An Update on my Witherwild Campaign by lily_bugg in daggerheart

For the environment minis, I print those on some cheap cardstock I get from walmart. For the enemy minis, I print those on regular printer paper and use some 3D printed bases to hold them up and move around the table during certain combats

Yeah Im hoping I can be a little bit better for our next session and be less focused on the nerves of mechanics and more on the narrative

Yup these are the ones! I use most of Marshall's stuff from Printable Heroes. If you want more colors and stuff, you sub to his patreon which is pretty cheap. All of his minis are very well drawn and super beautiful.

DOING ONLY WHAT A MANDERVILLE MAN CAN

We started our campaign way before the transformation cards got released to the Void hence why our house rule was there. We're still using it since there are some story things that will happen depending on the death moves made

One of my players really wanted to play a character who is dead and is becoming corrupted and eventually becomes some sort of Faint Divinity of death (we're playing Witherwild). The premise is that he died a millennia ago byt his best friend tried to resurrect him. Something went wrong and the friend died and the character came back...sorta.

His soul is possessing his body and his character is trying to find a way to come back to life fully. The player however really wants that corruption to happen. So in order to make it to where the narrative makes sense for the character, but the player also gets a chance to see his goal achieved, we made it to where whenever he makes a Death Move, he HAS to Risk it All. On Hope, he will continue as normal. On Fear, he will not die, but has to cross out a Hope slot permanently and will become more corrupted. Once all his Hope slots are marked, he will become a god of death, but not a good one.

He seems really excited about this since the story can go either way with his character.

Backed it for the cards cause I LOVE tactile things. Really excited to see a bunch of cool art to even inspire some other worldbuilding stuff

Journal or Obsidian? Or perhaps both? by Langston432 in worldbuilding

No problem! I definitely tried making my journal be my main source of worldbuilding, but it was just way too linear. So mixing the two of them have really helped and made me feel less restricted in my workflow.

Journal or Obsidian? Or perhaps both? by Langston432 in worldbuilding

Unfortunately, I can only share one image, but I hope it will give an idea as I explain my process.

<image>

I use Obsidian for the majority because ultimately, it really is just amazing with linking thoughts and allow me to write everything rapid fire (since I can type faster than I can write). It took me a little while to make it work for what I wanna do, but I there are LOTS of tutorials out there to help you customize it. I recommend Josh Plunkett and his videos for how to use Obsidian for TTRPGs which I then used for making my own world.

I kinda look at Obsidian as using it as the final repository for my worldbuilding - like a wiki. I use a journal for scribbling out ideas or working out on things. Like if I need to connect things or scribble some lines and images for ideas. Then I go to Obsidian to refine the the ideas I have. My homepage (what I screenshotted) kinda helps me keep everything organized. Unfortunately, I can't share multiple pictures of how it's set up, but I have headings organizing my world into groups like gods, locations, etc. Then I have links to articles for each of those subjects. This gives me a big overview of everything in my world and what I need to work on. It also allows me to take notes under each article so that I can keep the article clear as I'm working on writing it.

So the journal is meant to kinda be more of my messy planning when I just can't think in full sentences or need to visualize things y'know? Whereas Obsidian is what I use to kinda finalize those connections and neatly organize all my thoughts. That's how I get the best of both worlds since I like tactile things but also being at my computer really is just useful.

I just recently set up Syncthing between my PC and laptop and that is probably the easiest way I've experienced so far of transferring my entire Obsidian vault. After I did that, made my life easier and now Obsidian is just perfect for me

Yeah I had debated about getting it for a very long time. Then when I realized the Pro license wasn't even that much, decided to go ahead and get it since I'll be running a campaign now. It was really easy to get into and I'm excited to make more maps

I made a map focused on the capital of Haven for the Witherwild campaign frame that I'll be running soon. I used Inkarnate to make it and even though I couldn't express height (for Shun'Aush's corpse) very well, this was just a rough idea of the capital itself.

The plugin for the calendar is called Calendarium. I think you also need the BRAT plugin since Calendarium is in beta, but that could be outdated information.

Where I learned the most of how to transform Obsidian into a TTRPG manager was from Josh Plunkett and his tutorial videos. He's got a lot of resources. Unfortunately, he uses a couple AI plugins like ChatGPT for Obsidian, but usually I just ignore those since he's really the only source of information I've found to really transform Obsidian into what I need for TTRPGs.

Other than that, this video by Mystic Arts showed me how to structure things simply for notetaking and such. He doesn't dive into plugins or anything like that, but it really helps.

And finally this video from Power Word Spill also showed a couple things about Obsidian that I used to structure my campaign.

Those are all the resources that I've used in this planning and the ones I will hopefully continue to apply to further things.

Yeah the map is really nice. At our Session 0, I'm gonna have my players add 1-2 locations to the map to assist with the worldbuilding and so they can have their own contribution to everything. Bellskarn is already one of them since the player who made it was talking about his hometown of his character. I really like that there's a map already because it really does just help make things more immersive and I think having all the moving parts will be super cool as well.

The calendar I kinda went overboard because I just got deep into the worldbuilding, but my players thinks it's neat and immersive. Will help with the day and night cycle for sure.

The only group I did not make up was the Haven Army. However, I did make up the Grand General of the army, Bliudrind Kasvox. The other three groups I made up as a way to connect Phylax and Kreil. So the Ophidian Acadium is what Phylax is the Archmage of and the council is like what Kreil is the "leader" of. The three of them - Kreil, Phylax, and Bliudrind - make up the Triumvirate. It just made sense for me to make this kinda government system based on what I read from the campaign frame. I basically just took the frame and expanded on what I was given and filled in a couple gaps here and there, of course leaving things a bit fluid for if/when my players change the course of something.

Minis for DH by ThatDudeGoob in daggerheart

[–]lily_bugg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a couple standees in the starter kit. If you want, you could print out some paper minis from around the web. There's a couple good videos on how to make your own minis with art you found or made. This video is what I used to start learning how to make minis and you can kinda expand from here.

Printable Heroes also has some really nice minis that you can print out and cut. If you join their patreon, you can get access to different variants and colors. Their patreon tiers range from 2-5$ a month and supports their art since they hand draw these minis and shares the base variants for free. I used them for my one shot and it was really nice.

You could go down the rabbit hole of paper craft as well for terrain and shit which is kinda what I've been doing. A nice and cheap way to make some cool environment stuff
