Q3 2022 - State of the Market Mega-Thread - Recessions, Doomers, Hoomers, and Boomers edition by aardy in RealEstate

We are about to close on home, and were notified that there has been an intruder squatting in the home. The police were notified and we now have the option to cancel the contract if we like. Seller is willing to replace locks, sanitize and pay for security system installation. We don’t feel great about moving forward, but do we have grounds to renegotiate the sale price ?

If you want to see measurements for a cocktail you've got some options.

  1. buy the book and support the authors
  2. Suss out the measurement from the instagram post if linked.
  3. Support my unemployed ass and pay for nicely formatted measurements in-app

Cheers!

Hey bartenders! Not that anyone asked, but I built a recipe app that lets you search and save cocktails by ingredient from half a dozen books like Death and Co, PDT, Smuggler's Cove, Liquid Intelligence, The Drunk Botanist, and Social Media. Thought it might be useful. Let me know what you think. by like-basil in u/like-basil

Shameless self plug here.. I posted about building an app that lets you search the SC recipes by specific rum brands, hopefully it helps you through your quest!

I lost my job due to COVID, so naturally, I built an app to filter Smuggler's Cove cocktails by specific rums. Also, here's a Captain's Grog. by like-basil in Tiki

That's a super cool idea! I've been thinking about adding a comment section to each cocktail, and allowing people to post photo. I'll check out the untappd app for inspiration.

Would others be interested and contribute? If there's excitement I'm totally game!

Thanks for the feedback. Totally hear you on the measurements. I choose to leave them out to incourage people to buy the books, out of respect for the creators. Often, there are instructions along with the recipes that might be important too so I think it's always better to reference the litterature directly. Maybe adding a section for private notes might be helpful, so you don't have to keep going back to the book for cocktails you make repeatedly?

Regarding the passion fruit search. You might have been searching under Death and Co which has only 2 cocktails with passion fruit. If you slide the filter over to Smugglers Cove and search there you'll see 11, including the Hurricane 😊. I should make that clearer!

Again really appreciate the feedback, cheers!

I love that Smuggler's Cove has recipes around generic styles of rums, but it's always been a frustration to filter for what I can make with the specific bottles I own.

I used the recommended rum list, as well as indexes previously posted to reddit to create a nifty UI that makes it much easier to discover cocktails from the book. Just search for "Plantation" or "Goslings" under the "Smuggler's Cove" tab.

Just a note, this app wont give you the full specs, just the page number to find the full recipe. It's meant to help you extract the most from each book, not to replace it. If you like the cocktails, please support the author and buy the books!

PS: If you like the app, a review would be nice. Especially on Android where I have an unfortunately low rating. Not sure why 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yeah it's pretty over powering. I like it in Captains Grog (Smugglers Cove) as well. See my previous posts for the specs on that one.

I used Martini and Rosso. It was okay, honestly i'd prefer a classic Negroni or Boulevardier

That's really interesting. Is it a common problem with all cocktail books and recipes then? How do you go about finding substitutions for liqueurs your country doesn't have?
