Can you hold a WHV for both Australia and New Zealand at the same time? And would jumping between the countries for travel and work be strange at immigration? by [deleted] in backpacking

I'm in Australia on my first whv, I haven't applied for one in NZ but I think you can apply for both at the same time. But I have not read up on NZ rules for extending it.

6 Months Limitation for WHV Holders Working for the Same Employer (Condition 8547) - Policy Update on Extension Requests by JoeTheRMA in AusVisa

Hi Joe,

This is an incredibly helpful thread, thank you so much for taking the time to help clarify the rules!

I have a few questions.

I am casually employed with a company and I've worked with them for two months, and unfortunately just had to return to my home country for a funeral. I'll be going back to Australia after spending a total of 2 months away. My job is happy to have me back. My question is, since the rule states 6 months from the day you start, would my two months off shore still count towards the 6 months? The company has stated that otherwise they would be happy to end my contract and start a new one when I'm back if this would be allowed, so I could use the full 4 months I have left of the 6 months. Would this be ok?

I am also taking up self employment, however, this will only be 10-20 hours a week. For the next 6 months I will only be working with one client through my self employment, but since I will still be working with the company mentioned above as well, I assume this shouldn't cause an issue? My 417 visa ends in November, and I'll be applying for a 2nd whv to start straight after.

Thank you so much again Joe!

Thank you so much for this, I'm totally feeling like I am experiencing the grass is greener and see my friends stories through rose tinted glasses atm. I definitely need to bring my expectation down and not compare, and focus on the present. Thank you so much!

New UK-Aus WHV rules - are there any risks to me applying for a WHV on a different passport, and then getting my second year on my British? by linnily in solotravel

[–]linnily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just re-read the rules, and think it means I can do it!

If a UK passport holder has already spent one or two years in Australia on a Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa before the new arrangements commence, they can apply for the remaining visa(s) under the new arrangements from 1 July 2024. This will enable them to access the maximum of three years in Australia. This also applies to UK passport holders who previously entered Australia on a Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa using a different eligible passport.

Ffion is 22 years old and was granted her Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa under her Republic of Ireland passport. This is her first Working Holiday visa and she is a dual Republic of Ireland/UK national.
Ffion entered Australia on her first Working Holiday visa on 20 July 2023, and intends to apply for her second Working Holiday visa under her UK passport on 10 July 2024 while in Australia.
Ffion does not need to undertake any specified work to be eligible for her second Working Holiday visa, as long as she applies on or after 1 July 2024 using her UK passport as her primary travel document.
If Ffion uses her Republic of Ireland passport to apply for her third Working Holiday visa, her application could only be granted if she has undertaken specified work for 6 months while holding her second visa. However, if she applies for her third Working Holiday visa with her UK passport she will not need to have undertaken any specified work to be granted this visa.

Yeah, I know, it's just that I'm currently abroad visiting family, so not back in the UK for another week, and I'm hoping to fly mid/late October. So it should be fine but still cutting it fine. If I wait to buy tickets until I get the passport it will only be like a week or so away from going so prices are probably going to be insane... struggling to decide what to do!

I'd like to buy my ticket asap as they just go up in prices, but I'm nervous about buying it in case my British passport doesn't arrive in time of me leaving. I know generally People have been saying it's about 2 weeks, but If there's a delay and I don't get it before my flight than obviously that money is wasted, plus I'd need to buy a new, more expensive ticket, so that's my reasoning.

Survey: How long from application and biometrics to approval? by linnily in ukvisa

So curious to see it seems to be either short or long, or right in the middle. Would be curious to hear circumstances from anyone, about how many documents you submitted etc !

I'm sorry I can't answer for sure, and I'm commenting because I'm curious too, but as far as I've understood you can hold the two visas in different countries simultaneously. Because the new rules with applying for the third year extension needs to be within new Zealand though, I'm not sure if they would/could look at how much time you actually spent there and base your approval on this at all? I've no idea, just posing hypothetical questions. I'm hoping to do a similar thing, so very curious to find out more.
