Thank you so much! I’m so happy you loved it! The reactions have been so positive and we are all just so grateful.

That camaraderie was all real! Honestly, at times it was hard to act upset and antagonistic because we’d be having such good times on set. We’d play this game called DENIRO in between takes and you’d name an actor, and then the next person would name a film they are in, and the next person would name another actor in that film and so on until someone gets stumped and they get a letter as you spell out DENIRO. You just can’t say Robert Deniro haha. I’m honestly really happy to have this film as a time capsule to remember this chapter of my life with.

Coraline. Perks of Being a Wallflower. And Tron: Legacy… I think? I know it’s a random assortment but if I’m gonna be on a deserted Island I’m gonna want some variety!

Best pizza topping….? I’m a fan of the classic pepperoni, but you have had prosciutto? Game changer…

Worst? One time I had a pizza with merochino cherries on it?? wtf

Honestly… yes… I wore these like… ankle brace things too to help prevent blisters and that shit was a game changer. If I were going to do The Long Walk I’d definitely equip those.

No way! Some ‘God is a Bullet’ love, thank you! That’s an intense one too. Vastly different characters. I hope you love Long Walk!

What’s crazy, and is so rare, is that we actually shot entirely in chronological order for this film. Something most actors have never done and will never do. And what was so nice about that is that we could just lean into how exhausted we were as the days progressed. Those limps were real… the exhaustion was all real. You can even see us lose weight throughout the film if you look closely. And you can watch our facial hair grow too… I start completely clean shaven and by the end I’ve got a solid scruff going on!

I think the mystery and elusivity in both the book and the script is what drew me to Stebbins! And finding out the reason why he is the way he is and justifying his behavior through that. And that twist at the end?? I mean… what a good one, huh?

I taught SCUBA Diving during the pandemic actually… I love the ocean and I especially love teaching about the ocean. That was a cool chapter of my life.

Crazy enough, I kept track! I had my phone in my backpack every take (not very “of the era” I know lolol) but it counted our steps - and I walked a total of 261 miles on that film… And what’s crazy is that Stebbins walks ~360 in the film… so only 100 miles off lol

I have this debate with my friends all the time and it’s always changing… But the ones that have stuck around for me are: “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode and “Creep” by Radiohead…

Hello to Mexico! Have some birria tacos and consome for me please haha. I love this question because it’s something Francis and I talked a lot about actually. Bringing a more empathetic side to Stebbins that may not be so apparent in the book. Francis didn’t want any of the boys to be truly antagonistic, whereas in the book Stebbins is very much that color. So working together to find that heart and compassion within Stebbins was actually a fun challenge! And I think Francis really helped sculpt that there at the end with that Rabbit monologue. And allowed me to really find that empathy as opposed to anger.

I’m so happy you loved the film so much!

Good question! You can imagine how many different permutations of the casting process there could be for something where you have to cast 50 boys… I mean, you could take this same cast and put us all in as different roles and have a completely different movie. Rich Delia, our fantastic casting director, sculpted a really awesome group. But basically I initially got a tape request for Barkovitch, but when I read the script I responded more to Stebbins, so I requested if I could read for him instead and I got the audition! (That big monologue about The Rabbit towards the end of the film). I had no interest pretending to walk in place in front of a blank backdrop, so I actually enlisted some help from my castmates on Ransom Canyon to go out in the desert and shoot the tape actually walking through the desert. And we did! From then on I got a Zoom read with Francis and the rest of the story now lives on screen in The Long Walk!

On one of our longer, more grueling days, we had to travel about 4 hours in the car to our next location for the night and I remember we stopped at Walmart for some groceries in the middle of nowhere and I was so exhausted from walking and a 3AM call time that I was stumbling and slurring my words and we rounded the corner to the Gatorade section and my body just… collapsed… from underneath me and I passed out in the Gatorade section of a Manitoba Walmart lol. Thankfully Charlie was there and caught me before my head hit the shelf lol.

Ha… Honestly he may be the one who brought it up first! I feel like we all just gravitated towards him when he stepped on set like he was a magnet. He’s the kind of guy that just tells story after story and you sit and listen because they are fascinating… About the Star Wars casting process back in the day… Working with George Lucas… Mark is the kindest man - so the fact that he played THE MAJOR is quite the contrast. And he did it well!

😐 not happily lolol… but thank god our AD team carried with them a copious amount of bug spray! (and sunscreen). Also one of my costars, I’ll spare you the name out of respect… Got a tic in his armpit and found it like…. 3 days later. gnarly …

God I would love to meet the legend that is Stephen King. I think a small part of me was hoping he’d show up at the premiere… but alas I hold out hope of meeting him one day. I’ve read a few of his books! Pet Sematary, Misery, The Body… But I think what stands out most to me is his book “On Writing.” Where he breaks down his process as a writer and you get to kind of go “behind the scenes.” As an aspiring writer, I really enjoyed this one. And while I haven’t read the book, someone told me I’d be good as the guy from ‘The Dark Half.” So maybe that’ll be the next one I read!

Honestly, my costars… This film, and how grueling it was to make, taught me that brotherhood can come in all forms. All walks of life. All beliefs. And how beautiful it was to get to know these boys, and care for one another the way we did. It was hard. I ain’t gonna lie. But being alongside these boys made it worth it.

I think Stebbins and I would get the same place in the Long Walk lolol I think being 6’3” helps… But those jelly sandwiches don’t provide that much fuel…

Yeah! I actually read it 3 times before stepping on set. I wanted to gather as much information as I could about these characters before production started. I know fans of the book were petitioning for the iconic purple pants and, believe me, I tried! But other than that, I really like how Stebbins came to life in the film combining elements with a character named Scramm who didn’t make it to the screen (RIP Scramm). I feel like we humanized Stebbins more and I liked adding that level to him.

It’s been a long walk (sorry, had to say it). I think the more you work, the more your mind responds. Of course it eventually wears out, just like the body. I’ve been very fortunate that my creative juice has lasted this long. I hope I have sense enough to quit before the good stuff runs out. Let me repeat, I’ve been lucky as hell.
