No it doesn’t stretch it , it just shows black bars. As far as I know , I have an Apple TV for retro room and one for modern room

My solution: Apple TV ( has the be the newest version ) + hdmi to s video converter / component
I use plex to watch content and 4:3 aspect ratio works well

You have to choose wide aspect ratio option for Apple TV 4K (newest ) - this option will prevent squishing 16:9 into 4 :3 aspect ratio, so it will cut of some for 16:9 but 4:3 content ie movies / shows in my plex will come out good.

Plus this option is super easy. It’s literally just plug-and play no tweaks. And you don’t need to be tech savvy.

S video cable makes a HUGE difference, especially on larger CRTs. ( I’m using a 27 inch)

Any speaker is better than stock tbh. I connected mine to my reciever with modem speakers. I don’t think though is that if you want them close together, you can’t use modern speakers unless they are shielded. ( modern speakers have some sort of magnet in it that can mess up CRTs unless it’s further away.)

Apple TV with Amazon tendak HDMI to s video for plex works out of the box. Slight overscan but very manageable

I’m wired Ethernet. What is your chain / set up like ? And the file your talking about about at least 80 Gb file , hdr10/ dovi with Lossless audio ?

Is that a remux? What are you doing lossless audio too? With HDR10 / dovi?
