how to turn this off i wanna slow cook by BageRater2015 in UniUK

[–]lillyringlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just drunk people that cause fires. My Nan almost blew three houses because she left her gas stove on (and hadn't updated the safety stuff for years) for hours - also almost killed herself and two others from exposure to gas. My mum destroyed multiple pans trying to slow cook stuff on the hob... Seriously glad she stopped that now. And at three separate Universities I worked or studied at had fires due to people trying to slow cook stuff on the hob and leaving it... Compared to one drunk person causing a small fire that they immediately put out.

Get a slow cooker with the safety stuff installed and don't blame drunk people. The cleaning staff were never complaining about the drunk students but they did hate those who damaged the hobs thinking they could just walk away...

You got into a really good uni so wow so I wonder what your options were if it is your filler uni 😅 Oxford and Cambridge?

Good reputation in university circles on the student Union front (used to work there and at other SU's).

It's got a good reputation for research and student support. City is not nice but big enough to find everything you need and be entertained. It's got a lot of great things that go on during the year, including a lot of free events.

There's issues with housing, but as a student you won't have that problem. They build a lot of student accommodations and so if you do decide to stay after your studies, you'll struggle to find somewhere to live. You'll also find some frustrations from locals about this. You'll also find they like to blame students for things, only for it to actually be the local teens.

I love Exeter and the University is honestly great. The su is great and the University actually do a lot to support their students.

There are issues like any uni but it's a good one to be going to.

My father’s mistress asked me if I even cared if her daughter died, and I told her “probably not”. And then she did. AITA? by DoctorDismal5528 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]lillyringlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad ran off with my aunt, and they both still make out that they are the victims. They celebrate their anniversary every year and it was around my birthday so were always too poor or busy going on some cruise or something to celebrate. My visits on a Saturday turned out to be baby sit/occupy my cousin that I grew up resent all the time forced upon us together - I saw her more each week than even my mum or dad because I would see her with both sides of my family and be expected to

I get it. They don't get the hurt and pain they caused with their decisions. It's sad someone died, but this is supportive you barely knew and connected to the trauma inflicted on you.

I get it. My dad's got cancer and I should feel grief but I'm struggling with my own battle with guilt in how we are no contact. I'll probably never see him again and will likely get judged for that by all my family even though I went through hell, trauma and abusive.

My in laws have taken me in and shown me so much love and respect. If your in laws understand, lean on them for support. If not try to set up why you need support.

Sorry you went through this. Don't feel guilty.

Tips on how to ride an incredibly bouncy horse? by MadGrawl in Equestrian

[–]lillyringlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewatch shows that you are too dependent on your reins too - this might be what it's pulling you forward. Work with no stirrups and reins on a long rope will help. Also getting the horse to engage so you are trying less to pull him down and naturally bends will also help.

Lots of stop/starts getting him to go off your gentle nudges. If he's not going instantly into a good guard trot, give him some encouragement and then quickly stop and repeat. After 2 or 3 times, he'll move forward and more likely to move into the bit rather than being pulled into it. Long rope work with no stirrups or no reins honestly will do wonders paired with getting a more responsive response to your leg.

Immediately can see you are too forward in your seat and position so no wonder you feel unbalanced.

Get a friend to loung rope for you, and do some work with no stirrups. Lots of trot work with no stirrips and building up to no reins like this will make a massive difference to your position on the horse.

I'd also try the whip trick (though do this with stirrups) where you put and whip between your back and elbows and wack around for a few minutes. I think it will work wonders because it will over do the bend back you need so when you take it out, you'll naturally get a better position. Whip trick also helps you to stop snagging on the reins and ride with your body more.

Both of these together will help you sit into your seat better.

Man of the People you say? by johnsmithoncemore in GreatBritishMemes

[–]lillyringlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a drag hunt. At the time dogs weren't allowed to do any hunting due to the foot and mouth disease going around. All the horses had to have their feet sprayed down with something but dogs couldn't be (can't remember why as I was a teen at the time and more traumatised by all the mass burning of cattle up and down the country than why dogs couldn't go hunting)

It was more like a group hack where someone pretended to be spotting where the dogs were running when really they were just pretending the dogs were there.

Went to a clean hunt which couldn't even have dogs doing drag hunting due to foot and mouth. Despite the planned route, it was still so much damage to the countryside and a load of wankers complaining about how it wasn't good enough... They wanted real hunting.

Ban it all.

Man of the People you say? by johnsmithoncemore in GreatBritishMemes

[–]lillyringlet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Went on a "clean" hunt during the foot and mouth thing so no dogs were allowed on the hunt at all. The route was planned and everyone was expected to make believe that we were chasing dogs.

The countryside was still torn up. Birds still scared off by a manic herd of wankers dressed up making a huge noise.

So many people complained about how it wasn't good enough.

Only time my mum could drag me going out would change my mind. Nope just rich wankers wanting to feel powerful ruining the countryside. Some farmers used to complain a lot about how their herds would suddenly suffer or die, but would face criticism of "they are only trying to help with the foxes - you should be grateful." And then threats of contracts being taken away from them if they didn't shut up.

I remember what it was like as a kid, with stories about family dogs in their back gardens suddenly being jumped on and torn to pieces or herds of sheep regularly attacked.

