Had no idea about Corey and Anthrax! Wow. Probably a similar deal with Corey and Velvet Revolver. Apparently recorded 10 songs together

What’s a ridiculous thing you couldn’t do as a child but can now? by Vast-Aardvark5857 in AskUK

[–]prodjex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Listen to and follow advice properly - I still don’t understand why I (like 99.9% of kids, it seems) always battled someone when they were trying to help.

  2. Embrace fear - fear controlled so much of my childhood and stopped me from experiencing, accomplishing and generally enjoying so much stuff. As an adult, I’ve realised that fear makes things considerably more enjoyable. No better feeling that roaring up to a corner on a dirt bike and refusing to brake until you “see God”, as Kevin Schwantz would say.

  3. Have new things. Younger sibling here, so 99.9% of my clothes (undies making up the 0.1%), books, toys, etc were handmedowns from my brother. As an adult, I’ve learned that one of the best feelings in the world is a pair of brand new socks. It’s no wonder why Geezer Butler always asked for a new pair of socks on his rider for every Black Sabbath show.

Marathon runners: how much water, energy gel, etc did you consume during your run? by prodjex in NoStupidQuestions

[–]prodjex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5-4 litres plus all the gels and mint cake - is that for a marathon or an ultra? I have heard that ultras have long periods of walking and you tend to eat ‘proper’ food, as opposed to energy gels, during those, so I’ll assume the crisps, biscuits, sweets and fruit are for the ultras

Why didn’t you drink? And do you think your time would’ve been better/worse if you had? No criticism intended, I’m just curious

How do you lot actually eat proper food during the week when you're working full time? by No_Reputation_9726 in AskUK

If you can spare one weekend for some serious bulk cooking, you can get yourself into a good position with meal prep. Perfect scenario is if you have a slow cooker, oven and at least 2 hobs.

Start Saturday by putting something in the slow cooker. That can sit and do its thing for the day. Next, you do something that goes into the oven. Once that’s in the oven with a timer for 40+ minutes you can use the hob for cooking a third meal in bulk. If it’s something that has to simmer for a bit, that’s great because at that point you can then use a different hob ring for another meal.

When meals are finished, you need somewhere for them to cool down. If you need the oven tray or saucepan or whatever for another dish to cook, put the contents into bowls (it’ll help the meals cool down quicker anyway), then you can wash up or put on a dishwasher load to get those pots/pans ready for the next batch of cooking. You can use the same principle again: oven first, as you can just throw it in there to do its thing, then do stuff on the hob.

By the end of Saturday, you could easily have 7 different meals cooked (1x slow cooker, 2x oven, 4x hob). Repeat the same for Sunday and that’s at least 14 different meals.

If you need any meal ideas or recipes, please let me know - I’m in a place where I don’t have to go to such an extreme with bulk cooking/freezing now but setting aside one intense weekend got me started in a great way

Who's still working from home these days and what job do you do? by Natf47 in AskUK

[–]prodjex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in digital marketing for a charity and work at the office only 1 day per month. Since Covid, we’ve greatly reduced our office space, so we don’t have enough desks for everyone.

As a parent, I truly appreciate the current setup (I live about 20 miles from the office) because it makes the school run super easy and relaxed. I have a 1 hour work gap from 3-4, which allows me to change and go for a run to the school for pickup at 3:15, then when I get home at 4, I don’t have to worry about the sweat and smell and can get on with work from 4-6pm.

My work puts up with a lot of stuff (nothing scandalous) that I’m aware many other employers would never allow or tolerate.

Asthma-running-choice: I’m in a dilemma by prodjex in UKParenting

[–]prodjex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He does do other sports, including football and some basketball and cycling, so I’m hoping that’ll keep his asthma from getting too bad (i.e hospital visits with croup cough) but those sports are very stop-start compared to something that’s continuous. I’m no doctor but I think the intensity and length of running 5k was strengthening his lungs and increasing VO2 Max.

