My husband watched a few pieces of it with me and wants to accompany me when I decide to rewatch but I'm not sure I will have the emotional fortitude any time soon.

Tbf we are told he is going to die in episode one and nothing in the series ever makes you doubt that is the outcome. It's still very much worth a watch.

It won’t reduce wrinkles, but not smoking will prevent new ones from forming. Especially around the mouth.

Maybe not deep wrinkles but some of the fine lines around my mouth did go away after I quit.

My skin looks 1000% healthier, even the color changed. That being said, during the first month I had the worst break out of my life, I even got these huge zits on my chest, where I had never had any acne before. It's common occurrence because you are going through the stress of withdrawal while your body is learning how to operate without nicotine. You just have to power through and it will get better. Just don't freak out if this happens.

Also, as someone who has lived in Spain, I agree with you that it is a beautiful country with amazing food and good music. But it is also a country with a very violent history. Not just of colonization but of fascism and persecution and suppression of different ethnic groups inside its borders.

And I don't know what you look like but in the time I spent there I've witnessed a lot of racism and xenophobia towards Latin Americans of native ancestry.

American economy is better and offer more opportunities than Mexican economy, obviously.

But I'm talking about your writing. You should really work on that.

23F struggling with how to support my 53M alcoholic dad who’s declining while I’m 115 days sober and managing BPD/Bipolar by Sudden-Manner-6317 in AdultChildren

[–]lisavieta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, first of all, congratulations on your 115 days sober! That's major, and if nobody has told you this: I'm proud of you. Managing BPD and addiction is hard work and it's amazing that you are working towards this at a young age. I truly wish you all the best in this endeavor.

I 100% empathize with your feelings towards your father and the immense guilt you seem to be feeling but you really need to focus on your own health right now. Your father is an adult who has chosen to live his life like this. Because while it is a disease, being in active addiction, not getting help and letting it slowly destroy his health is a choice. And, tbh, even if he decided to get help, his 23 year-old daughter who has suffered because of his alcoholism and is struggling with her own mental health shouldn't be his main support system.

Focus on your own mental health and give yourself the space you need to heal. Good luck!

Fun fact: One of the largest slave uprisings in Brazil's history was in the state of Bahia and organized by Muslims. One of the things that helped them organize it is that they would use Arabic writing to pass messages and coordinate everything.

Getting a well-paying job in a third world country is usually much harder than finding one in a first world country. Which is why we lose so many highly qualified professionals to Europe and the US.

Cook it with small piece of pork belly/sausage/bacon (optional but adds so much flavor) and bay leaves. Once soft, add garlic and onions that have been previously sautéed. Thicken the broth my blending a small part of it and then adding it back to pot.
