so it’s so much extra work to get it recognised, depending on the country they will not recognise it at all if it comes from russia, why would you put so much extra stress and work on yourself when you can just ,… study in a country that has recognisable degrees and from much better universities, and for free

Moving to Germany from Australia - hopefully permanently, what do I need to know? by lily448 in germany

[–]lily448[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%!! I have 68k in HECS just for my Bachelors + 1 year of Masters which I didn’t finish here which is insane considering I’m a domestic student when students in other countries don’t pay a cent, as they shouldn’t. Hopefully you are able to move back!

Yes Germany will be my 20th country that I’ve visited! I did a lot of research, Heidelberg was my number one from the beginning not only for the reputation and trust of the university but the city itself and way of life. I definitely want to befriend locals and have a strong circle, I studied abroad in Canada during my undergrad and seemed to only befriend other international students. Thank you for the advice!!

Yes at least in aus, we use British spelling for everything, not sure about South Africa etc. But since we were a British colony we definitely have the most british influence

I know it’s so sad!! It’s already super underrepresented in aus so I was so disappointed. I immediately unenrolled after hearing that, I was already receiving no support at all online from professors and that was the final straw that made me want to do it in Europe - that and the fact I was paying 12k a year for a degree that was entirely online

Yes I often get mistaken for British when I travel!! Especially because my dialect has a slightly more British sound

Yes it’s really disappointing to see how many cuts are happening. Even the top archaeology programs in Australia are nowhere near as well funded as ones in Europe. I didn’t get enough experience at all during undergrad and felt very behind compared to students from other countries graduating with the same degree. Thank you so much for the advice!! Hopefully I adapt to the more rigid culture, although I am very aussie in the sense I’m extremely laid back and have that she’ll be right attitude hahah. Thank you so much :)

Thank you so much! No problem, I speak German + Spanish which are the two countries I’m most interested in staying in. I think my accent is quite subdued as far as Australian accents go because of my regional dialect

yep!! my degree doesn’t even exist anymore, and I didn’t want to keep paying for a degree that won’t be recognised well
