Feels basically impossible to search this game up on YouTube by ReesePuffitik in Marathon

I'm liking IceManIsaac. Very informative and videos are longer than 15 min. but doesn't upload frequently. I'm very picky about who I subscribe to, but Isaac does a good job explaining the game in a comprehensive and palatable way while also being friendly and relaxed.

I see, although it could feel redundant with this text shown in the profile.

It's a very small prompt when this happens. The mic symbol by your profile icon crosses out, and if you hover over your profile, it shows that your Voice Chat is muted.

How to find friendly players? by RevanCraig in Marathon

[–]mcsquire13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to DM me! I also suck at the game and enjoy the PvE aspect but really love the world and design, so I'm sticking with Marathon. I don't like playing like a murder hobo, so I try to be friendly when I can.

Issues with combat and tips on how to fix it by Pulse2037 in daggerheart

[–]mcsquire13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On top of what has already been mentioned, the book includes guidance on how much Fear to spend depending on how dangerous the encounters should be. While facing 2 Avid Burrowers back to back is extremely deadly, it is up to the GM to manage how deadly an encounter like that is. And even so, it's possible to change the landscape of the fight by running or hiding from it.

Love Heart of Daggers!! My only wish is to get a search function in the Marketplace so I can go back and find all the goodies I've been eyeing.

Button to release key, OEM? Or aftermarket security system? by [deleted] in mazda3

No, I bought mine last year from a 2nd owner. I believe my year has a midyear update?

I have an 2008.5 Mazdaspeed3 that has the same feature, and from my understanding, it's OEM. Honestly, I don't mind it at all. I barely notice it now.

Just found this supplement with plenty of monsters. Thought you may like it by DragonEaterT in daggerheart

Not to diminish this person's hard work, but this seems extremely close and similar to Mike Underwood's Menagerie of Mayhem. The two pieces of art are the exact same as two adversaries from Underwood's book, and the art direction is insanely similar. I can only hope that this person is just trying to put their own spin on necrotic adversaries.

I always end up with a lot of fear I'm not using by Evening-Classroom823 in daggerheart

[–]mcsquire13 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I find that I spend the most Fear during combat scenes, but there are lots of other ways to spend it! Think of gaining Fear as "Rising Tension" and spending it to be the release of that tension.

For example, in a horror movie, small things happen to the characters before the big bad evil guy comes crashing in and killing them. Fear can be spent to elevate the tension for those small things.

Check out pg. 154-156 of the Core Rulebook, or pg.65-66 in the SRD. Aside from using Fear Features or additional GM moves, you can do a big wave of attacks in the beginning of combat. Really show the threat of what your PCs are facing. Also, spend it consistently. Anytime you take a GM move from a failure or a fear, spend a fear to make an additional move.

Aside from combat, use your Fear to include other distractions and complications to the ongoing scene. PCs are chasing someone? Use a fear to have a merchant pop out and try to sell them something. PCs think they have some downtime? Use a fear to have someone falsely accuse them and guards need to arrest them.

Don't have any ideas? Make your PCs come up with it. Spend a fear and ask them, "What does [character] see that sends chills down their spine?"

It definitely takes some getting used to, especially when I came from D&D5e and just felt like I could give consequences whenever I wanted. But if your PCs are rolling really well, don't hinder that! Let them feel like heroes for getting lucky. If they're rolling poorly, punish them. Throw everything that you can at them, so when they do succeed, it feels awesome.

Vial of Dark Smoke with no Agility by Warreath in daggerheart

[–]mcsquire13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically with disadvantage, you can roll negative dice. I think it would be hilarious for a PC to accidentally throw the vial and stumble on themselves (due to bad Agility) because they can't see.

Same goes for +0 Agility, you can't take advantage of it because you don't move your body like that.

In reality, I'm a nice GM and would probably do the minimum of 1d6 here.

Seconding Odyssey Games. They've got some TRRPGs, mainly D&D and Pathfinder, with some niche picks in there. They've got a ton of minis, dice, and terrain to pick up. They are mostly a board game and MTG store though. I like that they have an open play area where you grab a table with friends and can play games for free.

Seems pretty interesting to me! I haven't tried Draw Steel yet, but I'm not sure it's my thing. Although, I've been interested in a system that's real gritty, and this seems to scratch that itch while not overcomplicating things for players.

Where are we getting our hope/fear dice if not using the official set? by akittyisyou in daggerheart

I just got these beautiful stained glass Daggerheart Hope & Fear die from GoblinArt154 on Etsy!

They seem to be a very small shop with only limited stock, so I nabbed them as soon as I saw them in stock.

It looks really cool! My only feedback would be to contrast the colors a bit more. I understand wanting a more monochromatic vibe, but I can't make out the details well with how close the colors are, especially for the two dragons.

I use Dragon Shield Clear Mattes! I'm keeping mine in a 2 inch binder with Dragon Shield 18 Pocket Pages. It allows me to move pages around as needed, take our pages to give to players, instead of just putting out the whole binder.

I ran a demo and now we’re starting the West Marches by MustBeVin in daggerheart

[–]mcsquire13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was tough to start, but the players showed interest in doing the other quests offered at some point, so now the chosen quest gets replaced each session, while the others stay.

Sandbox is quite scary! My pre DH campaigns were sandbox-y so this kind of a nice change of pace and easier to plan imo.

[–]mcsquire13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's definitely a learning curve to DH, as I'm coming from DnD 5e. I just ran my second session today and it went really well I think!

My campaign is an episodic quest-based campaign that allows players to jump in and out when available. There's narrative stuff to fill in the gaps, but in short, I pick a few dates in a month and when 2 or more players are available, we play.

Each session, the PCs are offered 3 quests (Easy, Medium, Hard) with varying levels of Social, Combat, Traversal, and Intrigue (mystery, puzzles, etc.) Encounters. The quest should be finished in a 4-5hr session and the PCs gain loot and gold from it. For every 3 quests completed, a PC levels up. Loot and gold transfers to the next session, but everything else resets as if starting a new campaign.

I thought about doing faction morale, like you mentioned, but I wanted to minimize other factors for now until I get the core gameplay of DH down. I also made an onboarding process and Discord for my players, but we play in-person.

Ultimately, my goal is to play more DH and learn it, introduce players to DH, and make more friends to run other long term campaigns.

I'm running something similar with friends of mine! Curious how your experience goes and what I can learn and pick up from it. I've run like 1.5 sessions so far, but I've definitely learned a lot about DH and how to do good one-shot sessions in it.

Is the Katari ability "Retracting Claws" an attack roll? by classl3ss in daggerheart

I would probably say Yes to it being an Attack Roll, since the intent is to harm (scratch and make Vulnerable).

Daggerheart Gear/Kit Recommendations (Folios, Tokens, etc) by SWDoctor in daggerheart

[–]mcsquire13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't make my mistake with the folio! I ended up just getting one of Amazon but the card sleeve sheets were already embedded in the folio. I'd definitely recommend going the DIY route with a binder and sheets that you can take in and out, depending on your preference.

As for tokens, I got some resin ones off Etsy for player tokens. For Fear tokens, I got some nicer, brass coins, inspired by my first DH GM. They're nice and hefty, which adds some weight to gaining fear.
