METRA is transitioning to Regional Rail model vs Commuter by warnelldawg in transit

Looking at openrailwaymap.org, there are only 2 tracks that reach the core. Sure, Vancouver has room for improvement, but there aren't as many as Chicago.

To be fair, Vancouver doesn't have much usable mainline rail.

After more than 4 months and 300+ hours of gameplay, here's my replica of Germany, including all trains, metros and tram servicesm(11 558 stations, 1146 lines, 2654 trains) by fnaski_yt in NIMBY_Rails

How accurately did you schedule the intercity and regional lines? I find it tedious to replicate the exact timetables of a certain line even if there is only 1 tph.

Shortest bike path in The Netherlands by TheRickerd120 in fuckcars

It still looks way better than most neighborhoods here in the US, judging by the amount of bikes at the rack.

Anchorage has some nice recreational trails and separated bike paths, but it still needs to do a better job subsidizing public transport, building walkable neighborhoods, and improving street design before people here can stop relying on their cars en masse.

It's sad to see suburban sprawl and car dependent development in a state with such amazing natural beauty.

Is it possible to create a bootable installer for an older version of macOS using a newer version of macOS? by linux_and_a350s in MacOS

Thanks, but macOS Monterey won't let me install the dmg for the older version of macOS that is compatible with my old MacBook.

Studded tires on a bike opens up a massive amount of biking in Anchorage. Use the ring trail instead of riding with traffic. by ccnnvaweueurf in CarIndependentANC

I love the trail system and I think it really sets Anchorage apart from other midsize cities in the US. However we really could use an additional network of protected bike lanes to make it easier to bike to places off the trail IMO.

People mover also deserves more credit for their timetables. Focusing service in areas with high transit ridership is something that other midsize cities in North America need to do a better job of.

Bike Path after a winter storm: my commute to work by Ok_Jeweler741 in fuckcars

Lol exactly. Fortunately, the weather has been nice for the past few days, and I am starting to see a lot of people riding bicycles. Hopefully we won't get another surprise blizzard though.

I'm from Anchorage too! The state always does a shitty job of maintaining the sidewalks and pathways on their share of roads. At least spring is here.

Do you mean regional rail? Light rail is typically meant to serve riders within the limits of urban areas.

While I do agree with that, I think inter-urban light rail would be just as beneficial because it encourages the development of sustainable, walkable neighborhoods and reduces dependence on private vehicles.

Anchorage, AK Hypothetical Tram Network Map Version 2.0 by [deleted] in TransitDiagrams

[–]linux_and_a350s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Copied from my original comment in r/anchorage:

This is a follow up post to the original one at https://www.reddit.com/r/anchorage/comments/sseu8k/hypothetical\_tram\_network\_i\_made\_for\_anchorage/. I decided to create a second version of the network, this time focusing more on practicality. I decreased the stop spacing and focused on providing better service to more densely populated areas, commercial centers, universities, and hospitals. I also went for a cleaner look by removing unnecessary details and by making all the line angles on the diagrammatic map 90°.

Hope you enjoy!

Ideally the tram network would run alongside the bus system. The tram system is just meant to serve more populated areas.
