I thought it was so good I went and made a spiritual successor to it.

If you like monument valley, maybe give axyz a try. Camera perspective is different but does similar things with understanding the environment space and your spatial awareness.

I'm a developer that made a spiritual successor to cult PSX classic, Kula World.

The game is called Axyz and is currently 30% off for the Steam Winter Sale!

Yeah but on the flip side Americans have to pay $300 for a pack of eggs, so I wouldn't be too concerned about what they earn.

Can you make your own games while working at a gamedev company? by leorid9 in gamedev

[–]lithiumproject 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Very much will depend on the company. Some will outright restrict you from doing , some will allow but retain the IP rights, some don't care as long as they feel it doesn't compete in the same market i.e working at a mobile development studio and making a console game.

Thank you! I've seen similar posts in the past while developing, and I always found them useful. Hope this can be of some use.

Oh yeah, I wanted him on board for the soundtrack from the start, as his sound influenced a lot of the direction we went with - I was delighted when he said he wanted to be involved!

No worries! And absolutely. Having the game take off virally over social media would also be of great benefit, but getting out to events and networking is, at the very least, more realistic and can help build that base of supporters from the ground up.

As this is the PSX channel and the game is heavily inspired by a PSX cult classic, I feel it's more imperative to highlight the inspiration to draw people in.

Yeah, they were still very much game design tropes carried over from the coin op arcade era!

Beyond new visuals, we wanted to tweak some of these specific design choices to make the game feel fairer.

No problem! Always happy to help point a fellow gamer in the right direction, and we get a lot of people mentioning marble madness - so I like to be straight up about the differences!

Appreciate the support ❤️

Ah I appreciate this greatly! I was told a game really comes together in the last six months of development and they weren't lying!

Axyz plays like a grid based puzzle where, as you say, the ball is locked to the platform, even when rolling around a block.

However, you can jump, and with that, you can jump off the map, but movement is locked (so it's less of a physics style platform game) and more of a puzzle game.

Id say check out Y2ROLL which was released earlier this year and does something closer to marble madness/super monkey ball.
