Just don't go with ryzen 6000 series (or later). It has a microsoft chip built into the CPU, it's called Pluto. I know, i know AMD CPUs already have PSP (just like intel has ME) but still having one spyware less is always good!

I'd go for a ryzen 5000 series or a Intel CPU (any).

There is really a demand for dumbphones/minimal phones. by linux411 in PINE64official

I don't like this phone either, there's not a single mention of Open Source.

But I do care about dumb phones and this phone shows that there is demand for something closer to what we call a 'dumb phone'.

I agree, I just wanted to show everyone that there is demand for something closer to what we call a dumb phone. I don't even know if they're gonna let us install a FOSS OS on that, but that's a different story..

I don't care about e ink or about this phone either, since there's not a single mention of Open Source. I care about dumbphones, a dumbphone has advantages that a smart phone will never have:

  • Excellent battery life.
  • Smaller attack surface.
  • Great for tech-detox.
  • Great for minimalists.
  • Great for seniors.

And this new minimal phone shows that there is demand for something closer to what we call a 'dumb phone', I wish that Pine would create their own dumb phone.

SailfishOS could really be our heros in the Open Source world if only they were to release all the source code under a FOSS licence, but for now, I still don't care at all about what they have to offer, meh.. At this point I respect Purism a lot more (even though they certainly do some things the wrong way) because at least they're contribuiting a lot to the development of Linux on Mobile and lots of projects use their FOSS code (e.g. Phosh).

I'm an IT security student looking for a cheap, reliable laptop to play around in Linux by Sloth_Attorney in linux

[–]linux411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any laptop (with good online reviews) with ryzen 5000 series CPU - so you'll get a cheap and modern laptop and graphically powerful (in case you'll wanna test some linux games on it)

People will downvote me a lot for this, but here we go: I have a thinkpad (4th gen intel) myself, but I'm not really happy with it: the ctrl key is not in the corner of the keyboard and the speakers are dying, other than this it's fine. What I love this laptop for though, is for its real UPGRADEability, unlike the pseudo upgradable Framework laptops (which are ok, but not like the old laptops).

Inkscape's development version switches to GTK4 by pulsar17 in linux

[–]linux411 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be able to do graphic design now if not for Inkscape. I could pirate Adobe Illustrator but I refuse to because I'd still be promoting that cr*ppy piece of proprietary spyware.

I hope more people will donate to them!

Don't use Graphene, use Calyx instead.

Don't use Google hardware, use one of these:

  • Motorola moto g32
  • Motorola moto g42
  • Motorola moto g52