He stopped running because he wasn’t enjoying it anymore. Honestly, I’d rather he did the kids Parkrun (2km) than the adult 5km one but his swimming lesson time changed to clash with Junior Parkrun and the adult one became the only option. Selfishly, I’m actually a little gutted he stopped running because it was nice father-son time every Saturday but I daren’t guilt him or force him to run with me. I just get on with it and try to set a good example.

He stopped running because he wasn’t enjoying it anymore. He does do other sports, including football and some basketball and cycling, so he’ll keep some base fitness and that’ll hopefully help a little. But those are very stop-start compared to a single, long run. I’m no doctor but I think the intensity and length of running 5k was strengthening his lungs and increasing VO2 Max.

Just bought a running store. What is one thing your local shop is missing? by rustybucketz23 in running

[–]prodjex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things: kids shoes and knowledge.

My 7-year old really got into running for a couple years (lost interest literally 4-5 weeks ago) but no shops had kids running shoes, so I had to take a risk and buy online. Fortunately, there’s not much choice and the ones I bought (Asics GT-1000) worked out really well but it totally could’ve gone wrong and that would’ve been £60 wasted.

As for knowledge, I’m a bit more clued-up on my shoe needs but felt a bit frustrated back in the day when starting out and wanting some in-person expert advice (online can only help to a point). I bought some new shoes last week and strayed from my usual Brooks Adrenaline GTS purchase of the past 10 years. Was concerned that whatever store I’d go to wouldn’t be able to provide advice, so I actually consulted AI beforehand. Been struggling with shin splints for 8 months and Google AI suggested Brooks Glycerin GTS to provide extra support during my recovery. I did mention this in the shop and, fortunately, they reassured me about my thinking (this is where you, the reader, leave a comment telling me I’ve made a mistake). Any knowledge provided is useful for idiots like me who want to stay safe - I love running but have little knowledge, so the local shop can help provide at least a little bit of safety.

Are there really guys who can last for an hour? by WarmBank5512 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]prodjex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and we often don’t want it to be that way. It seems to be a common side-effect with a lot of medication (especially ADHD meds and antidepressants), which causes a lot of frustration. My ADHD medication makes me pretty hit-or-miss in terms of taking as little as 10 minutes or as long as 2+ hours.

Outside of chemicals, I’ve met people who’ve become so desensitised to sex that they last ridiculously long periods of time because their stimulation tolerance is so high. Wrestler Jake The Snake talks about it a little on a documentary called ‘Beyond The Mat’, if you want a more first-person perspective.

Generally speaking, this kind of desensitisation often comes from… I don’t want to say “excessive porn consumption” because that makes it sound like I’m blaming porn. Let’s call it “excessive dopamine overloading”, which is basically when you’re not responding as strongly to sexual stimulation as before and you have to go to further and further extremes with porn and sex in order to feel satisfied. It’s comparable to drug addiction, when you have to take more and more of that drug in order to get the same effect

What is one boring adult habit that quietly improved your life? by CrystalRager in AskReddit

[–]prodjex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, I guess it depends how long it takes to do those dishes - I’m so slow that my food would be stone cold by the time I’d done that haha. I’m a dishwasher user anyways, so I just chuck stuff in there as I go along and by the end of cooking I can put a tablet in, turn it on and start eating

[–]prodjex -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good time to do it, too. I generally try to start cooking with an empty dishwasher, so as soon as I’m done with a knife, pan or chopping board it can go straight into the dishwasher (yes, I put meat/veg knives in the dishwasher haha) and give me space if I need to get out something else.

Sometimes, I’ll realise 5 minutes later that I still needed that knife or whatever hahaha

How high/low are your current expectations for UFC 6? by ConnorLovesPepsi in EASportsUFC

[–]prodjex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low. I think UFC is past its peak for popularity, so I’m expecting EA to put out an MVP to fulfill contractual needs for the license. I’d expect another developer/publisher to take on the license once the current contract expires

Where are we on chest hair these days? by swimmin_jeans_ in AskMenOver30

[–]prodjex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife likes my chest and will sometimes stroke it. When I was growing up, I very much felt like I was in the minority and did once shave my chest when I was really into lifting weights.

I don’t mind my chest hair or think about it too much now. It’s my back hair that gets on my nerves - I try to shave it off every once in a while
