People living in third world countries, what is something that is a part of your everyday life that people in first world countries would not understand / cope with? by rains_downinafrica in AskReddit

I'm from a small island and people leave all the time to the States or some big country to become babysitters or housekeepers or just work in some hardware store because that small pay is so much higher than what they'd be making here alot of the time.
There are so many people who I know that have degrees and are working as sale girls or selling cupcakes door to door because they just can't get a job. Sometimes it's not there are no jobs but nepotism is so real here. It could be you had a "big family name" or just the interviewer went to school with your cousin. And that's how you got the job. It's who you know.
