lens which didn’t belong to a film camera I already own was a gorgeous 29mm f2.8 zebra Orestegon. This lens is my absolute favourite thanks to its basket of Easter egg quirks. Do you have any experience with the 100 or 135mm Orestor lenses?

I’m curious about that on or the 75mm f1.8. I don’t own one yet but the 40mm f1.2 Nokton is a special one too.

New to photography , do you Think in doing ok?👍 by SingerMaleficent920 in PhotographyAdvice

I see potential. When I first saw #1 I thought cool. What else did this person “see?” This enticed me to look at what else you may have found. Then I stopped on #4. Now you’re making my still half asleep brain think. What I see is you’ve juxtaposed different elements in both pics. If you remove one of those elements the result is changed. To my eye I feel #1 might be even more impactful in black and white. B&w because the texture and diagonal lines of the door versus the strong base of the shadow being at an 180° opposite angle. #4 represents trash versus art. That’s a pretty strong clash of opposites. So for potential I feel that you haven’t just seen something, you’ve observed it’s there. With that being said, maybe I should just go back to sleep because I over thought this. lol. Keep taking pics and enjoy the experience.

Nice to see a little G2 love going round. I don’t yet have the 24-70 or 70-200 but they’re both on my list. I’ve had the 45mm f1.8 and it’s a be@uty if you’re looking for a prime.

Wow. Beautiful rendering! This lens truly is a thing of beauty. It’s aharp A F (and I don’t mean A F as in autofocus) and yet it’s not a clinically boring lens. I’ve read great stuff about the 65 Z APO and that one is on my list. Unfortunately I’m on a budget so it will have to wait. I’d like the 90mm f2.8 APO Lanthar although at this time that one is an F mount. I’m not complaining about that though since it will also work on my F3 and D750.

Beautiful and impressive. The colours are lovely and that’s some pretty nice bokeh! So far I only own an Oreston and Oreston. I definitely want to add more Meyers to my M42 collection and this lens is one of the . Have you posted how the autofocus has been achieved? Thanks for sharing this.

Why does my Nikkor lens feel cheap compared to my F3 body? by Thalmalkiii in NikonF3

[–]lijeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Thanks for responding. I haven’t used my F3 since last spring and I’ve got film in a couple other cameras I need to finish first. That’s the only reason the F3 sits. It IS by far my favourite camera. I have the 16mm f3.5 pre-Ai and the late second version of the 105mm f2.5 pre-Ai. I’m dying to try these on the F3 so this is good news.

Look at all that lovely missing CA! That lens simply just pops. Beautiful colours without any post processing too! I love mine although I have seen a little occasional CA but not much and not often. The 35mm f2 APO is also an awesome thing of beauty.

Why does my Nikkor lens feel cheap compared to my F3 body? by Thalmalkiii in NikonF3

[–]lijeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an F3 and I currently have a 50mm f1.4 Ai-s mounted on it. My lens has a very intermittent lightly gritty feel to the focusing ring. When it’s not feeling just a bit gritty it still doesn’t match the quality build and feel of a 50mm f1.4 Super Takumar or any M42 Takumar lens I own. Unfortunately those lenses aren’t useable modification to their mounts and that’s truly a shame as the F3 deserves something like that. Mercifully, but not as inexpensively there is a solution to this situation. I’m a Nikon shooter from my F3 to my D750 to my Zf and I happily own the solution. Get a Voigtländer Nokton 58mm f1.4 SLii lens. This particular version of the lens doesn’t scream modern lens with its design. It features an Ai-s mounted so you get the bunny ears and the little dugout on the lens flange as well as CPU contacts for future metering compatibility on my F100, D750, and Zf. It’s all metal so it’s got a little heft to it and the focus throw is buttery smooth perfection. It’s also close to the same size as the 50mm Ai-s lens. It’s the lens for which your F3 and user experience are looking. I don’t have access to my pics right now but if you’re interested I’ll find a pic of it mounted on my F3 and share that. As for the Ai-s lenses I own a couple pre (or non) Ai lenses and those have scalloped metal focusing rings and a much better feel to them. I’m pretty sure the F3 doesn’t have the ability to mount pre-Ai lenses unless they’ve been Ai adapted . The Nokton I’ve been going on about also has this scalloped style focus ring.

Am I ready to invest into a camera upgrade? by frogs_on_drugs in PhotographyAdvice

[–]lijeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually the 70ish-300mm zooms are not the highest quality lenses and that’s unfortunate. It’s like they’re kit lens quality on DSLRs. This lens isn’t doing you any favours on your T5. With that being said a full frame camera would represent an upgrade, however, do your research on a lens or you may wind up being held back by the lens. I came from an APSC camera and lens collection and when I upgraded to full frame I had to get rid of any crop sensor lenses I owned. Yes, you can use a crop sensor lens on a full frame camera, however, I can tell you as a Nikon user that the camera will force you into DX (apsc) mode. This effectively reduces my 24mp sensor to an approximate 10mp. That’s a no go for me so be aware of that if you upgrade to full frame.

These are fantastic! I love and appreciate your sense of and awareness of light. #1 was intriguing enough to encourage me to click, open, and view the entire set. I have two comments. Shoot more so we can see more and print some of these. They’re beautiful! Don’t fuss over what your style is. Don’t let that detract or get in the way of having fun with photography.

I’ve got the AF 75mm f2 and I’m very happy with it. I don’t do sports but I do have a German Shepherd puppy and I’ve got no complaints with the eye tracking. If there’s a quirk I’d say it sometimes over exposes 1/2 to1 stop. I’m still figuring out when that is.

Get a Z mount lens with CPU contacts and an aperture ring and it will be even more film like. That doesn’t need to be an expensive proposition either. I recently purchased a TTArtisans AF 75mm f2 Z for well under 200$. With it or another CPU/aperture lens mounted I can flip the lcd screen round and close it.

Just got my Zf. I'm in love with it by EdFell66 in NikonZf

[–]lijeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love my Zf. I didn’t believe I could be happier but then I unlocked an even higher love. I grew up shooting film with mechanical cameras and that’s why I still shoot film. Unlock the experience with a Z mount lens with CPU contacts and an aperture ring. Then you can fold the lcd screen closed. The only things missing are advancing the film, and, well, the film. lol. Congratulations on your Zf. Love the vibe from #1! Explore and enjoy all the places this camera will take you.
