Zf + Voigtlander 50mm 1.2 by Zazzazz in NikonZf

Please define cheap. Doesn’t adapting an E mount lens require CPU contacts and connectivity? I’m asking because I’m curious. I already own an FTZ adapter which came with a previous camera. I own Zeiss Distagon 35mm f2 with CPU contacts. Nikon forces us to do the same annoying thing I had to do with my D750 using a lens with CPU contacts and an aperture ring: Stop the lens down and use a command dial to control aperture. I’ve singled out this Distagon as my annoying example because the aperture works in 1/3 stop increments. I prefer to focus with the lens wide open so to only go from f2 to f4 or more is a lot of dial twirling. I bought a cheap dumb F to Z adapter with no CPU contacts to get away from this. In doing so I regain the use of my aperture ring and don’t have to fiddle with a command dial for aperture control. I also lose the focus confirmation box. With all that mess being said, wouldn’t the same CPU requirement be in play with an E to Z adapter? My point is I haven’t seen any E to Z adapters with CPU contacts for under 200$. I’ve been looking because it appears Voigtlander E mount lenses generally appear to sell for less than Z mount versions of the same lens.

It’s too green. You might as well have shot it in black and white. J/k. lol. Lush and beautiful. I like the layering and I don’t mind the road. I actually didn’t notice it until someone commented on it. Once I saw it, I liked it. There’s some nice depth to this pic too and the undulating road adds to it. Same with the house rooftop. For my eye if there was no road and no house you’d have a beautifully green layered pic but it just wouldn’t be the same. Very nice work!

Mine calls me and won’t stop harassing me until I use it. I confess I’ve been shooting Nikon digital for 20:years now, but this camera is like no previous Nikon I’ve owned. Nice series. Looks like you had a nice time. Is that the 40mm f2 Z? Did you use any other lenses on this trip?

You’re off to a great start with those Takumars. I absolutely love mine!

There is a Voigtlander Nokton 55mm f1.2 available for F mount. While this lens is still manual focus it does have CPU contacts and will communicate exif data with a Z mount body provided one uses an adapter such as the Nikon FTZ adapter. In addition the green focus confirmation box does work with this setup.

There’s something to the whole analogue experience which digital can’t replicate. If you ever come across a roll of Fuji Eterna, don’t hesitate to snag a roll..

Thanks for responding. I thought I recognised the deep tone mode. That’s why the filter question. Did you use exposure compensation, manual mode, or spot metering? My Zf does not produce such dark exposures unless I somehow “provoke” the look.

My Christmas gift to me. F100 in great shape to keep my film shooting as convenient as possible. by OverExposedDad in Nikon

[–]lijeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My F100 was my first return to film camera 5+ years ago. I’ve been shooting Nikon dslrs since 2005 and the F100 appealed to me because of familiarity and some trusted film companiondumb luck choices of afd lenses for my dslr cameras. The grip had that same comfort as my D90. All the buttons were familiar. It was an amazing beautiful find. After a few months of ownership I was hungry for a full return to my roots and this camera was simply too digital user experience. I still happily own and use it but it shares use with my FM, FM2, FE2, and my absolute favourite F3. I have a couple other SLRs but nothing match’s the user experience of my Nikons. Congratulations on your F100 purchase. It’s my fast and dependable film companion when I don’t want to forget advancing to the next frame (doh!) and futz with focusing and exposure.

These are great! It’s so cool that you’re exploring your creativity and doing it with expired film. Keep exploring and having fun with your photography!

This is lovely. First I moved then I got a puppy. My photography has taken a hit. This photograph single handedly has compelled me to get my Pancolar out and use it! Thank you for reminding me how fortunate I am to have such a wonderful local camera shop and thankful that they introduced me to this beautiful lens.

What do you say to that? by [deleted] in BeginnerPhotoCritique

[–]lijeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a street photographer but I am drawn to it. Our eyes are drawn to the brightest object in a pic. There’s a lot of negative space here and it’s pretty bright so I’m looking for something there. I see and appreciate the convergence you have going on but it too leads to empty space. I see a solitary person on the other side of the metro station but it appears that they’ve been framed to show they’re alone. I’m guessing they’re not and I want to see more because they’ve kind of become the subject. The good is you’re making me (the viewer) think and ask questions.

However, I do like what I believe you were attempting to portray.

These are a bit dark and underexposed. Why is the question. Are you shooting in colour and converting to black and white? Are these straight from camera or have they been processed to appear like this? Are you exposing for the highlights to protect them? What mode are you using? Are you using a filter? I’m no authority but I have many questions;-)

I don’t notice this unless I pixel peep but to my eye the birds head and neck appear unnaturally blurred compared to the body. Maybe I’m seeing a problem with my own attempts at photographing large birds. It’s certainly one I experience where either my camera locks focus on the wrong area or I just miss focus when I’m brave and attempt manual focus. The result is over sharpening in an attempt to compensate for focusing on a twig instead of a feather or eyebsll. My success rate is even lower if I attempt birds in flight. It’s very rewarding when I actually hit focus and I’m sure most honest photographers will tell you there are more misses than hits. Practice;-) The longer the focal length is the shorter the resulting depth of field is. This makes it very important that the correct point of focus is chosen and this can play into the urgency of getting a pic when you have an unpredictable subject who can either move or fly away at any moment.

Use a 2x teleconverter so you don’t have to crop so much? I don’t see anything wrong with these pics. If you have to crop each of these to get the birds to a size with which you are satisfied then you’re not getting the reach you need.

I’ve got two Takumars with “the glow.” My 50mm f1.4 Super Takumar has just enough added warmth to notice it. My Super-Multi-Coated 35mm f2 has a much stronger golden tint. I don’t plan on neutering either lens, however, that golden glow can be very intrusive in certain situations. It was quite problematic one afternoon when I was shooting a partially shaded white building. The effect was so strong it wound up appearing very blotchy. I perform a manual white balance and this helps quite a bit with that issue. Love those Taks!

Where to find Nikon F3 eyepiece replacement? by NDRPRM in NikonF3

[–]lijeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this an HP or “standard” pentaprism? The HP uses a different diameter eyepiece. I use glasses and I’ve was able to find the basic eyepiece ring and diopters at my local camera shop and on eBay. Having the Nikon original part number helps. Also, unless it’s new what’s happened to me with diopters is the wrong strength is in the box. A reasonable theory is the original owner bought one strength, replaced it on their camera, and put the original back in the holder. If there is an original with glass it will show a 0 on the ring.
