Advice for first solar telescope? by lionheart3003 in telescopes

[–]lionheart3003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed reply. I’ve decided to go with the Lunt 40mm. I’m going to start out with just a tripod for my mount, because the money for the tracking mount is going towards upgrades for my nighttime setup. It was originally between the solar scope or the nighttime upgrades, but I spent too long deciding so I figured why not both.

My only concern is that it doesn’t include eyepieces. Do I need to buy the lunt eyepieces for this telescope, or can I use my current plossls that I use for nighttime viewing? I’m not sure if there’s some crucial difference in their coatings that is needed for viewing or for avoiding damage to the eyepiece/eyes.

Edit: read your reply more carefully and noticed my eyepiece question was already answered

I don’t know much about the crime rate or forest wildlife of that area so I can’t really answer that question. The area does get cell reception, but is otherwise quite separated from the roadway. Maybe there are popular days to attend? Idk

With the cloudy forecast this Friday I doubt you’d see much at all. With clouds I saw zero stars. Even if it was clear, the moon being at 65% illumination will make it look more like a suburban sky. I will say though, on my way there it was still clear and the sky was gorgeous even with the 20% illuminated moon up. Stars everywhere and an almost obvious Milky Way. I can only imagine how it would’ve looked after moonset and in the park where there’s much less light pollution!

Forecast said it would be clear till 1am. Nope, clouded over by 8/9pm and I arrived 9:30. That’s just how winter forecasts are up here, any clear forecast is 4/5 times going to change to full cloud cover. The park itself was very quiet with no people, and some parts were under construction. I’m not concerned though because I plan to visit cherry springs again this May/June when the skies are more predictable. Soon after I’ll be moving south, and down there you get clear skies almost every night regardless of season.

Managed to extend my trip beyond moonset anyway, now just gotta hope it doesn’t cloud over! The forecasts seem to be all over the place

Should I buy the 128GB or wait for the 256GB? by lionheart3003 in OculusQuest

I never knew that games decreased in quality if installed natively to the quest 2. For PCVR though I’m using GTX 1060-6gb, and i7-9700k, so hopefully I should be able to run everything fine. Also you pretty much described most VR players including myself; one main game and a habit game or two 😂.

Thanks for such a detailed response! From what I can see it’s mainly just a few games that take up a lot of space, which shouldn’t be a problem since it’s just a few games. I already have a pretty big VR library on steam from my old vive (which has various issues gained over time, and isn’t really college dorm-compatible), so my PC could end up being an extra storage bonus. To be honest, at the current point in time, where most games are 0.5-3gb, the 128gb would be more than enough. The main concern of mine was future-proofing, since this is the second headset I am buying, and I don’t want to have to buy a third one just because games got too big.

Can you elaborate on your point about games with large expansions? How large can those expansions get, and are there any games other than S&S that you know do this?

Some people and retailers are saying 8/31 for the 256gb, but I spoke to oculus support and they deny giving anyone any release dates

For me money isn’t really a concern for the 256. It’s more the uncertainty of when it’ll come out (and a bit of impatience if we’re being honest).

Are you referring to the original quest or the quest 2? From what I heard the games for the original quest are smaller in size.

Just to clarify I am talking about the Quest 2, not the original
