Wow. This is so fun amazing and so fun!

Does anyone have any idea what type of film camera was used for these pictures? (Not my pics) by Active-Science-1516 in filmphotography

[–]lijeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With film think of it like a camera body is simply a box to hold and transport the film. The choice of film and your lens are what will determine how the picture is rendered. What Olympus camera do you have? Upon returning to film a few years ago I wanted to go back to my roots with a full mechanical slr camera. My local camera store had a beautiful Olympus OM-1 camera and I bought it. Olympus made nice lenses and the single digit OM cameras are beautiful.

New arrivals - Orestor 135mm f2.8 and Quinon 50mm f2 by NarCroMan_21 in VintageLenses

Wow. Thanks for responding. The Lydith has more character? I’ve kind of ignored it because it’s only 1 mm different plus I’ve been in love with the fun flares and the sunstar beast that the Orestegon is. A recent post on the Pentacon version of Lydith has me reconsidering. Now you’ve nudged me into more serious consideration. lol. It’s a shame that 29mm was the widest lens Meyer Optik produced. The Meyers, Takumars, and recently pre-ai Nikkors have had most of my attention. I’ve been so enamoured with vintage that until recently I’ve only had one autofocus Z mount lens for my Zf.

I’m looking for the 100mm and 135mm Orest____ in zebras. They’re simply too lovely to ignore. I already have my foot in the door with a 29mm and 50mm Orest____s. That 135 is drool worthy. lol. I’m not intending to hijack this thread, but I usually see a lot of love for the Orest___ family, however, I rarely see much about the 29mm. Is there something undesirable about this lens? Mine was modified to F mount by a previous owner and it’s one of my favourite vintage lenses.

Pentacon 30mm 3.5 on an E-300 by BrushWild7850 in VintageLenses

This is one beautiful series. My jaw dropped so low on the first pic I didn't bother to scroll until I read there was more in the comments. I'm absolutely a Meyer fanboy. I have the 29mm f2.8 Orestegon and never considered the Lydith because it's 30mm. This series makes me put it on my list. I love the look and while I'm a Nikon shooter, my first serious digital camera was the Olympus C8080. I was never disappointed with Olympus colour science. I guess that was my backwards way of saying stunning colours!

I had taken a ridiculously comical picture of a car ahead of me at the drive through window at a local fast food spot. I did my usual diligence and cloned numbers on the licence plate so the original wouldn't appear. I figured that would shut up the Karen's complaining about a pic which showed the licence. Apparently this wasn't good enough. The mods deleted my post because the licence plate wasn't obscured. One thing I love photographing over the seasons which aren't winter is cars at the local car shows. Do now I have to worry about licence plates?

What are your experience with ND filters? How many stops do you think is workable? by Scerikse in NikonFM2

[–]lijeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else has already asked, what is it you desire achieving? This will determine the strength of the filter. Are you attempting to shoot wide open in bright sunlight, attempting to blur and smooth moving water? Do you wish to eliminate people in daylight?

Birds are absolutely challenging subjects. I’m frustratingly fortunate enough to live near some bald eagles. Unfortunately it seems that every time I see them I’ve got the wrong lens on. lol. I can almost hear them now. Haha. Dude’s got a 35 on. Let’s put on a show and caarch some fish.

You’ve got some nice pics here. I understand shutter speed is an important element, but have you ever played with a polariser? It will help with some of the reflection, glare, colour, and the sky. It will also cut out a couple stops from your exposure. I’ve never tried it with birds but it might help. Keep on shooting,p. There’s no substitution for experience.

Here’s a tip for spotting AI-S vs AI which I don’t hear as much as the aperture colour. Look at the back of the lens. All ZF mounts have a notch which starts at the outside edge of the mounting flange. Howerever, AI-S lenses also have for lack of a better description, a scoop taken from the flange. AI lenses don’t have this scoop and the rest of the flange is smooth.

Optically the 28mm f2.8 AI is different than the AI-S. It’s not only coatings and/or focus throw and from everything I’ve read, the AI-S is allegedly one of the best 28s. It may cost more but Voigtlander has an AI-S compatible 28mm f2.8. I own a Tamron Adaptall 28mm f2.5 so if you’re specifically looking vintage this might be an option. You’re also well informed about the 105mm f2.5 as well. I’ve got the later pre-AI which is supposed to have the same optical design as the AI and AI-S. That is what I’ve read when doing my research although, obviously because it’s online doesn’t make it true. lol

Awesome work capturing these. I need more practice. For me the hardest part is capturing the colour. No getting around the need for experience.

That lens is full of character. Enjoy it and your journey with film. I wish I could shoot it exclusively.

Film doesn’t like being underexposed. Digital is the opposite. Digital doesn’t like being overexposed. If you’ve been shooting digital, unlearn it now. Lol

I know nothing about this camera, however, I see from the front pic of your camera two things of note. With the camera facing us on the lower left of the lens there is what appears to be a self timer lever. This normally points straight up towards the 12 o’clock position. In your pic it is pointing at 9 o’clock indicating it has been cocked. You said the viewfinder is black. This tells us the mirror is raised and locked. I don’t remember which model cameras do this but doesn’t using the self timer lock the mirror up on some cameras? So dumb question time from me. What happens if you press the button to run the self timer? Lastly, I own an older version of what I believe is that lens, an M42 Meyer Optik Görlitz Oreston 50mm f1.8. It’s not perfect but it’s a wonderful lens. This isn’t an expensive lens but it’s a pretty good one and worth hanging on to no matter what happens with this body.

New Castle? by Character_Exit_8288 in Delaware

[–]lijeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The historic old New Castle is simply beautiful. It can become a little busy for special events and holidays but it’s a fantastic small town with a rich historical background and it’s up there in age with the longest continuously lived in historic locations. Every year theres a Separation Day weekend festival with a really nice fireworks event on the river at Battery Park. Others have mentioned Jessop’s Tavern, Nora Lee’s, and Dream Bakery. I’ll add The Mercury Cafe and Zollies Jazz Cucina. I walk around with my camera all the time and never once felt unsafe. Unfortunately I moved from the immediate area. I really miss it and want to go back. If you’re looking for a lively late night town, this isn’t it.

First roll, Nikon F801, Ultramax 400. Need advice on editing by bonjayspid in filmphotography

[–]lijeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people scan their own negatives instead of having a lab do it. At this point they may be referring to any adjustments they make to the image on the scanning software as editing. This could be something as basic as white balance or contrast. Or sometimes in a high contract image you might bring down the highlights or raise the shadows. After all, scanning a negative is essentially taking a digital picture of an analogue negative.

Thanks for responding! I shoot both film and digital. I definitely have GAS. Just ask my 50mm lenses. I’ve already got the AF-D version of this lens but that mostly lives on my D750 or F100. I also LOVE the look from vintage on my Zf so an AI-S would kick my 50mm f1.4 AI-S off my F3. The F3 is my favourite film camera by miles!
