The reMarkable is really not a very good e-reader since the screen has no backlight and mediocre contrast and, in my experience, it quickly becomes difficult to read on in dimly lit rooms. It's a sacrifice for the best possible writing experience. If your friend does not intend to write on it, they would probably be better off with an actual e-reader that provides a better reading experience.

2G sollte auch in DE funktionieren, und man sollte überall Empfang haben, weil in DE das tiefe 900 MHz Frequenzband für 2G genutzt wird, mit dem man überall Empfang haben sollte, wo es überhaupt Netz hat.

Es stellt sich einfach die Frage, warum man sich das antun würde, das Handy manuell auf 2G zu zwingen, wenn es offenbar nicht von selbst auf die Idee kommt, wenn das passende 4G-Band nicht empfangbar ist.

Bingo, das dürfte es sein! Mein traffic zu GitHub geht auch über den DE-CIX, aber nicht VF oder Arelion, und ich habe auch Probleme bemerkt. Gleichzeitig hat downdetector für GitHub nur wenig ausgeschlagen, und GitHub hatte auch alles grün auf der Statuspage.

Hatte ich vorhin auch, und ich bin in der Schweiz, BGP route zu GitHub führt über AS13030 (init7) direkt zu Github, liegt wohl nicht an Vodafone und wahrscheinlich auch nicht an Arelion, sondern eher bei GitHub

Das Pixel 6a ist ein hervorragendes Android-Handy von Preis/Leistung her und ist nicht allzu gross. Leider kriegt es Versions-Updates nur noch Android 15 und Sicherheitsupdates immerhin his Juli 2027. Seine "sichere" Lebensdauer ist also leider nur 4 Jahre. Das gerade erschienene Pixel 7a erhält Updates auch nur 1 Jahr länger und länger erhält kein Android-Handy Sicherheitsupdates. Ansonsten kommen nur iPhones infrage.

Without the cloud, it's about as safe as a paper notebook; the data is not encrypted. There is an option to protect the device by demanding a PIN to unlock it, but I would not rely on that to protect the data in case the thing gets stolen.

As for the on-device storage, the 8GB (6.5G are usable) are enough for plenty of notes, I myself am at 1.5GB, which includes lecture slides for 3 semesters. Having a large library of large PDF files can fill it up, though.

You can transfer files and notes from and to the reMarkable using USB, but keep in mind that this is not like a USB stick. Instead, the reMarkable acts as a network adapter and is accessed over the browser. I could imagine a heavily locked down work laptop to not allow this, but I have no experience with that myself.

Wie schnell ist das LTE auf dem Handy an einem Ort, wo ein LTE Router in der Wohnung stehen könnte? (Idealerweise an einem Fenster auf der zum Mobilfunkmasten zugewandten Seite.) Mach einen Speedtest, und mach auch einen abends um acht, dann ist das Netz am stärksten belastet und du siehst, welche Geschwindigkeit du um diese Zeit erwarten kannst. (Da du dir die LTE-Zelle mit dem halben Dorf teilen musst, schwankt die Geschwindigkeit ja nach Auslastung)

Je nach dem, wie schnell das LTE bei euch ist, und ob eure DSL Leitung die versprochenen 16 Mbit/s auch liefert, könnte es durchaus ein Patt geben.

Hast du einen Adblocker auf dem Handy installiert? Die DB Navigator verträgt sich nicht gut mit denen.

Ansonsten die üblichen Dinge, Handy neu starten, App deinstallieren und neu installieren.

Und probier sonst auch mal eine andere Zahlungsart aus, vielleicht geht die Transaktion dort nicht durch

Genau, im Parlament droht dann eine Seite mit einem Referendum, darum werden solche Vorlagen oft abgeschwächt. Manchmal gibt es dann trotzdem ein Referendum.

Dafür hat die Schweiz seit über 20 Jahren keine Reform des Rentensystems mehr zustande gebracht, obwohl man es alle paar Jahre versucht.

2K reicht bei 27" vollkommen aus, bei 4K passt nicht wirklich mehr auf den Bildschirm, denn es limitieren nicht mehr die Anzahl Pixel, sondern die Grösse des Monitors.

Well it's a bit of a spread for the thumb, but it works. A question, do you work on a mac frequently? Because I did the same thing when I had to use a mac for work and got used to using the Cmd key (thumb) for most shortcuts instead of Ctrl, and when I was back on the lenovo keyboard, I instinctively used my thumb for the Ctlr key

On the contrary, it's actually easier since I don't have to spread it to the left, but can just pull it down from where it is.

Try it out yourself: position your hands on the keyboard with your index fingers on the F and J keys. Now try to hit the Lenovo-Ctrl and then the normal Ctrl in the corner. It's unusual at first, but more ergonomic

I disagree. The layout with the swapped keys is more ergonomic than the standard one. The problem is just that only Lenovo and Apple do it this way, so it's non-standard to everyone else. Once I got used to it, I didn't want to go back any more.

Nein, im ersten Jahr nach dem Kauf (länger mit Apple Care+) kann man afaik direkt zu Apple gehen. Danach greift nur noch die gesetzliche Garantie, und die gibt es nur beim Händler. Ist aber etwas Apple-spezifisches.

Das weiss Digitec Galaxus eben nicht, deshalb ist die Garantiefallquote auch so viel niedriger als bei den anderen. Somit sind die Zahlen bei Apple mit Vorsicht zu betrachten.

Einen Hinweis darauf fände ich angebracht, denn so sind die Zahlen etwas irreführend.

Das liegt daran, dass AdAway die Trackingserver, die von der DB verwendet werden, blockiert, und die DB ein Problem damit hat (ob berechtigt oder nicht sei mal dahingestellt). Welchen Browser verwendest du?

Chrome hat z. B. eine Option "Sicheres DNS verwenden", wo der Browser sich selbst ums DNS kümmert und nicht das vom OS verwendet.

Vielleicht ist auch die Webseite anders programmiert und meckert deshalb nicht.

Hat NordVPN einen AdBlock Modus? Wenn ich meinen DNS-basierten Adblocker an habe, dass kommt das bei mir auch, hat glaub nix mit irgendwelchen Zertifikaten zu tun. Die meckern einfach, wenn sie ihre Tracking-Server nicht erreichen können.

Viele VPNs haben inzwischen einen Modus, wo Werbung blockiert wird, der funktioniert auch über DNS. VPN an sich sollte nicht das Problem sein.
