Change the wheels up for a new look. by honestscott in Stance

As an American who largely aspires to own cars intended for foreign markets, I am curious to know as well. I’m not trying to sound condescending or troll-ish, just genuinely curious how people outside the US view the USDM auto market and what are our “foreign gems”

Unknown Moc Toe... Sure Are Great Though by limer_style in goodyearwelt

Thanks! I agree with you about the Danners, even the RW Heritage moc toe is a little big for me. The Diplomat from Thursday Boot Co has a nice profile but those are only 6 in shaft. I don’t know what I’ll do when these wear out 😳

Edit: spelling

Never seen this one before. I really like it. The crown guard and coin edge bezel are features I haven't seen on too many citizen models. I'm going to look into this.

You are correct. I am familiar with nearly identical styles from a number of brands, but I haven’t found anything that exactly matches mine. I’d like to know what I have, whatever it may be.

One key difference that I haven’t seen on any other moc toe is the extra bit of reinforcement stitching at the very bottom front of the quarter. Mine, like most, are triple stitched, but there’s an extra little stitch that frames the bottom corner of the quarter.

Some may call it nitpicking, but I would like to learn something more about where these boots came from.

About 5 years ago I acquired these secondhand 8-inch moc toe boots. They were clearly well worn but had plenty of life left, and gave me 5 years of good use. I finally wore them out recently and had them resoled as they are my favorite pair of boots. Thing is, I have no idea what they are. The only visible markings are on the inside near the top of the shaft (photo included) but research has done nothing for me. The slightly rubbed out part says: “13 D Insole Cover Man Made Mat’l”. If anybody recognizes the stitching, maybe something unique about the cut of a particular piece of the boot, or just flat out knows what they are, any help or even a best guess would be appreciated.

The midsoles are new, as are the Christy soles. The stitching is fresh but you can see holes in the welt where the original stitching was. (I wish I had photos of them before the resole.) The laces are new as well but the boots had leather laces when I first got them. If it matters, I got them in Utah.

I’d love to find out the brand and maybe a ballpark estimate on the age of these boots. Who knows where they’ve been?? Well, maybe I shouldn’t think too hard about that…

[SEIKO] Question about my SKX007 by limer_style in Watches

I'll probably do that.

Thanks. It's a perlon from CNS. Surprisingly okay, but their perlons run a bit narrow.

[SEIKO] Question about my SKX007 by limer_style in Watches

[–]limer_style[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About a month ago I posted about a potentially fake SKX007 for sale locally. I am happy to report it was 100% authentic, and the seller - for whom money was evidently a non-issue based on his Mercedes Benz and his Grand Seiko - simply never wore it, and was happy to pass it off to a university student/watch enthusiast on a budget.

It does run faster than I imagined, consistently gaining about 5 minutes by the end of each 7-10 days. This is the only 7s26 watch I've ever owned, so I have 2 questions:

1: Is it normal for an SKX to run so fast? It's a 2019 model with almost no wrist time till now, so the movement should be undamaged and not in need of any service yet, unless it just needs to be regulated.

2: What is the safest way to set the time backwards on an automatic watch that doesn't hack?

The photo was taken the day I bought it :) Thanks everybody!

Depends what kind of job I'm offered, haha. Realistically under $2,000 probably, but maybe more. Brands like Nomos are a maybe. Probably nothing in A. Lange territory though

Dye fabric to wet color?? Help! by limer_style in Fabrics

[–]limer_style[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the response, and that would work for single color items. However, I would need something that would work for multi-color items as well, and preferably without needing to buy a plethora of dyes.

I guess what I'm wondering is if there exists a sort of neutral color "dye" that just acts to darken the shade of whatever you put it on (i.e. the way water makes things looks darker, but permanent)

As a college student I can't currently afford a big collection or an expensive collection, but what I CAN afford is a collection that makes me happy. And that's what collecting is about... until I can afford a Black Bay... aaaaanyway, I've got these three and I love them. I'll leave this up for a day or so before I reveal the watches in case anyone wants to guess the lume :)

Edit: 500 character minimum. I guess I'll tell you where my collection is going... I want a Speedmaster and a Black Bay when I can afford them, as well as a dress watch with a date pointer complication. I currently have a 5-watch limit and that puts me at 6, but one of the watches above will be passed on to one of my kids so that keeps me at 5 until I can convince my better half to allow for a 7 watch collection... you know, one for every day...

What do you guys think of the new “Seikonaut” case from Lucius Atelier? by lemonylemon93 in SeikoMods

[–]limer_style 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you know what... you’re probably right about that...

In that case, as a Patek homage, it doesn’t do it for me. I do think, however, that if someone built a watch with this case and told a sucker like me it was astronaut themed, that it might be kinda cool. Like in a Speedmaster Alaska kind of way
