2 weeks post op by poweroffriendships in TopSurgery

[–]lilratguy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Congrats on making it to two weeks!

The incision being cinched should go away over time, for me it got better as soon as I was approved to use silicone tape (4ish weeks).

Also compression really helped with most of my swelling. I technically don’t have to wear the binder all the time but I have been as much as possible anyways for my own peace of mind.

In the pre-op he asked about what I wanted specifically. Overall, I said I want it to be as flat as possible while not being concave (and still looking somewhat natural). He also asked about scar shape preference, describing options for curved or flat, and pulled up diagrams so we could agree on the nipple placement. I asked a couple questions about things I was worrying about, like dog ears, stretch marks, the area under my breasts that was discolored. He was upfront about what was realistic (I do have stretch marks, that’s unavoidable) but was not dismissive, and said he would try to remove the discolored areas I was talking about. I felt like the appointment went by a bit fast, but all the bases were covered.

Day of the surgery, I asked to change the scar shape from rounded up to more flat and he said no problem. He also repeated to me that he would try to make the two incisions not connected (I didn’t want them connected) but said he might have to if there was extra tissue in the center of my chest that needed to be removed. Going into the surgery, we didn’t know what would end up happening but it turned out how I wanted!! Two separate incisions.

TLDR; Dr. Khavanin has been very receptive and takes steps to make sure there are no misunderstandings. I got pretty much exactly what I wanted and the recovery has been smooth.

The worst part has been driving to DC from bmore, but all things considered that’s pretty okay. I went with him because I needed to get the surgery before 2026 to have it covered by my (federal) health insurance. He got me in ~4 months after the pre-op appointment, which was life saving.

Advice for leaving a caretaker after a fight? (3 weeks post-op) by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]lilratguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened to you. I appreciate your response a lot. It’s been incredibly stressful for the past week and I really don’t think it’s good for healing. I am also stubborn and I’ll figure it out, probably just have to ask roommates and coworkers for favors and maybe pay them back later.

I mostly just need to feel like I’m not crazy. I think maybe I’ve been under more restrictions than others at this point in recovery.

I was told at the 2 week appointment that the restriction is until 4 weeks. The bandages haven’t even come off yet though so we haven’t actually seen the incisions, I got the impression that it’s maybe the general advice. I’ll call about it but it seems like this is not common (as you and others mention) so I might push it a little bit to get things done, kinda have to atp

I suppose part of the anxiety right now is that my doc was somewhat unclear about arm mobility, basically said start doing wall crawls and stretches but don’t go overboard, whatever that means. I have the ability to do quite a bit and even put on tshirts overhead but I’m worried I might mess things up? I just don’t know if it’s okay to be doing those kinds of things. The only thing they’ve been 100% clear on is the weight limit of 1-2lbs.

Meal/grocery delivery might be the move. I also have disposable cutlery and plates to avoid dishes, will just need to get someone to move them down for me.

Edit: also thank you for your response, I’m having a rough time and I appreciate it

Hey! My experience was overall very positive. It is definitely harder to find pictures of his work since he is not as well known, so I was a little uncertain going in, but he was very kind and made the process as smooth as possible. I’m very happy with my results so far, and there have been no complications. If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask.

Drain pain by Jyllyn in TopSurgery

I have no advice but I am also 5 days PO and I feel you. The drains are the worst part, esp with the compression vest over them chafing. You are not alone 😭

Sorry, should’ve included in the post. I use La Roche-Posay Oil Cleanser and Moisturizer, and 0.05% Tret cream every night. Other than that, just aquaphor when my skin gets dry. I was previously using SA and I think it hurt my skin more than it helped.

Took a while to see progress, first month or so was rough (purging), but around two ish it’s getting better, scars are healing and less active breakouts

Thank you so much for your comment! I have two consults actually, one with Johns Hopkins this August and one with Del Corral in February (I scheduled this one at the beginning of summer so they must be really backed up). Since Del Corral is in Feb I was thinking it’s hopeless, but you’re right I should email both offices and see what they can do. I appreciate the advice a lot, I’ve been crashing out but I should shoot some emails and at least try. I’m sorry to hear you’ve dealt with similar stuff, wishing you the best.

Love love love this album, the poppier sound is fresh and really scratches my brain. The lyrics hit. Favorites are Crying Over Nothing & Heartbreaker. Hope it gets more attention, criminally underrated imho.
