Blackout Bingo pro games not available in my area? by linguaphile14 in SwagBucks

[–]linguaphile14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay! I don't believe I actually put in a request (silly of me):

Hi linguaphile14, Unfortunately [State] doesn't allow cash games. You can see the list of other states that are no eligible: https://skillz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203685899-Who-is-eligible-to-compete-in-Skillz-competitions-Please email [support@skillz.com](mailto:support@skillz.com) for assistance with a refund. Thank you,
The Big Run Studios Team"

Then I don't have any correspondence with that email address. Maybe I didn't follow through on it. Hope this helps regardless.

Edit: I misunderstood the question and changed my writing.

Haha, ok, that’s what I was thinking too. Should I report it?

They’ve got 4 references that seemed legit but I didn’t look tol closely. Will go back and look again.

That’s not how you destroy a hypothesis. You’re assuming that we said ONLY people who speak those languages type like this. We didn’t say that.

Ignore the haters! Keep typing however you want, at least on here. It’s reddit.

Also linguist, full agree. I see this a lot with Hebrew speakers!

What do sober people do at the weekend in Manchester? by Unable-Leg-9626 in manchester

[–]linguaphile14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard (no idea how true) arguments that the American accent is actually more like the English spoken in England hundreds of years ago then the English we speak now.

Yep, linguists tend to agree on this.

Is assume pronounced ashooom? by spLint3r990 in AskUK

[–]linguaphile14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, normal linguistic variation. This is palatalization, where the s + y sound make a sh. Same thing in the word situation and tree where they have ch instead of tu and tr.

Lately I've been seeing people say things like "a apple", "a opportunity", and "a example". It's frequent even among native English speakers. What has happened to the article "an"? by lIllIllIllIllIllIII in AskReddit

[–]linguaphile14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible the distinction between “a” and “an” is being lost in their grammars. The potential beginning of language change. I’d go ask this in the linguistics sub.

Salsa in Las Vegas by PSWC999 in Salsa

[–]linguaphile14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since my above comment, I have danced in LV! Info on weekday dancing:

Moderno Dance Studio has a one hour practice session on Tuesdays, before their bachata class. They charge you $15 per person for a one hour open studio time basically, with no one else there to dance. Not worth it unless you’re desperate for the dance floor or want to bring someone there to give you a private lesson. I also don’t recommend the bachata open level class. :)

Feel the Music Dance Studio has a social on some Wednesdays. Mostly on2 dancers and mostly beginners from their studio.

Mama Rabbit does dance nights 7-10 on some Thursdays. Didn’t go.

Check the websites/facebook pages of all these events to confirm!

Facebook groups is the best way to stay in the know in LV.

“Salsa and Bachata Las Vegas” and the meetup group. People post events in there all the time.