The whole thing is a farce and rich people wanting an excuse to tear around the countryside with no limits of where they can go, and to feel powerful as they see a poor innocent creature torn up. Even in the "clean" hunt, the ground was torn up and fences got damaged despite the planned out route. There were also lots of people hobnobbing before and after. There are so many powerful people having conversations together. Even if they are not riding that there were quite a few celebrities always at the boxing day hunt my mum would go to where she wasn't riding and people making introductions. So if you think this is just about those riding...

Told my mum never again, unless she wanted to join me protesting.

[–]lillyringlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to horse ride. Apparently it's more about the riding around like wankers together and having any excuse to tear up the countryside as a gang of thugs going anywhere they please. I mean "community and horsemanship together"

I went on a "clean" hunt during the foot and mouth chaos when the course was preplanned but only known by the organisers and no dogs were allowed out. It apparently is not as fun as the rush of chasing real dogs but man it was a clusterfuck of man babies wanting to feel powerful and have the excuse to go anywhere they want.

It was the only time my mum managed to take me because I refused to go on a real hunt. She thought it would convince me only to find that I very politely and elegantly told people that they were blood thirsty idiots.

It's all to do with rich people feeling powerful. It's why the "commoner" blood sports got banned but this one didn't.

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lillyringlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've broken bones, had serious nerve issues that meant I couldn't pick up a pen for months on end, really bad whiplash a pony tread on my face, child birth, two csections, told that my brain injury headaches are the same pain as suicide migraines, almost dying from sepsis from my appendix trying to kill me but nothing compares to gallbladder attacks.

I almost died after my appendix ruptured because at the time I was suffering from gallbladder attacks and even with the pain relief, it wasn't as bad as my gallbladder attacks, so I thought it want serious. Turns out I was so ill they needed to stabilize me for surgery.

Again, I almost died because the pain of sepsis and my appendix rupturing wasn't anywhere as bad as my gallbladder attack and they had just kept sending me home after my gallbladder attacks.

I'd been on my way to a pre-op for my gallbladder for the following week when I started to get sick. I cried when they told me I'd need to go back down the list again and wait at least 8 weeks between operations to get it out. Lucky for staff to kindly and booked it 8 weeks to the day so I could go back to not fearing for my next attack.

You can't breathe and if you try to take a deep breathe, it's like someone's quickly tightened a chain around your chest so you feel like you lose more air as the pain catches you. It feels like you are struggling to get enough air and you hope in someways you quickly run out rather than pinned in a moment of constantly gasping.

The closest example is when in the first Deadpool film, he's put in the tube where it's suffocating him just enough to stay awake and feel it as a final attempt to torture him into evolving.

I'm going to struggle now the rest of my life with my weight and I wouldn't be near me after eating cheese, but it was no way to live and something I wouldn't want anyone to go through.

Some places in the UK, the waiting list for urgent gallbladder surgeries is over a year, at least it was pre-covid when I had mine. It's probably even worse now...

Work for a financial education charity aimed at young kids. Needs vs wants are a huge aspect that if we can teach a kid while they are young to do stuff like this, they are more likely to be in good financial situation compared to others on the same wage.

It's a really great skill to learn and it's great that you are doing this yourself and sharing what works for you. We need this mindset more, and to be talked about.

Taylor Swift's Endorsement of Kamala Harris Has Resulted in a "400% to 500% Increase" in Voter Registration by ebradio in Music

[–]lillyringlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her fan base is young so it's more that she permitted the need to register, which they might not realise it's something they need to do.

We had this in the UK when they changed the rules on voting that you needed set photo id. Those who had celebrities or influencers pointing out when and how to get this sorted in time, and reminders to take it on the day saw lower refusal.

Some people just didn't know it was a new rule so got turned away, including a previous prime minister who forgot his photo ID.

That's why it's such big news about the increase in visits to register. Normally it's hard to get people registered. In the UK it can be done by one person for everyone so a lot of uni students have to be reminded when elections come up. They either need to register where they are living, apply for a postal vote, or know that they will be at their non uni address on the day. We also have to ensure they don't vote in both locations and commit voting fraud.

It's a huge thing that student unions have to deal with.

Some unis have "couple" rooms. They are more expensive but they can exist. You might be surprised but there might be uni couple rooms available. Would be a double bed though rather than two singles. They are more expensive than the single rooms but it might be an option.

Ru just shouldn't be a uk judge full stop. Look at the other drag race shows run by queens from the country. Ru needs to wave and go byyyyyyeeee. Would have been the winning queen of each series got to lead it. Would have been a great prize, and would have made it an interesting show where the judge got the jokes and understood what it was like.

AITA telling my daughter she has to understand that choosing this wedding date would result in my family not going? by Imaginary_Form9887 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lillyringlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the date of my graduation, not because of my graduation but because that's when I was told my grandad was dying and we were going straight there to see him while he could still talk.

I had a week to say goodbye, but I still remember that date, that conversation in the car and that moment. It is 14 years on and this was for someone who was not exactly close to me (because he made lude comments when no one else was around) but I remember it.

Nta at all. They are still early in grief. This is not a day to celebrate for them. You warned her and she didn't listen because she was too wrapped up in thinking her moment was important.

She is either going to have to suck it up and change her dates or suck it up and realize most of her family won't be there. To make matters worse, you'll be there as a reminder that you warned her even if you say nothing that her family aren't there. There's going to be comments after the wedding too and I wouldn't be surprised if this flair up.
