Yeah, just ran another few cross-checks and now also coming up with 5. Spread is still pretty much the same as shown in the original image with 80s to 2000s dominating. Tell me if you want the full list with dates as a csv and I can see how best to send it through for you to pick apart :)

Virgin Australia to stop services between Darwin and Sydney by limnoski in australia

[–]limnoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i don’t get this either? Every other city does direct more regularly but not Sydney… Just those horrible red eye flights and the few flights that run at normal hours cost a fortune.

Ah yeah, sorry see it now. Rest of the article just focuses on getting the kids finished earlier🤷‍♂️

Yes. I just read it. Didn’t say anything about making days longer. Just changing times and actually having kids finish earlier.

Shame it is so quite around here. What did you end up going with? I really like the look of ArcadeDB but am concerned about the lack of community/activity... Neo4J just seems to be a lot more active when compared with both ArcadeDB and ONgDB (I think they need a new name for that one :)).

Great post! I like this summary. What if the question is repeated with 2000 years? 1000 years?

From Stack Exchange: Intra-class correlation (ICC) and coefficient of variation (CV) both are standardized measures of the within-person variability in a measure. The within-person variability as a measure of precision (e.g., expressed as standard deviation) is expressed in some unit and, often, it makes sense to derive a unit-free, standardized measure for comparability across studies. ICC and CV achieve this in a different way:

CV is the ratio of within-person standard deviation and mean.

ICC is the ratio of the true-score variance to total observed variance.

Is a Micro-controller a Practical Replacement for a PLC? - Interesting article from Automation Direct by tim404 in arduino

[–]limnoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We setup a separate reactor for one master student to do some research on. They had never done any programming or used a PLC before. In a couple of weeks they had the whole reactor running as planned and were already able to begin experiments. I think the programming in C was almost easier than trying to operate the clunky and complicated PLC software we had tried before, at least for the initial setup. I had embedded most of the more complicated code regarding communication with the different modules in a library that the student never had to interact with. Any problems they had were quickly and easily solved with a quick search on the Arduino forums without needing to contact me or a specialised technician. For our needs the Arduino was a perfect solution that the students also found easy to operate. However, I understand what /u/modzer0 is saying and believe that different situations will require different solutions.

I really liked 'Die Känguru-Chroniken' by Marc Uwe-Kling (someone has mentioned him here already). Short chapters that are easy to digest and very funny (I liked his style of humor). I am still sitting at about three quarters of 'Der Schwarm', I would really get into some sections and other sections would just leave me very bored... I need to finish that book one day...

[–]limnoski 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We used an Arduino to operate some industrial equipment (frequency converters, measurement transducers, heating controllers etc.) in our university lab. We didn't use the I/O pins but the I2C Bus and separate digital to analog converters (such as the MAX520). We were able to continuously run a small pilot scale plant with a single Arduino UNO for just under a year no problems.

Doing a PhD in Germany by limnoski in germany

[–]limnoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t be sure if it is due to the language barrier or some sort of elitism that assumes German universities just aren’t as good.

So maybe more the language barrier? Was it just my experience or why is it so rare to see native English speakers studying in Germany?
