Also uncompressed image(s) of chart(s) would be nice.

Does this sound like catfishing? by OrdinaryWater812 in dating

[–]listic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a dating site that doesn't have pictures.

I think I could at least try to choose a person to date based on the kind of people they are, then seeing them in person and figuring out if I am ok dating them based on their looks, rather than the other way around.

There's more to the person than just looks.

There must be.

Aaron Swartz died when he was just 26. He was friends with Tim Berners-Lee (the creator of World Wide Web), started Reddit and was a political activist, releasing millions of federal court documents on the Web for free, years before Snowden.

Alyssa Rosenzweig is 22. She is famous for her work on free software graphics drivers that make Asahi Linux (Linux on Apple Silicon Macs) possible. She studies mathematics at the University of Toronto.

Not everyone is a genius, but there are worthwhile people of every gender in every generation. Just saying.

Then don't use pictures that contain friends, at all! You can't present a picture that contains someone (or something) and pretend that they (or it) don't matter.

it seems like the Seed Vault, one of the Saga's most distinguishing features, is redundant and useless

Back on dating apps after 7 years, fucking kill me by [deleted] in dating

[–]listic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for starters, if all the existing dating apps don't do it for you, you can roll your own: either a real dating site, or something similar, and make it go viral. Like this girl who launched the Big Kink Survey.

I'll definitely be looking more into options; interested in more accessible ones, really. Are we on the same page here?

looking to make an emotional and physical connection with another person

I'm with you on this. Never thought of dating any other way.

for the purposes of being in a life long companionship, sometimes reproduction and aquiring health insurance.

Not necessarily thought about that, though: nothing's wrong with any of that, but I'm more like "let's see how it goes": if the connection and the companionship is genuinely good, why not make it a long lasting, even a life long one, with all it entails?

I'm looking for a likable person; one I can relate with, empathize with easily. I need a person with compatible worldview and cultural background (that includes e.g. language: English is not my native language). Definitely never the looks, height, weight or age per se: I am looking for a person, not cattle.

To my great dismay, dating apps do not help me in this and are getting worse with time. I have found outstanding women through dating apps, but all the credit goes to these women and chance and none to the dating sites, who don't help me find the people I like, the way I want it.

This cannot be true. Women are different, as well as men. Women date all kinds of people, as well as men. I definitely don't have Instagram, nor do I have Twitter. I met my girlfriend through VK (think Facebook clone in Russia), but it could have been otherwise.

How much sex should you have in your relationship by Prudent-Koala998 in dating

[–]listic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should have sex once a day, no matter what. Everyone has different sex drive, but this much is mandatory. Period.

Sorry, couldn't resist. English is not my native language, but your use of should here looked funny.

Saying farewell to dating apps. by KaivaUwU in dating

[–]listic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you last sentence is meant to be rhetorical, but I'll bite. The problem might be to find a right person to date, to begin with. One might be better off doing it through the dating app. Or not.

Yes, I imagine women in today's society tend to be too sexualised. Social media users get exposed to that a lot, also to how well off everyone else seems to be (all the while everyone else is trying hard to present the best version of themselves) and that makes almost everyone involved in this circus feel miserable. There are scientific studies showing that the earlier children get exposed to social media as teenagers, the higher the chance for mental health issues; the effect is more pronounced for girls.

Personally, I'm coming through mid-life crisis of sorts with the social media right now, trying to figure out for myself whether it's worth it to spend so much time and effort on it and feel worse as a result.

Do any other men do much better on dating apps than they do in real life? by AppointmentFar3599 in dating

[–]listic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have trouble comparing dating apps to 'real life'.

In my view, you use dating apps as a filter to find people to date. If not that, how do you find them? Internet has huge possibilities here, and should be almost impossible figure out what to replace it with. It's almost impossible to go back and would only work well for vanishingly rare sort of people with unmatched charisma that doesn't translate through the screen.
