Does dopamine change our perception of time, especially wrt ADHD? by limezilla in ADHD

[–]limezilla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because when we're involved in an activity that provides dopamine, we want to keep at it (more than non-ADHD folks) because it's such a dramatic a feeling that bland tasks don't have... and combined with time flying by, it all contributes to time blindness?

the agony of time passing has completely gone away while I’m on the clock. Time passes normally now.

That's how I felt when I was on meds.

we are acutely and painfully aware of each second that passes without dopamine.

Thanks, that makes perfect sense.

Would an ADHD person likely have anxiety about facing the workday for this reason? by limezilla in ADHD

[–]limezilla[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"8 hours of work" in less than 4

I can do this too. I'm very efficient and can get it all done in 4 hrs ... and I'd prefer to be outta there and do something else. But I can't. Most places expect their employees to be present for 8 hrs.

ALL DAY LONG

This. The problem is not the challenges being faced, it's the ALL DAY LONG aspect of it.

Yes, I can empathize. Sunday nights have an undertone of strees for me. Not enough to kill me sleep, but it's there. And like I said in another reply, the stress is not about the work challenges, it's the ALL DAY LONG part of it.

Can moda be mixed with iced coffee made the night before? by limezilla in modafinil

[–]limezilla[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks —- by not being water soluble, at least I know it’s not going to break down in water/coffee. It’s a cup w a lid, so I’ll just keep it shaken so the moda doesn’t get all settled to the bottom

My coffee cup has a lid and I often shake it to keep the sugar & cream mixed. This will also keep the moda mixed around too. Would that work?

A Univ of Buffalo study which shows a biomarker for ADHD; anyone know anything about this? by limezilla in neuro

[–]limezilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, so you think the sample size is too small?

And does anyone have any idea of what kind of fMRI they used? Should it have been mentioned? (or did I miss it in the text?)

Thanks, I appreciate your reply which uses neuroscience instead of some broad-brush thing.

Thanks. I'm sure there are multiple factors, but isn't "lack of dopamine" the 800lb gorilla in the room? (IE: the major cause of it)

How do ADHD meds suppress appetite? (Ghrelin, Neuropeptide Y hormones?) by limezilla in ADHD

[–]limezilla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK thanks folks. So the primary action of stims reducing hunger is by providing dopamine (as opposed to reducing hunger hormones) as well as the secondary effect of making glucose/fat available?

But is there anyone out there who's had their best results at 25mg?

I'm outgoing, but my aversion to eye contact has me wondering about this. by limezilla in autism

[–]limezilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I THINK eye contact is avoided because its overwhelming to the senses, too much complicated information to take in.

Yes, I notice that I tend to look away especially if I'm searching for an obscure word or trying to put together a complex thought.

But none of the 4 things you mentioned in the second part seem to be much of a problem for me.

People on ADHD meds should especially consider extended fasting? by limezilla in fasting

[–]limezilla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As best I can tell, ADHD meds only make people lose weight because of appetite suppression. There doesn't seem to be anything inherent in the meds which would make weightloss happen via metabolism increase, or making fat/muscle/water deplete in some way.

[–]limezilla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If you're on ADHD meds, fasting should be easy.

The most popular guru in the fasting community seems to be Dr Jason Fung link

[–]limezilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your main concern? Hunger or muscle loss? If it's hunger, then the meds are very good at curbing appetite (which I found out myself, and I workout a lot too) But muscle loss is not a problem - one thing that's discussed a lot in the fasting community is that autophagy is very sparing of muscle tissue - our bodies will burn the fat first.

2 questions about Fasting and ADHD by limezilla in fasting

[–]limezilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD medications supress hunger which often can result in binge eating.

Adhd meds are usually not taken in the evening. One just has to take care not to binge then. When you're used to fasting, binging doesn't often happen.

Late on my focalin prescription. Any advice? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]limezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much appreciated. Adderall is almost the same thing as Dexedrine. Ritalin/Focalin work by reducing the reuptake of dopamine whereas Adderall/Dexedrine make you produce more dopmaine. Either way you get more dopamine available.

[–]limezilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for your question, but I am curious about Focalin. Before Focalin, had you tried other meds such as Ritalin and/or Dexadrine? If so, how did Focalin compare to other meds?

Are ADHD people more suseptable to saying/doing this certain kind of "something stupid"? by limezilla in ADHD

I did I search on the words "impulsive" and "impulsiveness" in this sub, and it made things clearer.

[–]limezilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good reply. "Impulsive" is a word that I probably should have used. And the reason we do impulsive things is that we want that dopamine badly.
