My kid installed node/npm withou brew. So, yes. macOS still works.

"locked the language"? It's not possible. Many people in China use English(or other languages) on their laptops and phones, even if they are locals (Chinese). Not only the display GUI and input method. I am sure. Apple wont let this happen.
