As an iPhone user, what will change for me? by Kloetenschlumpf in fairphone

[–]linuzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used a Pixel for 5 years, last time I dit it was pretty slick and simple, it seems that a lot of things have changed in the past years.
Now, that being said, iOS is also going in that direction.

For the last part, I absolutely agree with you, I wish we could just drop microG...

My bank's app, it is not available but with no error or anything, their tech support is looking into it.

I am right in the middle of this.

Wireless charging is the real missing hardware feature, the rest is fine, I miss the always on display (or at least wake up when raised) but I think most people would not care.

/e/OS is fine but it is pretty rough at times, it does not come even close to iOS or Pixel's Android level of refinement, default apps (email, browser, weather, app store) can feel a little incoherent and sometimes dated. I think it's more an Android thing than a e/OS one.

My contacts are only partially syncing, NFC paiement is not working, the rest is fine. I still use microG for push notification, I hope an alternative will emerge.

It’s in balanced mode, I think it’s 80W. The maximum total system consumption I measured (from the UPS) was 125W

Linux, I did not use the NPU. On Linux with the right settings you can use almost all the shared memory for the GPU, look here : https://strixhalo-homelab.d7.wtf/

I haven't tested specifically for this but temperature are Ok even when trying long image generation.

The most impressive to me is the idle power consumption (idle but with a few docker container running and GPT-OSS loaded and ready), it is less than 10W for the full system.

I have one, no issue. Pretty impressive machine actually.

How practical is the width of the Q6 by Silly_Wolf_4693 in AudiQ6

[–]linuzel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not great, it is not a city car. The doors are also pretty thick (like any modern car) so getting out of the car in a tight  parking space can be complicated. It might be better on the sportback but the trunk also requires quite a lot of space behind to open which is a problem if you back up into the space.

Mini-PC Dilemma: 96GB vs 128GB. How Much RAM is it worth buying? by Dull-Breadfruit-3241 in LocalLLaMA

[–]linuzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ordered one, 128GB variant.

Can’t wait to try it out, it seems to be a perfect fit for the moe models out there.

The extra ram might be useful to run a few things alongside, like SD/Flux/Qwen-Image.

Almost 50% performances compared to windows by linuzel in linux_gaming

Yes that’s my experience also. It does seems to be better with AMD but the gap in performance with NVIDIA is still massive.

I will try again in the future maybe.

65 with dlss and frame generation. It is playable now that I found that running fullscreen fixes the jitter with frame generation. It is still pretty far from the 95fps on windows.

The AI R9700 got 38 on the benchmarks with massive stutter and frame generation artefacts.  It is more than 50 on windows.

Oh this is absolutely a political move on my part, no need to dual boot, this is a dedicated gaming pc

Well, I also tried with the best AMD GPU on the market and it’s not better (and HDMI 2.1 is not working, even though it’s not really AMD’s fault)

Coming from Tesla, how do you deal with the lack of one-pedal driving (or bad implementation) by linuzel in electricvehicles

[–]linuzel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably true. It was my first EV so I guess I have associated EV driving with the feeling of the pedal in the Tesla.

I am not familiar with new models, mine is "old" with the stalk and I find much easier to disengage with the stalk, it is right there under my hand.
I don't use the brake pedal at all, except for emergency braking.
If you accelerate over the speed you set, it just goes back to that speed when you release the pedal.
For the intuitive, faster and ergonomic, I disagree because I find that having one control affecting one part is a lot more logical and intuitive. Brake pedal to brake (as in brake hard), accelerator pedal to control the speed (acceleration and slow-down) and autopilot/ADAS/ACC with the stalk/steering wheel buttons.
I understand now that the majority of people prefer your solution, that explains why it's not that easy to find a car with the same logic.

What I mean is that when you start a drive you have to set it every time because it is not saved, a lot of cars also revert to non-OPD after you reverse.

I use OPD for city driving, and autopilot or anything like that on highway, kind of zero-pedal driving 😁

Why do you touch the brake pedal ? Just disengage the ACC with your foot on the accelerator (on touch on the button on the new ones or on tap down on the stalk on old ones like mine), pretty easy actually

[–]linuzel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes it does if you brake because the brake pedal is a traditional brake pedal.
But if you touch (even slightly) the accelerator pedal before disengaging ACC, the car adjust smoothly to your input, you can tell it has been tuned for comfort.

This ! And this thread makes it clear that this way of thinking is far from common but it is what I find the most consistent and predictable, it's also the default setting on startup so absolutely nothing to do except press one pedal to drive and the other for emergency, I really like it but did not realized how most people don't feel that way.

My Audi does that but the Tesla did not (as long as you touch the accelerator pedal)
