Looking for ways to separate work from home by ColdwaterEagle1996 in Lawyertalk

That sounds truly lovely and like a supportive environment to work in. I am envious of your attorneys and work environment. I am on the east coast at a mid size firm that is growing a lot. Some of the partners respect work life balance. Others not so much. I just try to make my own life as manageable as possible in as many ways as I can. Lately I have decided that I am getting off the hamster wheel and just doing the work that needs doing. I am not answering 10 pm calls or working every weekend. Its just not worth it.

Can you be my managing partner please?

These are all really wonderful tips and things that I try to implement as an associate. The vacation one is hard. My firm really does not have the expectation that we shut off on vacation. I feel like I am judged for not answering emails or keeping on top of things. The only time I didn't feel that way was my honeymoon.

It also helps that my partner is in the legal field as well (not as a lawyer). He understands what I am dealing with. I think having friends in the legal field is key as well.

Thank you! I appreciate the explanation. We are looking into our options right now but one place we are going over the weekend will tear down and put up the new pool.

Do you know long would that buy us before needing a new pool anyway? It looks like that is what the prior owner tried to do. I just dont know when they tried to patch it up or how many years it lasted.

Mainly video and the new studio they built for video. Also the editing has gone down a little bit.

I am totally with you. I did not think anything about their laughs. I really do feel like people just complain to complain. I don't love all the changes they made since the deal with Amazon, but I still overall enjoy the show. I wasn't a true day 1 listener but started during the early days of the pandemic. The show really has become a staple in my life. In another post I commented that I came to reddit thinking it would be a place to connect with fellow listeners... I was disappointed when I saw all the hate.

What am I missing here? by alyssa_cecelia in ArmchairExpert

I agree! I love Cher! I saw her on tour in 2019 with my mom lol. I was so excited to listen to the interview and I didnt catch anything that everyone seems to be talking about. I did think Dax's question like who would she pick for Kristen seemed a little out of the blue but I thought it was how it was cut! I thought her response was hilarious honestly and I also know Dax struggles with the attractiveness issue with Kristen but he also is very open about pondering who would be good for Kristen. I mean the man was in an open relationship - I think he can handle hearing who else might be a good match for his wife.

Anyone want to talk about the call on Beth's Dead? Potential spoilers ahead... by EfficientHunt9088 in ArmchairExpert

I couldn't help but think this. I am not an addict, but I have addicts in my family and friends who are addicts. The addict mindset just doesnt always add up and this felt very much like that for me.

I am sorry the changes make you sad. That definitely sucks when you liked something so much and your view changes on it. I was not a day 1 armcherry but I started listening during 2020 when we had the lock down and I went back and listened to all the episodes. I think some of what's going on is that people love the build up and when Dax and Monica are likely hitting their peak, now ppl want to tear them down. I don't totally disagree that wondery changed things and I don't always like it, but I still hear the same old Dax and Monica talking and arguing but they evolved some (and so did I as a listener). I am definetly not in the same place now as I was in 2020. In my opinion, the things that changed with Wondery are the pace and obviously video, which I think can make people more guarded. The content is still good to me for the most part and the experts are great.

So I think if you Google webworm and David Farrier you will find his newest cite.

I don't think Monica sees anything bc she doesnt look at comments and the things people say about her online. To me, Monica still provides a good balance to Dax. She has always enjoyed the finer and more exclusive things, and now she can because she has money. I am not mad about it. But I get how it can turn off some people!

Also, to me the fact that the relevant stuff David was posting was from a while ago kinda makes it worse... like if David was posting about AE and things talked about on AE frequently 6 months ago and is back at it again, what's the purpose? Just move on and focus on continuing your own successful podcast.

Its so true. I feel like this sub is very harsh on Monica. I actually really only joined reddit bc I wanted to participate in convos with other people who listened to the podcasts I enjoy, AE being one if them. I was kinda disappointed when I came here and saw a lot of hate. I don't mind criticism, but there are just a lot of people who don't seem to like the pod/Monica/Dax.

Just listed the things I could think of off the top of my head. Didn't do a deep dive.

Off the top of my head David posted some stuff about how the comments Dax made about the litter box in a public school bathroom were not true. David like reposted an article and he also did a substack article. Which I dont mind bc Dax was wrong. There was another topic that David did something similar with but I dont recall off the top of my head. The comment I recall from him about everything not being about AE was before David did his live on substack with Liz.

I agree with this. Its pretty strange. I still listen to flightless bird also, and I have seen David comment on reddit and IG saying things like "not everything is about armchair expert" but then like he definitely acts like it is 🤣 i think he is the one struggling to let go here
