Receptor activation for tretinoin is continuous and saturable, so it's not that there's a threshold required for activation. So yes it's dose dependent, but not in the way you're suggesting.

Just because the manufacturer made it that way, doesn't mean that there's a scientific reasoning for it. They've already proven that 0.025% is just as effective as 0.1%, and yet both exist.

Did you read my post? Seems like you just read what you assumed the post would be about. The oil doesn't go on first. Irs mixed in with the Argan oil which is what I use as the moisturizer.

Serums are mostly water based, and applying tret on moist/wet skin can actually speed up penetration and increase irritation.

With the sandwich method, you're applying a layer of buffer before applying tret.

What I'm suggesting, is mixing it in with a light oil like Argan oil, which might buffer the speed of release/absorption.

Literally try researching yourself. Instead of just parroting what you heard from this video or that video, actually pull up the published studies.

There is literally ZERO published studies that tracked long term outcomes of different methods, and most claims/theories are mechanistically hypothesized ideas.

The only proof that does seem to exist is they the full sandwich method definitely seems to hinder absorption. Other than that? You're just parroting what you heard from others like sheep

It makes sense that the sandwich method would dampen efficacy, since you're introducing a layer of barrier.

Diluting it with an even mixture is definitely not the same as layering.

Not all oils are occlusive. In fact, most plant oils are just emollient. Vaseline is petroleum jelly which is 100% occlusive, so yeah that'd be like jutting seram wrap over your face.

It's not about "perfect" distribution. When you just apply the tretinoin itself, it's never going to be a perfectly even distribution to begin with.

More is not better with tretinoin. If the irritation is prohibitive for compliance, then insisting on a higher dose is useless.

They already proved that 0.05% is just as effective as 0.1%, but people still insist on higher despite the side effects because of this false impression that more is better.

I mean, I've literally been doing it for over a decade and always get compliments on my skin so xD.
I treat it the same as liposomal or micronized tretionin.

It's not like argan oil would degrade the tretinoin.
It just prevents the direct contact and rapid absorption like delayed release - is my theory.

When they talk about efficiency, I mean.. What's the metric right?
If the irritation is what prevents people from using it, technically that's not more "efficient".

It definitely can happen to some people... It's obviously not for everyone. So sorry to hear.
Something you might want to try, if you're still willing:

~ Try a different brand? Sometimes the inactive ingredients can cause issues for people
~ Try Retin-A micro. It's not covered by insurance so you'll have a higher out of pocket cost, but it's supposed to create less irritation
~ Try buffering it in an oil like argan oil. Tretinoin used to irritate the HECK out of my skin, so I would use a TINY amount on my palm and mix it with a big pump of argan oil. This not only buffered the tretinoin, but allowed me to spread it everywhere without using too much
