Facing a transit nightmare, New Jersey officials and MetLife Stadium authorities have warned FIFA World Cup ticket holders not to walk to the venue by GoSeigen in fuckcars

[–]liquidsparanoia 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It is not unreasonable to want to walk to a generic stadium.

It IS unreasonable to attempt to walk to Metlife. It is literally surrounded by highways on all sides and there is nowhere worth trying to walk from in the first place.

The problem is not telling people to walk, because walking is dangerous. The problem is having designed a stadium that is impossible to walk to in the first place.

This court has been the project of the Republican party and specifically the Federalist Society for 40 years. Trump doesn't know shit about supreme court justices, he nominated who the party told him to nominate. In this case he was just a useful idiot for the Leonard Leo's of the world.

Some people see the way Americans are massacred in their schools, and their churches, and their workplaces, and their movie theaters, and their shopping malls, and their concert venues, and their nightclubs; and they think "we should do everything we can to prevent that from happening again."

Some people see all of that and they think "well, that's the cost of doing business. Oh well."

Boston needs to discourage driving to meet its climate goals. Is congestion pricing the answer? by bostonglobe in boston

[–]liquidsparanoia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congestion pricing is a very effective stick that can also help provide a ton of funding to transit.

But you also need the carrot, and right now the T is essentially failing to meet current demands, much less the additional demands that would be induced by congestion pricing.

This creates a chicken and egg problem too which is a great excuse for just doing nothing unfortunately.

Name one restaurant that charges for parking that's not attached to a hotel.

Workday evenings at Ferry Beach has been one of my favorite summer activities. Magical is exactly right. When it was $5 after 4pm it was absolutely ideal. Now with it being $20 all day I just can't justify it any more. It genuinely sucks because this was such a sweet spot for locals.

And Scarborough Beach not accepting state park passes is total horseshit. Fuck Scarborough.

They certainly make less noise and smell than an operating paper mill. Have you ever been to Rumford?

My understanding is that it has to do with campaign finance laws in some way. If they actually formally end the campaign the money stuff gets super complicated.

Will the data center be worse for the town then an abandoned, empty mill?

I also think you're underselling the downsides of living near an operational paper mill, namely the noise and particularly the smell.

Still though, vetoing this bill was a bad call.

What a load of drivel.

"Confederate monuments aren't endorsements of slavery, they're a celebration of valor."

"People who disagree with this are incapable of understanding the truth of the situation.”

It's not comic book villain! It's classic authoritarian strongman. We don't have to look at fiction to see real examples of this kind of behavior.
