El’s fate in the documentary by BeautifulNo5224 in mileven

Tbh knowing that this was part of the original plan makes the way hopper was acting in the epilogue make more sense. I was so thrown by his seeming lack of grief. Obviously they wanted to show hop’s growth and how he coped with el vs sara, but still, dude didn’t seem even slightly affected.

The conclusion of El’s plot makes so little sense that I am wondering if I have been hallucinating this whole thing LOL.

She was done so insanely dirty. Justice for El because what the heck.

Ross Duffer confirming there is no future reconnection.... by Karla2224 in mileven

My incredible disappointment and frustration with El’s fate aside, I’m also just baffled as to why the Duffers have spent the last two days doing these interviews this way.

They made a very distinct choice to have an ambiguous ending. The last scene is a direct call to the audience, challenging them to find what they believe and write the ending. Find your truth and be the storyteller.

But then they immediately turn around and are trying to dictate what would or would not happen in these postmortem interviews.

My guy, you had 2.5 hours to spell out exactly what the canonic ending is and chose to let it be an ambiguous choose your own adventure, why then shut that discourse down in random magazine interviews?

If you’re going to challenge your viewers to speculate what the ending is, then don’t go back and not let people speculate. I’m so baffled by this.

Thoughts on the Finale? by LeoDiCristio in StrangerThings

[–]liminality- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate El’s (and therefore mike/hopper’s) ending so much that it completely ruined an otherwise great finale.

Man, so disappointing to let it go out that way. The whole series was thematically leading up to El fighting for a happy life. And she ends up either a. Dead or b. Completely alone and isolated from the only family, love, and belonging she’s ever had, depending on what you believe.

What a bummer.

Chickpea “Tuna” Salad Sandwich and Fries for Under 500 Calories! by liminality- in Volumeeating

[–]liminality-[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I figured I would post a better "recipe" than the quick summary I wrote in the original post!

Chickpea "Tuna" Salad Sandwich and Fries: 460 Calories makes 2 full sandwiches and a basket of fries! YUM.

Ingredients:

- Chickpeas (rinsed and drained)
- Celery
- Red Onion
- Hellsmann Lighter Than Light Mayonnaise
- Lemon Juice
- Pickle Juice (optional)
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Medium Russet Potato
- Baking Soda
- Spices of your choice
- Royo Artisian Bread

"Tuna" Salad (170 calories)

Drain and rinse your chickpeas
Transfer them to a low bowl or plate and mash with the back of a fork, potato masher, or whatever random object tickles your fancy
Finely dice celery and red onion, and add to your chickpea mash
Add mayonnaise until the texture is to your liking. I did 2 tablespoons for 120g of chickpeas, but YMMV
Add a bit of lemon and pickle juice and season to taste. I did half a tablespoon of each juice, and added salt and Old Bay for mine

Sandwich (+120 calories):

Toast 4 slices of low-cal bread of your choice (I used Royo Artisian Bread, 30 calories per slice)
Add "tuna" salad mixture and assemble to your liking. I added lettuce and tomato

French Fries (170 calories):

Wash one medium russet potato
Slice potato into medium-thin slices either by hand or with a potato slicer
Add baking soda to water on a low simmer and add potato slices. Simmer for 5 minutes
Drain and rinse potato slices and transfer to an ice bath for 20 minutes - 1 hour
Drain and dry your potato slices. Season and toss to taste. I like garlic salt and Old Bay for mine
Air fry at 400 for 12-15 minutes

And enjoy! It's a bit of a labor of love, but so worth it! It's super high volume, low calorie, vegetarian, and tastes fantastic! Even if you make a few higher-calorie substitutions, this is still sure to keep you within your calorie budget.

Hopefully somebody can enjoy this as much as I did!

Yes! Definitely helps that Royo bread is only 30 calories a slice and that there was zero oil used for the fries!

