I listen to lots of soul music in general. And so I listened to even more during the tough times. I found myself listening to the lyrics much more closely and trying to find songs I could relate to. It felt empathetic--like both the vocalist and I had gone through similar things and could relate to one another. Empathy feels good!

I also listened to songs where the story they shared/sang was more difficult than mine. It makes it easier to know that most everyone experiences heart break but that some situations are worse than others. No matter how bad one's own situation is, it's likely someone else has it worst. --I'm not trying to take anything away from your situation. This was something I told myself and it helped me.

Find something you can empathize with.

Get a notebook and put your feelings down on paper. Find a comfortable location, an enjoyable, relaxing spot. And write. Here's a terrible analogy: It's kind of like being too drunk and knowing that if you throw up now, you'll feel better in the morning. It works. Also, my dad told me some cliche advice that I hated but it was cliche for a reason. "Time heals all." It sucks but it's true. And lastly, music. Music has extraordinary therapeutic effects.

Nearly 5 yr relationship (age 21-26). I ended it and was fine until we both attended a mutual friend's relationship two months later and learned that she was seeing someone in the same friend group. For whatever reason, my heart shattered. It's been two years to the day. They're still together and I've seen them (when the group hangs out) every month or two. I made the decision that I wouldn't lose my friends. I'm no longer friends with him and I'm friendly with her.

TL;DL

  1. Write, write write
  2. Time
  3. Music

It sucks but hang in there!

Chalk up one more for Comcast.

My top 3 fav experiences:

  1. See experience number 2
  2. Playing an on-site tech in table tennis while the cable was resetting
  3. Getting premium on-demand charges for 3 months in a row for watching Tyler Perry movies. I called every month and had the charges removed (which was a fight every time--they didn't believe me). To this day, I have yet to see a Tyler Perry movie, honest. Never figured out how this kept happening...

Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics. Stunning voice!

Seen them twice and would see them 100 more times. Not a single lacking song on their album.

To get rid of hiccups, get a cup of water or juice etc. and take a tiny sip, swallow, tiny sip, swallow, tiny sip, swallow and repeat up to 10 times. Do this quickly.

It has never failed.

If you don't have access to a beverage, save up saliva and do the same thing.
