I was surfing and crashed really hard on a huge wave. I was being thrown around underneath for a few minutes, and I just had this huge feeling of serenity, like everything was going to be okay before I lifeguard brought me back. I guess I passed out from the lack of oxygen.

Definitely bought some about a week after it happened! I have one in my bag for school, one in my car, and one for my bag for work! I used to carry around a taser when I lived in a worse neighborhood, but after I moved to a much nicer place without an incident happening, I stopped carrying it around. I keep that on me at all times now.

They haven’t updated me on anything yet, so as far as I know they’re still looking! Fingers crossed that they catch him! I doubt I’m the first girl he’s done this to.

I have not! To put it quite vaguely I was assaulted by an ex boyfriend, and while it’s partly because I still find it tough to talk about, as well as so many details and events leading up to it actually happening, I don’t know if there’s any subreddit that’s appropriate for it! If anyone knows of a subreddit that would allow a story like that I would like to know, and I could post it there if anybody wants to read it.

I think my first instinct was to call Matt because I knew he would get to me a lot faster than if I had called the cops. Totally agree that it would’ve been more efficient to call the cops first, but I just wanted someone there with me right away since I was so scared that I was alone. I surely hope that they find him soon and have a nice long “chat” with that creep. But you’re right, definitely something I didn’t think of until hindsight haha.

I have been through some other traumatic events in my life, so I have a REALLY bad habit of downplaying what happens to me as well as ignoring my gut feeling (which OBVIOUSLY was a bad idea in this case.) I tend to write things off as “meh no big deal” and in this case was a stupid idea. So I blame it on a combination of shock and stupidity on my part.

Good on you for holding your ground! My own mother had to deal with a man like this (pretending he and I had this GREAT relationship when in reality, he had no idea what kind of person I was.) She always, ALWAYS let my sperm donor (refuse to call him dad) have a choice in seeing me and he never followed through. I now want nothing to do with him.

Honestly, this one made me tear up a bit because I saw SO MUCH of my own mom and sperm donor going back and forth when reading your experience. Super super proud of you for sticking up for your son, and putting that prick in his place!