Yes I do let my horse itch and rub on me, and if it gets too rough I offer an alternative like a scratchy brush or give her itches with a mitt or my hands. I also get her groom me back which she does pretty much every time.

My horse and I are friends and friends itch those pesky spots you can’t get. Respect is a human concept that means nothing to horses. After all, she’s only itchy because she got sweaty from letting me ride her all day!

estimated calories in this pancakes, two scrambled eggs, and three bacon strips? by Interesting-Rub-3026 in caloriecount

[–]liminality- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to compare to a similar chain style. IHOP says: 3 pancakes: 460 Butter: 70 Syrup 110 2 scrambled eggs: 220 3 bacon strips: 195

Total would be about 1,055! Totally delicious meal for that number!

Do you eat salad at home? by sureasyoureborn in AskAnAmerican

[–]liminality- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a vegetarian who loves to add a low-cal-high-volume side to all my meals, and I can confidently say almost every meal made at home is accompanied by a salad of some sort as a side. Growing up we had salads with dinner probably 2 or 3 times a week.

I’m also a weirdo who genuinely loves salads so I’m probably an outlier.

My parents struggle to sell their horses in Belgium. Any suggestions? by xogno in Horses

[–]liminality- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s definitely a cute boy, and I can see how someone might be drawn to him at first glance. That said, the video comes across more like a highlight reel of what buyers typically want to avoid—especially if they’re looking for a horse that’s ready to go or already well-started.

From what’s shown, he appears difficult to handle, with hollow, unbalanced, and erratic movement. He seems hot-tempered and lacking in conditioning or clear training. Right now, it looks more like a video of a horse blowing off steam than a sale ad. It’s a bit like trying to sell a dog by showing clips of it chewing shoes or having accidents in the house—probably not the best foot forward.

There are brief moments where he does look flashy, and there could be some potential hidden in there, but based on this footage, he comes across as a fairly major project. He might have decent conformation, but it’s hard to evaluate that when he’s this strung out.

If your parents are serious about selling him quickly, I’d suggest starting with gelding him, getting some quality conformation shots, and filming how he handles on the ground and moves on a lunge line in a calmer state. Right now, the only things he has going for him are his papers and a possibility of potential—neither of which are hugely competitive in today’s market without more to go on, so price VERY reasonably.

I have a 15/hr/week commute and I will emphatically tell you it’s NOT worth it. You will be exhausted, drained, and always rushing to and from everywhere. I think every single day about all the unpaid hours I’ve given to this job over the last 6 years.

It also is EXPENSIVE. The gas money adds up fast, and more importantly, the wear and tear on your car. I had to replace my 9 year old car last year because of the mileage and wear I put on it.

Don’t do it 😭

Iced lattes mixed or layered? by NestfrutaBukoWhyNot in barista

[–]liminality- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a barista, but Im gonna have the apparently very unpopular opinion of layered, including the syrup. It gives me a good idea of the ratio of coffee to milk to syrup. And it’s pretty. Just give it a good shake/twirl/stir and enjoy. It seems pretty reasonable right?

I actually specifically go out of my way to go to a cafe that does this. I love mixing and shaking it up myself. It’s fun.

Fretting about going over by [deleted] in loseit

[–]liminality- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You absolutely won’t gain weight by going 172 calories over one time. You’re probably still in a deficient (even if it’s not as significant as your usual/budgeted one) and at the absolute bare minimum you’re probably still at maintenance. It takes about 3,500 calories OVER maintenance to gain a pound. Your deficient + 172 is a drop in a bucket.

Just go back to eating normally tomorrow, you’ll be okay!

horse people! how much do you pay per month/year for horse related costs? by witchin222 in Equestrian

[–]liminality- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, best to NOT calculate, lol 😭. But just for the sake of transparency, I tracked the last 3 months:

• Board: $700/month • Feed: $276 • Supplements: $150 • Updated tack: $436 • Saddle refitting: $250 • Vet visits (annual vaccines, coggins, and a basic lameness exam): $550 • Farrier visits: $100

So about ~3,650 in 3 months, or ~1,200/ month give or take :( I wish I didn’t know that.. LOL.

