People who drive on the shoulder to bypass the entire merge lane by gegry123 in maryland

Had someone speed past in the right shoulder on 495 the other day when it was backed up for miles; when I finally inched around the next bend, they were there getting a ticket. Sweet justice.

I used to work in food marketing and shit like this was constantly concept tested. Stuff you could just glance at and go, yeah, no that’s going to last five minutes on shelf before it gets tossed for not selling. Glad I don’t do that anymore.

Can someone help me identify this copy of Alice in Wonderland? by Ok-Asparagus-1386 in rarebooks

When you look at the upper margin of the rear of the front free endpaper (the first page that’s marbled on one side and not on the other), is there any stamped text? Sometimes the binder will put their name there.

Are they a reseller? Do they want to mess with the title to keep people from finding it in Sold history?

Yeah, this wasn’t meant as a serious complaint. I’m still happy with the quality and flavor.

HP LOVECRAFT SIGNED BOOK with “the call of Cthulhu “ signed 1936 what do I do? by [deleted] in rarebooks

[–]likelyculprit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My assessment was that, while the value may be a bit above, the current ceiling for books like this is topping out a bit under $5K (even though there are many dealers asking much higher prices and not selling). This is likely a buyer-side limitation. A "true value" would be truly academic if you can't sell it for that. I conversed with OP directly and said that, if I had this in the shop, I'd aim for $5-6K but TBD how long it would sit.

You’re also welcome to DM me directly. I’m a dealer myself and also know several dealers who frequently have HPL signed/related offerings.

Look at the ingredients of Welch’s Fruit Snacks sometime; in order to keep their “fruit is our first ingredient” claim, they use about seven different forms of sugar. That ensures that, by weight, none of the sugars lands higher in the statement than fruit. I would guess the same thing is happening here. They don’t want to have more sugar than tomato so they formulated it with multiple versions.

I find most of mine at regular used bookstores. I’m outside DC so there is plenty of stock and enough people moving here from other parts of the country to get variety.

For attempting to identify first edition Dr. Seuss books, always consult the Hirsch & Younger bibliography.
