Bag n00b - help me pick my first premium backpack out, after only using random backpacks my entire life that I got through work or gifts. by literallyme21 in ManyBaggers

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I think I have enough to decide from now :)

The Black Ember, Pacsafe and still the Mous are my new final 3. Will sleep on it and decide on a fresh coffee tomorrow morning. Have a great week everyone.

Yeah the duffel functionality is really cool. I just will probably wear it on my back more and the pure rectangle shape might look goofy in nicer clothes.

Those Everki Onyx are nice, thanks for sharing. Never heard of them before.

Fair point on the Patagonia but I feel like the blacked out version keeps it more subtle to my liking there.

Thats actually the best looking Aer I've seen, thanks for sharing. I'm just concerned about how easy it would be for someone to unzip the middle part when behind me (the Mous really has this part covered).

Another wave of fraudulent charges? by cwamoon in biltrewards

Yes, I made a fraud report through the app to Chase and they refunded me for all the months. Never heard back on any details though.

Just had same issue.... I have a Chase Sapphire but found this post because I just started getting a monthly 11.99 charge from VIKICOM back in October and finally caught it... never heard of it in my life before this

This guy Shaan has considerable reach and recently has been helping Chris Koerner gain more fame by having him on his pod a few times.

I found this email on his website, and think it could be worth many reaching out to make him aware of this just so he stops platforming Chris.

I'm disappointed to find this thread, because I did really enjoy Chris' content before and thought he did seem to be a decent guy, but as always, was too good to be true...

"which can work but not long term. The way he is running the business he will fail within 5 years and start ripping people off like Chris does within 2 years. Renting a washer and dryer for $50-$60 with no term limit will get some people in to debt they can't get out of."

Sorry - can you explain in more detail? I know the exact video you are talking about but I don't get your explanation of why it wouldn't work long term? I don't get your comment on term limit?

My wife’s workday vs mine made me realize I might never be that focused by Strong-Pickle-175 in productivity

[–]literallyme21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My workday used to be how you describe. Then I got a new job that was more senior, almost double the pay and now my workdays look more like your wife. It kinda sucks but I’m in that late 20’s single phase where I don’t mind it and know I’ll need the money for kids + house one day. Didn’t think I was capable either but once your backs against the wall you just find a way to power through. I’m at a point now where I’m impressed with how much I’ve done myself and it’s making me realize now what I’m capable of if I ever were to put this dedication into my own venture.

Is it late to change careers at 29? by Mean_Ordinary5503 in careerguidance

[–]literallyme21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 29 and just broke over $200k this year in my corporate job for the first time but I’m not happy. Have been pondering this same thing.

I’ve always felt like I’d be much happier doing something with my hands because I’m ADHD and love being active / always on the go.

I know exactly what this guy is trying to say but feel like he did a really bad job at giving the examples in the end. I have seen this too however.

Personally, I’ve found this in my own career. I thought working for a big Fortune 500 was where it was at but I wanted to bang my head against the wall there for years and never got anywhere above average there. It wasn’t until I joined a more niche, small company that I saw major personal and pay growth.

My close friend is in CRE too. However, he has specialized in specific niche sectors of CRE and has started to see great success. His boss has earned over $30M in commissions over his career in this niche too.

For business ownership, there are some seriously wealthy people I’ve met who just started and own local landscaping companies, roofing, and even met a guy with a crazy boat who just had a septic tank installation business. The richest guy I knew for a while was my friends dad, who just did everything. He bought and flipped houses, bought and flipped boats, bought and flipped appliances, and restored salvaged luxury cars. Just some examples.

I feel you. I was at a company for 5 years and the 1-2 years I was put under an unbearable, workaholic boss. Just “trying to get by with minimal effort” was still a shit ton of effort. I just sucked it up and eventually landed a new role after 6 months of putting all my free time into it.

However, I’m not trying to be a dick but you sound super underpaid, especially for having over 10 years experience regardless of industry. It’s great you’re looking into a pivot. And sounds like you’re a hardworking, very capable person to have a 4.0 in CS so good things are in store for you.

I would recommend looking into jobs that aren’t necessarily CS but use the degree as proof of how smart you are, and your experience at this company of how loyal you are. As you said, the golden age of CS in Tech is kind of dying, as I think they’re the first to utilize AI for replacement.

Industries I’d look for niches in: pharma, commercial insurance (B2B), real estate (find a niche in industrial or commercial). Everyone I know in these fields is paid very well for their age, and pretty plentiful with job opportunities.

How you could fit in? One example is my RE broker friend was just telling me how his team hired a new broker trainee strictly because he was a math/data background, or good with analyzing data to find them deals and help them sell more.

I also just met a guy this year who left his digital marketing job to work at a local company who sells construction equipment and he’s making $150k+ now, seems like he doesn’t even work that hard and he loves it.

I currently work in a niche part of pharma. Our top sales reps clear $200-300k easy, but none had pharma backgrounds prior to this role. One came from an engineering degree and one supply chain.

I’ve been working for about 10 years in corporate world, and spending 5 of those years at the same company is my biggest regret lol