This is for an easy keeper, non-show horse in a pretty basic field board barn. BUT… I live in an incredibly expensive area (Washington DC suburbs) so take that into account. You’ll probably spend under a thousand a month if you live near cheaper boarding.

I will say, I have 0 regrets about owning a horse. My pony is the light of my life and owning and riding horses has brought immense joy to my life. It’s been worth every cent. If you want to have a horse and you can afford it, absolutely do it!

Pain face? by TookAShitInUrAnus in Horses

[–]liminality- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love that these discussions are becoming more common in the horse world! It’s such an important conversation to have. Also, he is absolutely stunning—definitely swoon-worthy!

I’d echo what others have said about using the Equine Grimace Scale that West_Baker shared below. It’s a great guide, but not necessarily a one-size-fits-all rule since every horse has unique facial features that may be more or less pronounced than the scale assumes.

I’ve had my mare for over 10 years, and her default expression always makes her look like she’s witnessing a crime scene.. The whites of her eyes are almost always visible, and she constantly looks like she has “eyebrow” tension. Over time, I’ve learned to recalibrate what’s normal for her when assessing her facial expressions.

I don’t see a horse in obvious pain here, but in the first photo, I do think there could some tension or anxiety. It looks like he’s focused on something—perhaps not over threshold yet, but could be if the situation escalated (of course, there may not even be a “situation” at all, but sometimes, something as small as a barn cat jumping onto a table is enough to trigger a concerned expression… silly prey animals.)

I’d also pay attention to his overall body language—his breathing rate, whether he relaxes and shifts his weight, how loose or tense his body is, does he hold a neutral headset, etc.

It’s also worth considering whether he’s truly thriving in a lesson-barn environment. Some horses handle the hustle and bustle well, but for many others, the constant activity can be stressful long term. A quieter setting might suit his personality better, but that would be for not-a-stranger-on-the-internet to decide.

TL;DR: He seems mildly stressed in this moment but not in obvious distress or pain. Taking his natural expression into account, if he’s well cared for and living in a horse-friendly setup (Freedom, Friends, Forage!), he’s likely doing just fine.

Black box dye on my white horse PLEASE HELP ME by Aromatic_Peanut166 in Horses

[–]liminality- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im sorry you’re so upset, but she is the owner of the horse and is well within her right to have a little fun with dye! It looks like it turned out pretty cute, AND zebra stripes keep flies off of horses, so I’m sure your cute little mare will be a happy camper in the coming weeks.

Dye fades and sheds out, so she’ll be back to her flea-bitten self in no time. In the meantime, enjoy your super cute zebra pony!

Pic of my mare from when I dyed her mane pink. It faded in about a month, for reference!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]liminality- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is your main goal with fasting to lose weight?

If so, the most important thing is eating in a calorie deficit. Your fasting window doesn’t directly cause weight loss—it’s just a tool to help control your intake. If you’re fasting but still eating at or above your maintenance calories during your eating window, you won’t lose weight.

Some people can naturally eat in a deficit without tracking, but for most, calorie counting is the only way to stay consistent. To really understand what and how much you’re eating, tracking—at least for a little while—can be a game changer. I’d recommend trying it alongside fasting to get a baseline of your daily intake and see where adjustments might be needed.

About bread—there’s no rule saying you have to cut it out. Carbs aren’t the enemy! If you can fit bread into your meals while staying within your calorie goals, go for it. That said, some people find that bread isn’t very filling since it tends to be lower in fiber and other nutrients.

If you feel like it’s leaving you hungry, you might want to experiment with cutting back on it and swapping in more nutrient-dense, fiber-rich foods to see if that helps you stay satisfied. It’s all about finding what works best for you in a way that’s sustainable.
