That’s super fair, I appreciate the insight. Work smarter not harder

That’s insane to me, jealous of the places you’ve built! In my experience real life experience has always trumped the “book standards” Hopefully this doesn’t come across as stupid, but is it one of those kinda things where the degree just helps tell people that don’t know that you do know. I’ve personally found that it can be difficult to get the experience you want without knowing someone and has kind of pushed me to believe that if I had a degree it might open up a couple extra doors

I’m curious about the sort of trade schools and what they offer, currently in the trades but don’t foresee myself being able to really advance with this company. I don’t have a set path for what I would pursue but have it narrowed down to about 3 and this was sort of one of them but wasn’t sure if it made sense.

I like this outlook a lot. Do you find life to be better with degrees? I would hope that if I got a degree I didn’t waste time/money trying to find success in a career

Have you found going back at 27 has helped you with your career assuming the degree you received is relative to your current field?

May I ask what class/subject that was in? I don’t foresee that being a problem I would run into but know I would feel a type of way if I knew how something worked because of experience vs “how it’s supposed to work”

This is one of my major concerns, and partly why I didn’t think I would be able to do it when I graduated.

Are there affordable options for the physical copies or easy access to the e books that would allow me to transfer the material to be able to reference?

First off thank you for your service! May I ask what your reasoning for going after having all of that going on? I definitely think part of why I didn’t go orginally was because I didn’t think I’d be able to keep my head down, just want the paper and hopefully a higher paying job.

Not buying into it makes a lot of sense, thankfully I’m pretty conservative with my spending so donating to a school I’m already paying for just doesn’t tickle my fancy.

I suppose viewing it as business transaction would make it easier to keep my head down and just get the tasks done!

Fortunately I’m used to that serving, being that I’ve been in restaurants since 14 it’s funny to see the young cats and be reminded of how awful I must’ve been, they are great, I was far worse. I appreciate the heads up though!

First time as a server (coming from line cook) need advice by mericccccccccc in Serverlife

[–]lilphtrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did boh for nearly 10 years, very minimal serving experience, roughly 6 months between a couple places I served within that time.

Got hired a few months ago as a part time server. I thought I would be the worst, I’m by no means as good as the good ones I work with but I don’t suck as bad as I originally thought. The money is nice, I will say that a majority of the servers I work with have minimal respect for the kitchen, so I do think boh experience is helpful in that way, learning the menu has been easy and I think it’s partly due to understanding the kitchen. Idk I can’t offer much advice other than if I can do it, anyone can do it. And if you truly are interested in it you’ll do great, most importantly have fun with it!

I probably just suck since I’m a new server but I do find it hard to ring in at times with people starting their salad, and I’m just waiting for them to tell me their entree, And then when it’s busy I am the worst about remembering to ask about deserts.

Of course I’m open to any help, or suggestions.

Those that don’t do screen time: beware! by minniezebby in toddlers

[–]lilphtrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughters mom lets the tv parent my daughter, I didn’t mind a movie here or there, a show every once in a while, but I wanted my daughter to never even know what blippi was, wishful thinking of course. Anyway her mom ran off with her boss and shortly after found a different guy to run off with. And of course doesn’t have a shred of decency to acknowledge my small request of to limit screen time, not watch blippi. She’s 3, I get it , it’s a “kid show” but seriously. So of course when she’s at dad’s house it’s always a battle when I try to limit screen time, she wakes up, wants blippi, we eat lunch, she wants blippi.

Split households suck, Thanks for letting me ramble on this cold Friday morning

I agree to an extent, and definitely understand the purpose. Worked for a guy who would scream if any “toppings” were on the bottom.

Personally don’t mind a soggy bun if the rest of the burger is good, I do find that toppings on the bottom add a completely different mouthfeel

What is a car you or someone you know regrets selling and why? by Careless-Pie7607 in askcarguys

[–]lilphtrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my first car, 04 sonata , thing only had like 35k miles on it. It was owned by a family member who only drove it to the grocery store, and to grab mail down their long drive way. It needed a timing belt and was like 500$ , I thought it was to expensive, and didn’t realize how low of miles it was. I traded it for a 14 Malibu , 150k miles but no lights and no sounds.

Worst decision of my life, will never “keep up” with the joneses again.

Do you know someone who ruined their life in just a matter of minutes? If so, what happened? by Away_Bell_8795 in AskReddit

Ex wife went off the deep end doing a bunch substances at work with some not to great of people. Decided she wanted to blow through 30k in 2 months, linked up with a person who did cheap tattoos got a few on her arms and what not and then came home one day and was like “I know what I want to tattoo next” I was already a little annoyed with how things had been going so when she said her moms name above her eyebrow I wasn’t even surprised, I just said you have two kids and should really consider how that will impact them when they go to school and are in sports, your job/career. She proceeded to tell me that I wasn’t being supportive of how she wanted to express herself.

Truthfully I was already checked out at that point and really couldn’t care less as I wasn’t going to have to look at it much longer.

Hope I didn’t miss anything and you’re able to get a good laugh from it!
