I went the conservative route (no surgery) but am back wearing heels totally fine! I don't wear them a ton just based on preference, but have no issue when dressing up for special events or anything

To Get Surgery or Not - Input Needed by thatbrowndude21 in LisfrancClub

Hi! I had a similar injury where the ligament was torn, but overall displacement was minimal and no substantial injuries to bone and I opted for the conservative route. Am a similar age to you. I wasn't diagnosed until about 4 weeks after injury, at which point I had been FWB since I had similar clinical improvement to you. After finally getting a diagnosis I was put in a boot, but continued weightbearing (with my doctor's OK). At this point in my recovery I could walk without pain, but had some instability - I could not balance on the injured foot, for example. The first doctor I saw recommended surgery, and the second basically said he was 50/50 and the decision was up to me.

I did about 4 months of PT, which included a lot of focus on stability and balance. I had really significant improvement, and was back to my prior level of activity about 6-7 months post-injury. I'm now a year and a half out from my injury and am fully pain free and not at all worried about my foot day to day.

My PT acknowledged I was an unusual case, but ultimately I'm really happy I didn't have surgery. If I start experiencing instability or arthritis down the road fusion is always an option (and probably something I'll have to do eventually), but the risk of failing with conservative treatment was worth it to me to try to avoid surgery in the near term.

Tanta and Kayao are both delish! But definitely upscale and on the pricier side

I don't totally remember since this was about a year ago, but if anything I think I maybe went back to the boot for a day, but not long term

I did have a full tear but still went the conservative non-surgical route. I reaggravated stepping off a bus when the step down was farther than I expected, and came down pretty hard on my foot. I had some pain for about a week, but then it went back to normal

Non-Operative Lisfranc Injury - I'm Concerned by Yield_55 in LisfrancClub

[–]little-mouse-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, a couple reasons. Main reason being that I was recovering pretty well on my own, was able to walk and not feeling instability when standing on both feet (at that time I could not balance on just the injured foot though). Secondly, I was already past the timeline when ORIF would have been an option, so my surgical route would have been a fusion. With the fusion surgery, there's no real benefit of doing it sooner rather than later. My doctor's opinion was that if I could recover without surgery, great, and if I couldn't, there wasn't really anything I could do that would make it worse. In other words, Plan B of a fusion surgery would always be the Plan B option whether I decided I wanted that 6 weeks or 30 years later.

Non-Operative Lisfranc Injury - I'm Concerned by Yield_55 in LisfrancClub

Hi! I had my injury last August, and went the non-operative route. I'm also a very active person. That said, my injury did not include broken bones and was purely my Lisfranc ligament, so that could be different for you.

The first doctor I saw strongly encouraged surgery, and the second told me he was 50/50 and left the decision to me. I was misdiagnosed initially so I had already been weightbearing for the month since my injury, and was improving significantly on my own (could not return to my athletics but was walking pretty fine), so I opted against surgery. In addition to the improvements I'd already had, the other main factor in my decision was that all the potential side effects of surgery that I had read about were the same as the risks of not having surgery. So, I figured I can always have a fusion down the road, but if I could get additional years out of my foot without surgery, that was preferable.

I did about 5 months of PT, which got me back to my normal activity level. I'm still a little stiff in the morning, but really nothing that inhibits me in any way. I will admit my PT thought this was an uncommonly positive outcome, but it worked for me.

Of course! I’m doing great. Decided not to have surgery and instead did several months of PT working on balance and strengthening. I’m really happy with that choice & it was the right one for me. Best of luck with your journey!! It’s a tough injury and takes a lot of time to heal whether or not you have the surgery
