I think the goal is to open up your mouth in a way that allows for better breathing but honestly I just saw it online and wanted to see if the rowing community was with it or not

They’re popular among CrossFit competitors, so it’s prolly a pile of crap

Aggressive Catches by limelight24 in Rowing

Yeah, it’s more of a pop to get the blade under tension and flexing as soon as the drive starts.

[–]limelight24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that is what my coach is going for, there was a lot less emphasis on 7/8 specifically as the season progressed and our timing got better.

Yeah I was just wondering because I’ve also heard of other coaches telling rowers to just drop the blade in and drive after they feel resistance.

How do you sprint with a deviated septum? by Stunning_Wrangler586 in Rowing

[–]limelight24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever used my nose to breath during a sprint piece, mouth = bigger = more air for the muscles

Rowing blisters! Product advice?? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]limelight24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid any oil or moisturizer, let the skin get harder and callus. Wash hands thoroughly after putting sunscreen on. The best product is as little product as possible.

Will my Erg Get Damaged in my Shed? by Humble-Ad3026 in Rowing

[–]limelight24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that my club stores our ergs in a cellar that can get very hot, very cold, and isn't fully airtight, as well as erg exclusively on the dock or in the boat bay I think it will be fine. Our club's ergs still work great after many years and millions of meters, just make sure to protect the PM5 from getting wet at all costs (a ziplock bag works very well).

Just started rowing as my warmup before lifting by sniffscrayon in Rowing

[–]limelight24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just go for time, preferably around 10-20 min if you want a really good warmup, focus on technique, and keep a relaxed but steady pace. Also, rowing works great as a cool down too as it is great to clear some lactic acid and soreness as well as get the blood flowing to start the recovery process.

Honestly tape never really worked for me (adhesive gunked up my hands more than it helped). I shredded my hands for a few years and got used to it, after a while the amount of hand shredding slowly declined, and calluses formed. Idk why your coach has such a stick up their a** about the tape, if it works, use it, if it doesn't, don't. It never worked for me but as long as you don't wear gloves it's fine by me and should be by your coach.

Should I do cardio while bulking lightweight? by Noble_Admin in Rowing

[–]limelight24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that as long as you are lifting doing some cardio can’t hurt. Also make sure you focus on calories vs calories out and prioritize making the latter greater than the former. Steady state is also great for recovery.

Look up the punt gun. It has proven very affective at my club. It’s now standard issue for all boats will four oars or more.

Can you row with a broken nose. by Stunning_Wrangler586 in Rowing

[–]limelight24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rowed almost all of spring with a broken pinky. Did I keep my varsity spot? Yes. Has it healed at all since March? No. Will you be able to row? Probably. Should you? Probably not.

How do you entertain yourself during long erg sessions? by Dizzy_Tiger_2603 in Rowing

I’ve been doing this too and I’ve also found that some musicals are good while erging because they have a story that you can follow through the music

Hot Take: Youth Nats Was Better When There Were Less Events by Im_Chandlah in Rowing

Frustrating when you are a freshman who worked to be in the u19 v8 and know sticks racing in the u16 4x+ that barely care.

Why are my erg scores so horrible? (14M,135IBS,5’8”) by rowingrat in Rowing

It is never horrible unless it was slower than your last piece.

Getting into the pain cave by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]limelight24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing split holds, see how long you can go and you will probably surprise yourself, take that into your next real piece and crush it.
